Root Question about how to get to 2.3 from where I am at currently.

So back when getting 2.2 was the big thing. I used un-revoked-forevers method to install the ota froyo update early. After using the 2.2 for maybe a month I was having a problem with the excessively long charging rate. So I did whatever it took at the time to downgrade back to 2.1.

Now that is where I am currently. I have no idea whether I am s-off or on. I know when I click the update button the 2.2 update does not show up for my phone.

All I really want to know is what I would have to do to get to one of the new Gingerbread roms. I will gladly give more information if needed to diagnose what steps I need to take to get to 2.3 in some fashion.

Do as posted above to verify you have security on or off, check which HBOOT version you have while you're in there (always good info to know) If you have S-OFF you can flash ClockworkMod Recovery, make a nandroid backup, do your wipes and install CM7 (or GB ROM of your choice) If you need more instructions, a search should provide it without a problem, or ask in here or an existing thread related to your question. Hope this helps

Thank you members for your prompt replies. I am going to check the status of my phone in just a minute. I have been trying to catch up on all the gingerbread ROM's. The one I was following at first did not have the video working. Then I kind of read that guys ROM was a rippoff of someone else's. So now I'm following the nightly builds. But I am trying to see if the video is working. I am having troubles deciphering whether or not it does work a 100%.

Anyway I do know it is a gamble. But I am ready to toy with it a little bit.

I have done it. Rock'in CM7 RC1 Nightly #8. It is awesome. Coming from 2.1 the Exchange would not work. It worked on my first attempt. So stoked for that. Everything I have tried so far is just outstanding. I was miffed as to why there was no Marketplace. Then I realized that may be what they are talking about when they mentiong loading Gapps. I hope anyway, ha. I was like well how am I supposed to restore my apps if I cant get titanium off the marketplace...
