Too buggy to buy?

I have had my X since release day and am now on my second one. The phone is so buggy that I will never buy another Moto product.

*Randomly reboots
*Sometimes when you go to power down, it reboots instead
*Occassional no voice during phone calls. (Check out the Moto forums, one dude was in a serious car accident and tried to call 911 only to have no sound in or out during the call
*Wireless connection drops for no reason, so you have to toggle it
*3G connection drops to 1x for no reason, even when another X or Verizon iphone sitting right next to it have full 3G service

Now that you mention some of these things, I have had the issue as well, at least with the wireless dropping out and having to manually connect to it. Not a big deal to me though tbh. I have had my phone jump to 1X on me once before but I think it was really a bad area (in a wlamart) and I had nothing to compare it to so can't really blame the phone on that one.

I really think overall though, it is an excellent phone, just got it this past weekend and did some research last night on rooting and really thinking about rooting it to ApeX 1.4, just never rooted before and a lot fo the terms are kinda meaningless to me atm, I am a technical person and fix computers for a living right now so I think I should be able to pick it up quick. Sorry to jack the thread here but anyone else have a rooted X and maybe have problems or had problems after rooting it? I hear that things run much smoother after rooting the phone.

Now that you mention that, I've seen my DX do the 3G to 1X thing. My signal also seems to be jumpy. It would be at 1 bar when calling someone, then jump to 3-4 bars when I hang up. Maybe it might be that the phone is usually in my pocket and it's still searching for the signal when I'm calling??

Wow - can't say I've ever had these issues!! Makes me wonder what apps are installed.

Alright after the Verizon rep reset my phone I played with it for a bit, no issues. I have since rooted it to ApeX 1.4, then to Liberty 1.5 and BACK to ApeX 1.4, have not had a single issue at all, no random reboots, no locking up, no force closes, nothing that Zandroid stated. I am overall pretty happy I did not trade it back in, I was a little ticked at first only because it was a brand new phone, but I work with computers and definitely realize that sometimes a little bug can happen or you can get a bad part. Doesn't mean the phone itself is bad, it just means you got the bad one :D

I would definitely recommend the X over the Bolt only because 4G won't really take off for another year or so plus there aren't many extra features over the X and you are gonna spend a LOT more for the phone... not worth it. The Bionic may be worth waiting for though.

I'm beginning to wonder if the Bolt isn't going to be buggy in its own way. Otherwise why would Verizon keep delaying the release, week after week, well past when everyone knows it was supposed to launch. (I know, Verizon never announced a launch date so how could it be late...)

So even though some X's may have problems, the Bolt probably has it's own issues as well.

I decided to go for the DX instead of the thunderbolt because I love Motorola and I will not benefit from having a 4G phone right now bacause I will not have 4G until 2012. I can use this phone until my contract expires and get what is good out then. I too have an original droid that has been amazing when I rooted it and had lithium on it. I also wanted a larger screen. The DX's technology will run android just fine just the way it is.

Let us know if you start getting any random reboots...

Mine got fixed after I brought it in to Verizon, so it might have been something I did, not sure... either way, glad to see we got 2 new X users! Made a good choice for sure. Also, these phone will definitely be top of the line for a while, or at least comparable, by the time we are due for upgrades in a couple of years, the phones will have changed so much, it's no use delaying our 2 year contract even more for a phone that is a "little" better, ya know?

Hi Eurosteve, Just my own two cents here...I've never encountered a reboot when connecting to a charger since I've owned my DX. It was unrooted the first 4 months and rooted now for another month - no charging issues whatever, and I charge from an AC adapter, USB from a computer/laptop and in the car.

My particular DX has been very stable from the start - not to say it hasn't had issues (I did have some lock-up problems from a few bad apps way back in my first month of ownership), but overall its been a great experience - and I am still learning about what this phone can do!

Launcher lag is I think caused from the Blur skin Moto adds to the Android OS. I switched to ADW and I found it lags a lot less (still a bit, but not nearly as much as the stock launcher, plus I can customize it much better than stock).

Doing a one-year contract might be a good idea, especially if you want to be an early-adopter for an LTE phone upgrade. I'm on a two-year contract and I'm OK with that - I'll wait for the new network to have its bugs worked out before I jump on the bandwagon. My phone works fast enough for what I need it to do at present and I'm very happy with it.

Best of luck with your decision! :D
Sounds like my situation almost word for word, except I haven't rooted my phone yet. In about 1 1/2 months I will. I'm really happy with my Droid X.

Like many people above have said, I have had some very minor problems with my phone before, but nothing that really bothers me, and nothing that reoccurs more than a few times. I am obsessed with my phone... It's unhealthy. The Droid X is so awesome that my mom, dad, aunt and uncle just bought one recently after playing with mine a little.

This is the one device I have where I see something new I don't get jealous at all.

I have run almost every rom out there for the X that I can find.
Now, the irony here is.... the phone for me is more stable running stock than with a custom rom.

Call me crazy but I have the odd X out of the bunch... it doesn't like custom roms.
Never a crash but the only annoying thing is the lag when it unlocks or when it's first booted up.

Otherwise.... rock solid device. :D
No iPhone can compare to this device period.
Waiting to see if the Thunderbolt is a good replacement, if we ever see it.
The bar is pretty high.....

My only issue with this phone so far is it's lack of corporate friendliness.

And I'm not talking about the lack of syncing tasks.

This phone will sync fine for a few hours with my Exchange box, then the next you thing you know, nothing for hours!

I'll open up email, it'll sync, work a for a while then stop.

I refuse to have to pay for a reliable email client (TouchDown, etc...).

Just my two cents.

Well, I got tired of waiting for the TB and I decided that it's a good idea to get an X on a one year contract. So I bought an X yesterday. So far it's very zippy. I like the similarities with the Droid 1. I was able to take my micro SD card out of the Droid 1 and put it into the X. Works great. More impressions to follow....

I've had 2 more random re-boots since my last report. 1. I fired up Google maps and it froze on the screen that asks if I wanted to be directed to the GPS screen to turn it on. In a minute or so it re-booted. 2. This morning, I dismissed my alarm as it was ringing and the X re-booted.

So there it is. I've had the phone a little over a week and I've had 3 random reboots. Otherwise the X is great. Zippy, great screen. Nice form factor etc. Right now it's the only 4.3 inch screen on Verizon.

I can still return the phone since I've had it less than 14 days or I can keep it and live with the reboots. The reboots aren't that annoying but I wonder if this problem will get worse over time? After the 14 days, I would enter refurb land if I wanted to get another X. In case anyone is interested, the phone came with only a 2gb card, so apparently it is a newer one.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Is the phone too buggy to keep?

Where did you buy the phone from? I've had mine a few days and have had no problems. *knock on wood. I had a Motorola Cliq for over a year and a half and the thing was terrible. The Droid X and EVO (on Sprint) are the best Android phones out!! And long running too. I'd give it some more time.

Bought new at a Verizon corporate store. Mine also behaved great for the first few days. But now I'm getting re-boots. I like the phone otherwise.

On the off-chance that the X just isn't playing well with the last few apps I installed, I have uninstalled them (Bedside, Dock simulator, Screen filter).

You advised to "give it some more time." But maybe you'll also find that after a few more days, your phone will start rebooting...
