Root Home & Search Buttons not working..No Lockscreen either?

I have had my D1 rooted since 2.2 broke my beloved Sirius app and have been satisfied with the phone and it's performance through many different ROMS.

With the influx of GB ROMS I have been flashing more than normal recently & now have an interesting few issues with the phone..

1. My Home & Search buttons no longer work. They do nothing when pressed, only the back & menu buttons do anything.

2. When i press the Lock button my phone does not lock which is problematic as any brush will bring up a screen and inadvertently bring up an app or "butt dial" someone.

I have been using the preferred GLD method of wiping & restoring for each of my ROM flashes but on multiple ROMS now these issues have persisted.

Is this a hardware issue where the one side of the bottom buttons would just stop working? If I take it into the VZW store to have them take a look at it should I unroot and flash a stock ROM?

thanks in advance!

It sounds like a hardware issue to me. And by "lock" button, which one are you talking about? The power button at the top? I have read about a few whose power buttons have failed are or becoming a bit less responsive than they used to.

You _could_ try waht istolvampire suggested, but in any event if you do take it in to a VZW store you WILL want to unroot it properly first.

good luck

I had this problem a few days ago. I had been switching roms and I don't know exactly what caused it. I found some posts on the web, only fix I could find was to do a factory reset. I think I ended up doing a complete wipe and installing a new rom. Also I used the new Raidzero recovery, which has a wipe all option. But I would recommend you have a rom ready in the root folder of your sdcard. I had used rom manager for so long, I wasn't prepared and had to restore a clockworkmod nandroid backup. After that I reloaded raidzero recovery and installed a new rom.

Anyways, I believe this to be a software/rom issue, not hardware issue. I was completely stock 2.2.1 when it happened.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I just remembered I also was not receiving calls or texts, not sure about emails. Anyways you may want to check your voicemail ;)

I also have this issue and have done the data factory reset and formatted data/cache/boot/system then flashed a new ROM.

I am trying to go back to UD 2.5 from 3.0.1 and I even tried using a nandroid from a few weeks ago that I had that was UD 2.5, but it happened with that too. I am starting to think it has something to do with from going to 2.2 to 2.3 back to 2.2. There must be something that is carrying over that is not supposed to be there and it is really starting to irritate me. I have done this process at least 5 times in the past 2 hours to remedy the situation and it doesn't seem to help.

sorry for the lag in updating as I can confirm, at least on my droid, that it appeared to be some remnant of any one of the ROM's that I had been flashing up to when i started seeing this issue. it also seemed to happen after a reboot once the initial ROM install occurred. I could tell because when I got to the homescreen one of the apps would have that orange outline like it does when you long press on it but i wasn't touching the screen.

first thing i did was unroot and ran stock for a few days. all of my buttons worked as normal. I did let it update to 2.2.1, not sure what the software version was but I did have a hard time re-rooting on the latest OTA version so I re-flashed back to 2.2 and did not let it update.

i eventually got it rooted and flashed Pete's ASOP GPA10 which worked well but I was having some WiFi issues & my data streaming seemed wonky. I tried LGB 1.1 for a while and although the ROM was snappy it never really felt as good as PE 4.2 so I wiped all of the .zip files off my SD card and even deleted most of my backups (saved an old PE so I had something in case things went sideways) and have been happy with PE 4.2 ever since.

My buttons work even after a couple of reboots and I have even since gone through a few other ROMs before this one..
