Help Having trouble updating to Froyo (official) with a 64-bit OS? Try this...

I had tons of problems trying to update via Kies Mini while using Windows 7 64-bit. It was VERY frustrating. You can read my full story here:
http://androidforums.com/2336420-post20.html

Some of you may have more success than others and myself, but if you're having issues, READ ON!

That said, I found another solution on AT&T's Facebook page from a "Spike Falana".

1. Basically, go here: Index of /KIES (click link)
2. Download an older version of Kies (non-Mini). Spike used Kies_1.5.3.10083_66.exe, and so I did too.
3. Install Kies, run it. DO NOT let it update.
4. Plug in your phone, Kies will recognize it.
5. Update your firmware.

I have no idea why the US has been stuck with Kies Mini, but this solution works so well it's mind-boggling. The update took less time than it took to write this post to complete.

My phone was successfully updated to Froyo (official) 2.2, I897UCKB1 in less than 20 minutes if you include the download time.

Crazy. Just crazy. NO IDEA why Kies Mini won't work when the full version of Kies works so perfectly.

I'm trying this now, because I was having the same issue.

I flashed the leaked update yesterday with Odin and it took all of maybe 5 mins. I spent more time getting all my ducks in a row to make sure I didn't brick it lol.

As for the Kies thing, I use the same version posted above. NEVER update it! I did that once and it wouldn't recognize my phone.

I hope it works out for ya!

Someone on XDA also mentioned that uninstalling IE9 made things work for them. I have no clue what kinda effect that would have, but oh well. Just another idea.

IE9 RC will mess up Kies - I downloaded and installed IE9 RC last week, and it made Kies go batcrap crazy. Uninstalled IE9 RC, everything back to normal. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Ok this helped ALOT. After I uninstalled IE9 RC, I could connect my Cap to the Mini Kies. However, now halfway through the "update" it failed and my phone is basically bricked. I can enter into emergency mode and attempt to Emergency Recover via Mini Kies, with no success after 6 attempts. I have run out of ideas atm.. Halp!

EDIT: FYI This phone was completely stock when updated...

I tried using the same version of Kies as listed in the top post, and it says not to use USB debugging when I connect it with that turned on. When I turn off USB debugging and reconnect the USB cable, I get three options. The first is for Kies (firmware update), but nothing at all happens when I select that. I don't even here the chime of a USB device connecting to the computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK. It worked. I disconnected the USB cable which brought up a recovery mode for Kies mini. I went through that, which successfully installed the 2.2 update without any further hitches. The only downside is that it resets all of the home screens to factory default, so you have to recreate all of your shortcuts.

Oh crap, I think I bricked my Captivate. I didn't realize it took so long to update and I was trying to update it with the 30 minutes I had before work, but it got stuck at 25% for the longest time. Then it eventually moved to 26%, but that's when I HAD to leave for work. I know I shouldn't have unplugged it, but I unplugged it while it was upgrading.

Now when I open up Kies Mini, it allows me to go into Emergency Recovery mode, which seems to continue the upgrading process where it left off. But once the Emergency Recovery mode catches back up to 26%, a "USB not recognized" error pops up (Windows 7) on the lower right corner of the screen.

When I try to turn the phone on, it gets stuck at a "PHONE--!--COMPUTER" screen and I can't do anything. HELP! First comes to worse, I might just have to go into Odin 3 and master clear the phone, but that's the last option.

Is it supposed to say "Emergency Recovery mode" on the screen when it's in that mode? Cuz when I hold down my Volume UP & Volume DOWN buttons, then plug it into my computer, the little Droid with the shovel appears and reads "Downloading...Do not turn off Target!"

OK, so here's my plan...I'm going to pick up a Cap tonight or tomorrow and I thought that I would just go ahead with the Froyo update before I even started playing with it.

I have a Win7x64 machine and have downloaded both the Kies Mini and Kies_1.5.3.10083_66.exe, since I have a 64-bit machine. I have IE8 (although I use Chrome), I mention this because of what I've read about issues with this update w/IE9.

I'll use the full Kies on the Win7 machine but I'm a little sketchy on the directions for its use. I execute the download, don't allow it to update, plug the Cap into the computer via supplied USB cord and it automatically does the rest? Or do I need to follow the directions for the Froyo update given at How Do I Update The Software On My AT&T SGH-i897 (Captivate) Phone To Android 2.2 (Froyo) Through Kies Mini For PC? starting with step 4?

I also have a WinXP machine and a MacBook available. I have not downloaded Kies on either of these machines.

If I pick up the Cap tonight, I could charge it overnight while continuing to use my current LG Incite (assuming I'll be able to keep my grubby paws off). I could then bring the Cap in to the office with me tomorrow and start the Froyo download and have a full 10

Hi all,

I've decided to give this update process a try after I screwed up my first device with Kies Mini (thank goodness for an awesome Future Shop sales rep giving me amazing customer service). I am back to a near stock device (with a few apps installed and some minor customization: swype turned on, gmail account added, et al.) and I have Kies 1.5.3 installed on my Win7x64 laptop.

My problem is that no matter what I do, I keep encounter a dialog box telling me "The device to upgrade does not have sufficient battery power. Charge the battery and try again."

It's a bit frustrating, because I know for a fact that the battery level is sitting at 99%. I charged it up to 100% but had to disconnect the USB in order to be able to see my device in Kies again.

I saw in this thread that Frenzie was having the same difficulty, but managed to figure it out. Help? Please?

EDIT: I pulled my SIM card out and turned my Cap back on to see if the phone booting while plugged in would make a difference and I got a 404: not found error instead of the battery level one. I thought maybe it was the lack of a SIM card so I put it back in and rebooted again, but the 404 error came back.

After one more reboot with the phone not plugged into my computer I tried again, but still I'm hitting "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found." I really don't know what to do about this.

Did you find a solution? I am in the same boat.
