Help Wifi Tether help

The droid doesn't support infrastructure wifi tether like some of the newer devices do through wireless tether app.

I have droid 1 also and cant get it to work without using the Bluetooth option on the Wireless Tether App. Apparently there are patches depending on what rom you are running but I still havent figured out how to do this. Right now I have the Wireless Tether App running but in Bluetooth mode and am able to connect my xoom though that to tether. I'm ok with this but I was wonder if when you tether through bluetooth, do you lose speed compared to just regular wireless tethering?
