Netflix on Thunderbolt

So there is the release from Qualcomm that Netflix is coming...

But Kevin posted in his article that Netflix will only come pre-installed. Since the Bolt is a new Qualcomm I would really hope it will get Netflix. Can anyone at MWC ask Qualcomm about this please???

That would be a nice surprise. I can't believe I can get Netflix on my Sony Dash but not on my Smartphone.

Well it seems Droid Life thinks the Thunderbolt will be the first Netflix Smartphone available.

if the t-bolt does not get netflix i seriously might wait it out for a phone that does. a 4.3 inch media powerhouse unable to stream netflix movies and tv shows when i already have a netflix account? major fail.

I got a Tweet from miami saying it was a ways out. It could be that they are using the LG as a test bed before releasing it to the Thunderbolt. I could be wrong but it's conceivable.

The newer snapdragons have DRM embedded in the chipset. This is some requirement from Netflix. I'm not sure if the TB has this "newer" snapdragon.

Rumor has is that Honeycomb has software DRM which passes Netflix's requirements... Why do you ask is this important.. well, Gingerbread 2.3/2.4 is supposed to be the smartphone version of Honeycombs hardware support changes. (cross fingers!)

Bolt won't get it. This version of Snapdragon processors do not support the required DRM libraries at a hardware level.

Thunderbolt is a go! Reread your article. It just says the newer Snapdragon hasn't gone out to consumers, not that its not to the phone makers. The 8655 Snapdragon has DRM listed as a spec and is not used in a phone that has been launched yet.

Hope you're right. However, the MyTouch4G has used that chip for about 3 months nows. The Engadget article states no consumer available processors have that capability yet.

The TB is listed as a MSM8655 chipset. It's listed as a 1.4ghz processor, so I'm assuming HTC has it clocked down for battery performance.

Netflix requires DRM (Digital Rights Management) in order to stream.

Wow, if that is true.. hello SetCpu on Android Market.

I was asking the other poster which one the MT4g had for the past few months. He didn't say but I assume he is talking about the 8255 which probably won't get the Netflix app. My sources say even if the Thunderbolt gets the app it won't be anytime soon.

The no consumer devices part is right, just what I posted was wrong. The LG Revolution will use the 8655 chip (and not the 8255 found in the mt4g), the exact same one in the Thunderbolt.
