im going on my honeymoon to europe after the summer and i wanna bring my phone just incase i need to use it for an emergency or something. can i get a sim card when im there and toss it into the phone, like a pre paid thing or can i buy one here and bring it with me? or does rogers by chance offer some sort of package i can buy for a month that wont rape the wallet?

Well Congratulations for when the day comes :)

If your phone is unlock, then you can simply 'throw' a PAYG SIM card when you're in Europe.

If you're not unlock:

The Rogers deal is a rapage to your wallet. You can check out what 'deal' that's the cheapest for you: http://www.rogers.com/web/content/add-ons/travelwithyourphone

If you'll be traveling a lot, I'd recommend you unlock your phone. You can do it through Rogers for $50 or online (cheaper but credibility is an issue)

thanks, the big day is june 4th and were thinking of heading out early september for our honeymoon :)

thanks for the help guys. another option i had was thinking of picking up a cheap pay as you go phone over there. im not sure what things are like but i remember years back you could get a cheap phone here for like 50 bucks and it came with a bunch of time on it.
im waiting for my galaxy to come in so ill likely have two phones on the go so ill probably end up unlocking the x10 and then ill do what you guys suggested with the sim. thanks alot

I unlocked my phone for less than $10, you'll need a SIM card from another network though (I used AT&T).

I suggest you try to find a european SIM with unlimited data, if such a thing exists, and then use Skype to call in Canada for almost nothing. Or you can always install Skype and find a wifi spot.

You can get unlimited calls to North American phone lines for a small fee with Skype. I paid $29 for 12 months, you can go by the month if you prefer.

i figured it would be, if i end up keeping this phone ill unlock it and keep it as a fun phone.

the thing is i wouldnt need a big plan, were going for about 2 weeks so just something thats enough to get us through that incase we need to call someone. so something pay as you go would be best in that case.

Congratz man, have a nice trip

Just pay 50$ to unlock your phone and stay away from major headache. I went to Boston in january and used it for a few calls and got a bill of 300$ so i can't even imagine the bill for europe...wish i knew i could unlock my phone before i went, sim cards are cheap.

Rogers SIM, Orange network in Germany, 6 minutes of talk time and 9 emails. Got $890 bill. What a rip off. Just unlock your phone or buy one there.
