Help Memory Problem

I have the LG Optimus S. I looked at the specs and it says i have 140 MG of internal Memory. Which is not to much but that is not my issue. I have a good amount of apps installed and it says i have 20 MB remaining on my internal space. I also have a 2 GB SD card with around 10 apps on it. It was all i could. When i first got my phone it would let me get down to around 4 MG remaining internally, but now it wont let me get below 18! Is there a reason for this?

Also, while using a messeging app it wont let me get more than aound 50 messages before saying i have low phone space, I have enabled the "Delete when getting full" function.

The Optimus S has notoriously low internal memory available to the user. You may have some excess buildup in your cache. I would try clearing your cache. You may also want to check out a free app like Android System Info to see if you can find any oddball memory users.

Really the best way to improve memory is to root and install a custom ROM that will increase your internal memory partition.

Maximus is right. If you root and become su or super user you have more control as to what can be saved to sd and what can be saved on the phone itself. App to sd from the market is great whether you are root or not because it allows you to see at download time whether an app can be safely moved to sd. A custom ROM frees your device from unwanted bloatware and allows you more freedom to customize. Maxximus has provided a thread with links that will tell you all you need to know. Rooting and ROMming is a major step so read, read, and read some more and follow all instructipns to the letter.

On a side note you would not believe how much room voicemails, texts, and emails use so make sure you clear them out regularly. Good luck and hope this helps

I agree. Clear your voicemails, text messages, emails in the trash folder, call log. They will clear up TONS of internal memory. Also download a cash cleaner. There are a few free ones. It finds the cache in all the programs and allows you to clean it. VERY useful. A must have. Also go into maps and clean that cache. I did all that and freed up 20mb of memory.

160 MB?! I seriously need to root this thing. I am constantly running low/having to delete crap.

To get this 160MB, I assume that I have to use a custom ROM correct? Which ROM is best/used to get this much space for apps?

damn I usually only have about 54mb available. Currently running velocity 1.0 rom and have most apps on the sd card.. I wonder what i'm doing wrong?
