Help That dang mute button

LOVING my moment so far. (This is my first android phone... I'm coming from a treo 700wx.) The only complaint I have is this:

When I'm talking, my hair tends to press the mute button on the home screen and the other person cannot hear me.

I've searched but can't find a way to make this stop. Any suggestions? An app, a better phone-holding technique--I'll try just about anything.

Also, for some reason I had a glitch the other day... I made a phone call, got my friend's voicemail, and then was unable to hang up the call. I ended up leaving a rather long, embarrassing voicemail message until I just went in and force stopped the dialer app, but at least my friend has a good sense of humor. Anyone else had this happen?

The phone should "black out" when you hold it next to your face. There shouldnt be a way to hit the mute button at that point. You might want to check your proximity sensor. Call someone, cover the spot before the Sprint logo. If it doesnt black out, you may need to replace your handset.

So you were unable to hang up the phone using the end call button? Thats how I end all my calls. Works just fine.

I had this happen to me a couple times early, the screen normally goes black pretty quick, but i move the phone a lot when I talk and sometimes the light sensor goes off and the screen comes back on...

if you have it happen a lot you could slide up the dial pad so the mute button isnt even on the screen. not really any great alternatives i can think of

Or, since we are looking for other fixes. She could just hit the home button while in the call to take her back to the home screen. Not sure how many other problems this might cause though. Would depend on the home screen I guess.

Okay my proximity sensor does work--I guess I'm not holding the phone quite close "enough" to my ear when I talk. Hitting home when I start a call does seem to work fine though, in case anyone is wondering.

And the call that wouldn't hang up.... I've only had that problem one time. I don't know if it was some weird combination of circumstances or what, but it's only been once. I've left voicemail messages on other people's phones with no problem.

i call CS to entertain myself telling them about the bugs. after going through the menus the first time i called the mute button was pressed so when i finally got a rep on the line he just hung up thinking no one was on the line. FAIL. the second time i called the cellphone went out of range and the call dropped. thankfully they called back. im having a replacement phone sent to me so well see if i get something better in return perhaps newer build of android.

I have the mute thing happen too... although it may not be normal (see below). My proximity sensors work and I DO think you were just holding it kinda far from your head. Go ahead, the microwave radiation from it isn't THAT bad... *twitch*

On an un-related note, but kinda related, here's some problems mine has. I'm getting a new Moment tomorrow, and these are the many problems mine has currently. I DO have a lemon, but here are some of the things I have anyway:

-Can't change screen brightness manually (yes auto is off, I'm not a ****)
-Random restarts
-Call hang (will be stuck at 'dialing' and nothing works on my phone, battery pull. Twice a day if I use my phone, if I don't use the phone at all, I'm fine.)
-Camera app is ghetto, crashes THEN saves a picture
-The infamously bad GPS, I'm just gonna add that here anyway, even though it's 'normal' for all (from what I've read)
-Phone will throw the mute on, as well as the speaker at random while I'm talking on it (yes the screen is blacked out the entire time, I've checked several times, again, not a ****)
-Default browser crashes after 5 minutes of use, any website, no images even!
-Microphone (maybe not mine, but still bad) sucks... people can't hear me unless I'm less than 8" away from the phone on speakerphone, and that's pushing it; they complain of me to repeat almost everything and say they can't hear me at that 'far' distance.
-Might have a ghetto battery... I can kill it in 2 1/2 hours with just videos and web browsing (basic, not jumping sites, yes screen brightness is very low) Same thing with music, unless I turn the screen off, then I can get 4 hours of play time (ish).
-Settings force close (as of 12/23/09) and I cannot change anything (I can still delete stuff from the phone, I can't change basic settings like individual volumes or screen brightness, as mentioned above)

There's a few (bunch) more, but I'm not going to take any more time and space to list them.

Hello all Moment Users!! ;) Just found this forum. I have the exact same problems....hitting mute, speaker, dial pad during conversations. My proximity sensors are fine. I've been to the Sprint store 3 times. There is no setting for the heat sensitivity on this thing either. My call is disrupted by one of the three problems probably 4 out of 5 phone calls. This is the most "user UN-friendly" phone I have ever had, when it comes to using the actual telephone. Oh and, with my face... I've actually opened up and started a 3-way call during a regular conversation a couple of times as well. With my face during conversation, I've even saved the current number I was talking to under a complete different contact in my contacts as another mobile number. Sprint tells me that my hair got in the way and tripped up the sensor....nope. I had the phone smashed up to my face with my hair tucked behind my ear, still opened back up. If it weren't for all the apps that I faithfully use, I would have switched back to my Blackberry within a week of getting this thing. Basically, if you want to talk on this phone, you need to get a bluetooth. I finally got one, tried it, and won't have it any other way.
