Now that the Froyo update is on hold...

I'm going back to 2.1

2.1 ran fantastic on this phone and I'm really disappointed with the 2.2 that has been pushed. The overall performance is not as good as it was and the lack of the auto-complete on the Android keyboard is just too much of a headache to deal with right now.

When the next official rom or an XDA rom that specifically addresses these issues is released, I will try again.

I'm bummed, but it's not a big deal.

I'm confused as well... I haven't gotten the OTA yet... is it on hold then?

From the Sprint website:

UPDATE:
There have been an increased number of calls into Care regarding issues with the Epic following the upgrade. As a result, the upgrade will not be pushed to more devices until a resolution for these issues is in place. The OTW update on the Samsung website will also be taken down.
Sprint and Samsung are actively working to correct these problems and release the update to all devices. I will provide updates as I receive them.

wow that sucks! i'm glad that i got the update when i did on samsung's website....and i'm really glad that all is well on my phone. i feel bad for those whose phone didnt get it or got it and it messed the phone up

Try Smart Keyboard Trial...then get pro if it addresses your issue

I'm curious as to how many of the complaints were from folks who rooted and previously had custom Roms etc and how many were from stock users who had plain DI18.

Very glad I got the update the first day! Mine is running great and now I can download apps that were "hidden" from us in the market due to being on 2.1, like Crazy Snowboard!!! Great! I have a small lag on the home screen of icons showing back up after closing the keyboard from landscape mode, but on 2.1 all my icons would disappear as well and NEVER recover, so a 2 second delay is way better for me!

Legit question. I would be interested to see (a poll perhaps) this as well. I came from stock DI18, no root, no nothing. Updated via update.zip last night and all seems well for me.

I would think those who rooted would know what to do, but with the one-click root method these days, anyone can do it, even if they don't have the slightest clue what they're doing. They may have tried to just go update.zip method and screwed some things up.

Wow, Glad I downloaded the OTW updater the other day instead of waiting for the OTA update.

So far, I'm very happy with Froyo from the OTW updater.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I shouldn't have to buy a keyboard to do something that the stock keyboard is supposed to do.

That's EXACTLY what I'm curious about. You stated it perfectly. ANYONE can root the device now, but it doesn't necessarily mean they all know what rooting even means or the impact of what they're doing. I came from stock DI18 as well and had absolutely no problems at all

Jeep - Were you running a stock DI18 before, or were you rooted running something else? And which method did you use to update? Was it update.zip, the samsung .exe or did you get it OTA?

It does more than the stock keyboard though. That's why I got it. It's free to try out and if it helps your issue I would think it's worth the few dollars to buy vs. the trouble of going back to 2.1 then updating to 2.2 again. jmho.

For me, I was rooted, but stock otherwise. I did the update via OTW and had the keyboard issues and overall poor performance. I then Odin3 back to DI18 and did the update.zip and had the same results. Very frustrating

If you want the auto-complete/predictive/auto capitalization features, then use the Samsung keyboard instead of the Android one. The Samsung keyboard seems just fine to me.

I installed it, and it is a really nice keyboard, BUT I still don't think I should have to buy a fix for the problem.

I did try that keyboard, but after typing for a while, the keyboard became very laggy and certain keys would just stop working, the "i" in particular. The problem seemed to be much worse with the XT9 enabled.

I agree. But I didn't buy it as a fix. I bought it several months ago because it was more customizable than the stock keyboard.

Now that the Froyo update is on hold...
