[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I know if you are like me you are looking forward to the HTC Thunderbolt.

I was planning on using a relatives upgrade to get it when it released on the 3rd or 4th.

Talked to a VZW rep yesterday and it appears there is yet another delay. I was told the phone will now be released at the end of March/beginning of April.

The rep said this was either because of a defect in the phone or they are making something better/adding something to it. Hopefully they are making it even more amazing and it will be released soon. Starting to get afraid that the Thunderbolt is going to end up like the Merge.

The phones are in boxes already, you mean to tell me that they are going to recall all of those mass produced phones, and re manufacture them? That would far fetched wouldn't you say?

I completely agree that would be far fetched but I was told that either something is wrong with the phones and they have to fix it or they are doing an upgrade or putting something new in it.

But yes I can see them recalling them. I would really rather them recall them and do whatever rather sending out some and some people getting one version of the Thunderbolt and another group of people getting the newer one.
Example the DX which now has a 2 GB SD card. Would you rather be in the group that got the 2 GB or the 16 GB?
This is exactly the same thing but backwards would you rather be in the group that gets the first version or the group that gets the newer one that is better/updated/has something new or different.
Like if they released the Atrix without the fingerprint scanner and then sent out a new batch that had the fingerprint scanner. How piss*d would you be if you were in the group that didn't get it?
I believe the same concept applies here.

they already talked about the issue being battery life, thats fixed in a software release or a better battery which could come later. Beta testers backed this up.

Ok then maybe they are recalling them all now to pop new batteries in them and skip the whole process later on.

Idk what the problem is but as I said originally: VZW said it would be out end of March/beginning of April.

It would be cheaper on their part to just send out new batteries to all of the stores to give to customers when they purchase. Do you realize how much it would cost to recall all of those phones just to replace the battery? If it is hardware, it would have to be a major issue to get them back at this point. And, that kind of testing has been done and passed before anyone would even think of putting it into production.

If there is a problem, it has to be a software problem. Either in the phone itself, or in the activation system as was suggested a while back (this is where I'd put my money). I believe that this is the first device that will connect to both 4g and 3g so there could very well be troubles of how to make that work with their systems. For all we know it could have nothing to do with the phones, but rather its interaction with Verizon's infrastructure. We've heard a rumor about pretty much every part causing the delay, but since we haven't heard anything from Verizon, no one can be sure what's going on.

They wouldn't produce or ship a phone unless they are 100% sure that it is correct.

LOL....this is getting comical! Not to bash the OP, but Just so you know vzw reps know nothing, zero, zilch! Once in a while you'll run into one who is educated in the tech world, but very rarely. Anyway, there is a lot of rumors floating around, and its funny how so many people on here have all the Answers, and know what the scoop is....The reality is, we all know nothing! Who knows what's holding it up, my friend was Beta testing the merge like 5 months ago, and it still hasn't dropped. This is just classic vzw, they are the worst with new releases. As per my friend who does a lot of testing with HTC phones from vzw...he says its a combo of things, he's funny like that and wont let on too much...But he did say the battery thing has been an issue since they began testing them, the GPS has had issues...which is the reason why the Merge was delayed, and ofcourse the Skype issue. So its really not one thing. Honestly, I may bypass this phone and just wait to see what gets released this Summer.

Correct they wouldn't ship a phone that isn't 100% correct.. I completely agree. HTC is a very good manufacturer and wouldn't screw up there reputation on one phone.

Idk what the delay is.. VZW, HTC, or the TB itself. Idk what the problem is. All I know is that I was told the release was delayed further. I am on a waiting list at VZW and they are going to hold one of the TBs for me when it comes out so I don't think they would say it was delayed if it wasn't.

I know VZW reps know nothing (except for one or two of the ones I talk to who actually keep up with Android stuff outside of work) that's why they never answer when you ask about the TBolt and when they do it's like "we don't know when it is coming out" or something like that. So when they actually give an answer other than "we don't know anything about it" I take what they have said as a being right.

I say the TB won't come out for another 2 weeks to a month... or be like the Merge and disappear and go to Alltel before it comes to VZW.

Honestly don't really care at this point when it comes out. Looking forward to seeing what the Bionic and Revo can bring to the table when they are released or what new phones come out by the time my upgrade is up in May.

You say this even tho it has been rumored to be released for over 2 weeks now and still no release date has been announced.
That korean newspaper said people would be able to win a phone at that seminar to be able to win a phone it has to be out right? And they are already shipped out why would they let them sit in a warehouse for a month losing money?

Ha ok you are comparing it to Korea? China/Asia had Android phones long before we did in America and they always get stuff before we do.

Keep believing you will get the TB soon.

My prediction earliest is March 10.

Yeah, I spoke at length with a rep at VZW today. He said the HTC rep was in yesterday, and they are not shooting for mid-March. He also said the delay was on the HTC side. This somewhat corroborates the above post, but I'm just posting what I was told, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest about it. For all we know, it will come out Thursday.

I care less and less every day. After leaving VZW I walked 30ft down the mall and picked up an Inspire to try it out. Hopefully the TB is at least announced within my 30 days, and I will be used to the new Sense and ready to roll. If there isn't a date in the next 30, then I'll either keep my Inspire or grab whatever phone has hopefully leapfrogged the TB by then.

But it don't say they will get the actual TB that day. They may just get it by mail or a verizon voucher so they can pick it up when TB is release.
