List of quirks and/or bugs

The cache for both the Contacts and Contacts Storage is 0k, which probably explains why the Clear button is not selectable. However, I think I was mistaken and actually meant the call log scrolling being hesitant, jerky, and unresponsive. I checked the Phone application and, again, the cache is 0k and can't be cleared. And I'm also getting some sporadic unresponsiveness on the Manage Applications list as well.

I'm curious what touching the Clear Data buttons would actually would do. Would it erase the call log and the contact lists? Someone also advised clearing data on the application Media Storage, but I'm hesitant to do this unless I'm sure what it does, and whether it's relevant to any problem I'm having.

Also, it isn't clear to me how to do a "battery pull". Do you power the phone off, take the battery out, and put it back in, or do you take it out when the phone is powered on?
The end result is the same however you pull it. I would suggest power it off first if you can just to clean up anything that can be saved. Sorta like shutting down windows with the power button or pulling the power cord instead of shutting down normally.

I first did the update.zip install, but it was unstable on our phone. I then re flashed with the update tool which did a full wipe and everything was fine, or so I thought. My wife has been complaining about occasional fc's and periods where the phone goes to a black screen with just the buttons lit. It eventually recovers, but takes a while. I've also seen people post that their Epics got quicker, but I don't see it with ours. If anything it feels a tiny bit slower than my Evo, which it shouldn't. It's not a slug mind you, but there doesn't appear to be any discernible 2.2 JIT boost in speed. On the up side, the GPS seems to be finally working as advertised...6 months later than it should have. I'm going to try another hard reset and fresh install of all apps (goodbye 1+ hour) tonight when she comes home. If that doesn't improve things, she's requested that I restore it to 2.1. No matter how you look at it, after this long a time in development this should have been a much better effort from Samsung.

If you have any more problems go to XDA and get the full tar to ODIN.
[Stock Flash][Odin]EB13 Extended CW2.5+RFS or CW3+ext4 2/24/2011 inc. Root+Redir. - xda-developers I got the extended CW3 root Deodexed w/recovery and redir. Haven't had a single problem. Even Bluetooth voice dial is working.

My issues since installing are:

1. Quite a bit of lag when going into messaging, and then when exiting sometimes it will take about 10 seconds for the home screen icons to reload.

2. Battery life isnt what it used to be

3. No option to default to Handcent Messaging so have to go into stock and handcent to clear messages or it still has notification that one is unread.

1) Try a reboot

2) Charge phone fully, discharge fully... Try this a few times to see if it helps helps.

3) Hit Applications/Menu/Edit. Drag Handcent onto the bottom dock. Hit Menu/Save. Now... go into the stock messaging app and hit menu/settings and uncheck the notification box.

Does anyone else hate the new call log? I liked having my list of calls received, made and missed in one list. I hate having the messages as well and that i can't change it to display just calls.

This annoys me to no end. Also when i hit the phone button to open the phone app, it opens in landscape mode with no keypad and there's no way to fix it or type a number unless i use the slide out keyboard. That and other random glitches make me sorry i updated.

Camera force closes, voicemail forced close a couple of times today. Did the update through samsung's site, rooted, and that is it. oh yeah, battery sucks now. was a clean eclair too, no root, etc.

Menu > Settings >Applications >Manage Applications >Select All > Clear Data

Reboot. This should fix the camera and (maybe) voicemail issue. I had a few other issues with the update, it seems that a hard reset has addressed most.

I find it humorous that there are threads praising the update here. I know it has worked fine for many, but considering the inordinate amount of time Samsung had to work on it, it should be near perfect! It's not! Not even close!!

I have a problem with bluetooth that goes away if I simply go back to a DK28 based ROM (which I have no plans of doing), but appears with any flavor of the EB13 update available.

On a day when I didn't have a lot to do, I decided to do some testing to see if I could find the magic combination of EB13 loading (upgrade.apk, ODIN .tar/.pit load, Samsung SWUpgrade and the DEODEXed [stock-ish] ROMS available) to get my bluetooth working like it does on DK28. I have upgraded to EB13 stock, EB13 deodex, deodex w/EXT4 (no member ROMS yet) along with stock/Genocide/Daemon's kernels ... essentially every mix of install, ROM and Kernel available. Add to that, I also cleared data on the OPP application --- I tried to cover every base I could. That being said, I have narrowed down my list of issues with bluetooth on EB13 to:

  1. EB13: Paired devices are not saved. I have a Jawbone ICON and I have to add it everytime my phone is rebooted.
DK28: Only add once on DK28

  2. EB13: Unable to Pair and Connect on first attempt. It always takes at least 2 and most of the time 3 presses of Pair and Connect to get the Jawbone paired and connected.
DK28: Paired and connected on first attempt on DK28

  3. EB13: When my Jawbone pairs up, if you watch the notification bar closely, my wifi will also do a quick off/on right after the notification shows "Paired" on the Jawbone. Before you ask - yes, I ran tests with the various radio's on and off just to see if that was the cause. Nope.
DK28: Never saw this on DK28, but then again was not watching for it either

  4. EB13: Like others have said, I can voice dial using the Voice Dialer application on the phone, but I cannot voice dial by pressing and holding the voice dial activation button on the Jawbone (the start/stop/quick disconnect happens on the application).
DK28: Press button, state name, call on DK28

It did not matter what combination of the above I used, the result was always the above. I'll gladly assist in troubleshooting this issue, so if anyone out there knows what to look for in the logfiles, I'll gladly run a pair/connect sequence and capture the adb logcat output for review.

Thanks in advance ... None of these are showstoppers, in fact I love EB13 and also appreciate all the hard work done by the devs and contributors in these forums.

This is my biggest problem. Also if I use handcent to read a text I then have to read it again in the regular text program or it shows missed message.

All you have to do is hit the Applications button, Menu, Edit, and then drag the Handcent icon down over the stock Messaging button on the bottom.

Be sure to go in to the stock Messaging app and turn notifications off, or you will get them from both apps.

I think I'm experiencing the data connectivity issues that have been mentioned as a bug.

At times, my 3G data capability just inexplicably goes away. Usually this occurs after the phone drops service in a low signal area and then reconnects. Even when it gets 4-5 bars of Sprint service, there's no 3G.

Turning data network mode off/on doesn't help. Turning airplane mode on/off doesn't help. I can, however, still connect to 4G service which of course drains the battery ridiculously fast. But 3G doesn't come back once 4G is turned off.

The ONLY way I can get 3G data service back is by rebooting the phone.

Anybody else experience this and have a workaround?

I just said "fugg" it and went back to 2.1. It's more polished than 2.2.1 on the epic. It's a shame when the upgrade feels more like a downgrade. Over time little annoyances equate to bigger headaches. When they can release a version of froyo where the internet browser isnt checker choppy, doesnt geo-tag every picture i take, nor feels half assed with every other bug that has been noted, then i'll check it out again. Love my epic, amazing hardware, lackluster software on 2.2

Well, it's not for me because it's ONLY showing me my calls, NOT my messages. I have a Messages icon that shows all my messages. The log on the Phone icon is ONLY showing me my calls.

So when you open up your dialer (hitting the phone button) and up top you select logs, you're saying it's only showing you your calls, not texts as well?

If this is true, I would LOVE to know how you did this (and I think many others as well) as the all logs thing bugs the crap out of me!

It would've been nice if they had made the options checkboxes instead of radio buttons, so you just choose any mix of them.

From inside any app or the applications folder, if you have the phone in landscape mode with the keyboard open and press the capacitive home button, it goes to your home screen and all app icons and widgets are missing, and refuse to recover, until you close the keyboard. Once closed and oriented out of the landscape mode, it takes 5 to 7 full seconds for all app icons and widgets to redraw. I can repeat this time and time again. Try it now from the stock browser everyone. Just open they keyboard, hit home, and watch the Epic FAIL.

Maybe you should take your phone into a sprint store and have them look at it. My phone doesn't have the problems you are describing. All of my apps and widgets re-appear just fine.
