Just got my MyTouch 4G today, and I don't really like the "Skin" that Tmobile has put on the OS. Is there an easy solution to making it look like standard Froyo? I've checked the themes, and they all share the same button and menu layout, but don't have the stock froyo appearance. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wow, no. Dont root it right away, thats bad advice.

Go to Market and search Launcher Pro, or ADW launcher. Launcher pro is my favorite, looks a lot like vanilla froyo.

It only takes a couple minutes, and you wont risk bricking your phone and voiding your warrenty.

HKM is giving bad advice. Rooting is dangerous if you dont know what youre doing.
Hope this helped!

Thanks for the replies. I'll check out ADW or launcher pro and see what they look like. I don't plan on rooting a phone just yet, as I've never done so. My girlfriend has her old G1 still so I may attempt to do so on it, as neither of us use it. She currently is using my MyTouch 3G.

yeah if your not ready for root yet LauncherPro and ADW are both really good replacements for the "stock" setup. I haven't played with ADW very much, but I have the premium version of LauncherPro and love the replacements for the few Sense widgets I use on the daily.

Yeah, ive been in the android scene since the G1, and for me the disadvantages of rooting outweigh the advantages. If its just a different UI youre after, theres tons of launchers out there.

If you want the entire phone to run differently, root it. But you will not have a warranty, and if you get too cocky trying to customize everything you possibly can, you might brick the phone and it'll be completely useless.

Personally, I'd play it safe and just try different lauchers for now.

You are aware it takes 1min to flash back the PD15IMG? And restore the stock settings? Bad advice? I was telling him what he can do to get rid of that crap OS he has aka stock. Since when is rooting rocket since? He can do it by using one of 4 meths on MT4G, hell the new one just auto made all he has to do is download a file it will do everything for him. Don't talk about things you don't understand as best advice is freedom which is only obtained via uID:0 (swtich user> root).

Ive temprooted my mytouch 4g quite a lot of times.

I was saying against because the op didnt seem to know about that stuff.

you are correct I know very little about rooting. I've done a bit of reading, but honestly don't feel comfortable that I won't brick the phone. (would rather not risk it at this point, even though it may be easy). I'm going to give one of the launchers a try and see how I like it, if it doesn't resolve my issues, to rooting I'll look.

Thanks for all the advice guys, no need to argue ;)

Im fairly sure you'll be happy with Launcher Pro, it's pretty nice looking and you get to keep all your other extra Sense stuff.

Hope I've been somewhat helpful!

Rooting really is not very difficult at all, this is not the first phone I have rooted. But anyone even without much tech knowledge as long as they have simple logic can read the tutorials and root a Mytouch as well as flash a custom rom. The amount of time it would take is a hour tops for reading and getting it all setup and what not. So I agree with HKM Root it, minewas rooted within an hour of purchase Running CM7 now with 2800 quadrants.... couldn't be happier with the phone
