Pay day is coming on Friday, and I'm still trying to make a decision whether or not I should wait for the iPhone 5 or get an Inspire...I've literally gone back and forth for about a week now, and my girlfriend and myself are getting annoyed of myself going back and forth...for those who converted, are you truly happy you switched? And aren't you worried the iPhone 5 will blow this phone out of the water? For me I don't have the money to outright buy a phone so this will have to last me the two years I'll have it so that's not an option unfortunately...is it worth it to switch and pass on iPhone 5????

I for one am definitely happy. I'm actually bummed I didn't get the Incredible the last time I was eligible for an upgrade. But I'm very happy with it, I absolutely love this phone. It's more of a computer than the iphone ever was.
I suppose it depends on what type of person you are. If you're a geek and like to tinker with the phone and customize etc then the android is for you. If you want something simple that works well out of the box, then iphone is probably for you.
Coming from the iphone there's a few things I miss, like netflix, but it definitely makes up for it in other areas.

I'm definitely wanting to switch because of the ability to customize and really find out what a phone can do when it's not locked down...I'm just worried about switching to this phone and then the iphone5 will be something to marvel at...like I said there's no way I'll be able to outright buy a phone, so I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision...

I owned every iPhone since release, with a couple blackberry's and the Sprint HTC Hero back at its launch. After getting the Inspire I can truly say I have zero regrets. My hero was on android 1.5 and was terrible. But having 2.2 with the ability to upgrade to gingerbread, I won't look back to Apple unless they do some serious OS overhaul.
I had my iPhone jailbroken and fully customized and it still wasn't even close to android non rooted with customization.

I had the 1Phone 3GS, I also have an iPad. Never thought I'd like a phone better than the iPhone. I decided to give this one a try, AT&T gives you 30 days to return it if you don't like it.
I have to say, this phone is NOT going back. I like it way better than the iPhone!!!! I don't really care what iPhone5 has to offer, I'm happy with this phone.

I've been an iPhone user since August of 2007. I'm very happy that I switched to Android. I love the Inspire. It runs very well stock and even better if you rom and overclock. The screen is huge and gorgeous. People complain about the battery but it gets me through a 15 hour day with a little juice left when I put it on the charger. I've never had it die until I was at home ready to charge it. All in all I couldn't be happier with the switch.

You said that you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it? Which I don't think I would have that problem...but lets say I do want to return it? If I want to get a new phone, would I still be able to pay contract price, or would I have to buy a new phone outright?

I came from an old iPhone 3G, and I love the change. I liked the iPhone well enough but was tired of the same interface.
You do have a 30-day period to exchange the phone if you don't like it, but you'll probably have to pay a $25 restocking fee. You should still be able to get the discounted price on the replacement phone.

Don't forget to check for coupons online. I was a new subscriber to AT&T and found a $100 off coupon at coupon mountain (or something like that) so the Inspire was free. A buddy of mine was able to use a $75 coupn for renewing his contract and paid $25. YMMV though.

It literally took me less than a day to fall in love with Android. I don't regret it for a second. I went through the same thing you are describing. I went back and forth and was pretty nervous about going to a whole new OS. Not only is androids OS what I love but HTC is amazing too. I don't think ill be going back to Apple any time soon.

I'll echo what everyone else has said - I switched from the iPhone 4 to the Inspire and don't regret it one bit (I had the iPhone 3G before that). As you eluded in your post, the iPhone 5 will probably be another step-up from the 4. I'm sure from a hardware standpoint, it will probably have an edge on the Inspire, although from a software customizable perspective, I doubt they'll be much of a change from Apple. As with all phones, what's top of the line one day isn't the next, although I see myself being happy with the Inspire for a while. That's not to say that if AT&T gets LTE working by next year and HTC releases a dual-core model similar to the Inspire on LTE that I won't be switching.

We are beyond happy that we switched. My husband and I had iphone 3gs'. We were just tired of it, we liked the phones, but wanted more excitment. We went back and forth about waiting for the new iphone, but we wanted something with flash. iphone will never get flash...
I can tell you, the only thing I miss about my iphone is being able to charge it in ipod docks. Other than that, we are so happy!
We traded in our iphones at radioshack and got $350 for both. We bought cases and extra memory and some random things. The best part, we didn't have to pay for either phone!
I don't think you would be dissapointed, you just have to think about what you want in a phone.

Also coming from the iPhone4. Loved the Apple hardware, but I just felt the iOS lacked a lot of things that I really rely on. I know everyone always discusses the notifications issue but for me, it's a large part of why I converted. I also enjoy the HTC build quality, Sense, and Android customizability.
I'm guessing iOS 5 will also have some revised notifications and dual cores and I'll certainly have a look at it, but I am very happy with the Inspire.

I have an ipod but my Mom and brother have an iphone 4 and 3 respectively. When I got my phone, my Mom was soooo jealous. She loved the fact that I could be notified of email, text, etc without having to close out a program and open a new one. I hate my ipod now and have barely picked it up other than to play music. I can't believe the apps I can get for FREE that apple wanted to charge me for. Also, the screen on my ipod just feels so small now. It's definitely worth the jump. Plus, you can walk around knowing you weren't fooled by Steve Jobs "reality" that iphone makes you better than everyone else. You will KNOW that you are better because you have a real phone. : )

I came from a iphone 3gs. Hands down this phone rocks, everything about it, I will never go back to a iphone, I like the ability to actualy play with this phone and customize it to my likeing..I got mine at costco for $79.00, there exchange policy is also 90 days not 30 and there is no restocking fee..I was going to use this phone to hold me over until the Atrix came out, but Im keeping the inspire now..Very happy new droid user...

I've had nothing but iPhone devices before this one, started with the original then on to the 3G and most recently the 4. The battery life was better on the 4, not by much though since my 4 would be nearly dead by the end of my day and so is the Inspire lol.
Overall I enjoy the Android device a lot more than my iPhone, maybe its because I love to tinker with things, or just the ability to do what I want with the device, have control how it functions, and allowing me to customize it for my own needs and not what someone at Apple thinks will work best for me. I enjoy the open nature of the phone, the Android market is better than the app store imo as it has more variety from around the globe, and most of all it allows the inner geek in me to really come out and express myself on the device.
I have but 1 issue with Android, and I am likely in the minority on this one but.. I really dislike not having a native Japanese IME, the iPhone had native Japanese IME, I could swap back and forth between English and Japanese input with the touch of a button. While this would be possible on the Droid, Google for whatever reason has left out the Japanese language in the keyboard settings..

I recently bought the Motorola Atrix, previously coming from an Iphone 3G. First off I want to say I love the Android OS. It completely blows iOS out of the water. The Atrix is a great phone, but the ONE problem I have with it, is when sending a video or even pictures via text message, it would constantly need to resize the videos before being able to send them. Once I resized them, the quality of the video was drastically reduced; not only was the quality reduced, the the actual size of the video was reduced to about a quarter screen.
On top of those restrictions, any video I took over 10-12 seconds long could not be sent via text in its entirety. The phone would ask me to select a clip from the video as the original was too big to send through text.
My question to you Inspire owners is simple. What are your experiences through texting videos/pictures with the Inspire? Do you have any of the issues I mentioned above?

Somebody else will have to answer regarding video, but with pictures it's the same on the Inspire. I believe it's cos the default resolution is too high to send (for Inspire, default is 8MP which you can change, should be able to on Atrix as well). I THINK anything higher than the lowest resolution setting (for Inspire it's 640x384) will have to be converted to a smaller size in order to send. Hope that wasn't too complicated to understand lol, I kinda lost myself haha.

So basically I will have the same issue on the Inspire as I did on the Atrix? Is this an AT&T issue then? Or is this a universal issue? Any non-AT&T users see things differently?
Edit: I just realized, I've used the Iphone4 which also has a 5MP camera and it doesn't have any of these issues. Unfortunately I am not educated enough in this area to understand why or how it works for Iphone but not for the Atrix or as you are saying, the Inspire.

From my experience on the Iphone 4, sending picture/video texts are as easy as can be. There are no restrictions with size/quality limit, and you don't need to press extra buttons in order to resize photos/videos before sending them. It's just point-shoot-send.
I just don't understand why it's such a hassle with Androids, or at least the Atrix as it's the only Android I have personally tried out.
This is the only thing holding me back from keeping my Android. It is very unfortunate, cause like I said before, I really like Android and I would not want to go back to the Iphone 3GS. The reality is that I text a lot and I could not be satisfied with the current process the Atrix needs to go through to send a text, much less the poor quality videos which occur from the resizing.
