Verizon 3G Speed - Slowed Way Down Recently

I also noticed a change about a month ago in Florida. I went to a verizon store to look at a new phone for my son and I brought that up to the salesman. I asked if the iphone was killing the speeds. His reply to me was, it can't be. The iphone is on a different operating system. You have android, so it can't bog it down. Then just gave me a look.

sighs...........

Anyone think Big Red may be intentionally throttling the entire 3G network back to push folks toward 4G?

Exactly my thoughts.. walk in to a Verizon store with this complaint and the response will be you are using an old phone on an outdated network. They will then proceed to tell you about the 4g thunderbolt and youll never have to worry about speed again.

Northern IL here and noticed much slower speed past month or so.

I got pwnt on my speeds as well in canton, ohio (with 1 to 2 bars (-99 to -88 dBm)) . Up in akron where I work, I'm practically sitting under a tower and get 4 full bars (-55 to -64 dBm).

My speeds in canton are substantially lower than in Akron.

I tried the whold contact support to receive a free 3g network extender, they told my they do not gaurantee service in a structure... but wait... where do you put the 3g network extender? in a structure... LOL. id-10-t error...

So I re-phrased it to, in my structure AND OUTSIDE OF MY HOME within 10 blocks of my home, I am receiving only 1 or 2 bars. send me a free 3g network extender. I'm still waiting on the reply. :)

Its the dam iphones... they kill what ever network they touch. Were all doomed

You were probably joking, but in case you weren't or in case anyone else doesn't get the sarcasm:

iPhone being some kind of crazy data hog compared to other smartphones is a myth. AT&T's network is just really bad. There have been studies in the past that show that the average Android user uses more data than the average iPhone user.

Take away tethering and I-phone (which you can not do on I-phone) would probably be a lot closer.

I gotta find the article again, but I read last night that the VZW 4G plan would be an unlimited and only the 3G plans would be tiered. I know that sounds odd, but that is what it said.

Of course the old "if its on the internet it must be true" deal might apply here! :D

EDIT 3/3: Ok here is one I found but it is pretty weak!! I cannot find the other one yet!

Verizon 4G LTE might offer $30 unlimited data plan, if you're lucky -- Engadget

Now that is confusing! I also read somewhere that Verizon might be willing to change current "3g unlimited" users to tiered plans even though we are under contract.

I now officially have absolutely no idea what is going on lol.

When are these LTE plans going to roll out? Any ideas?

Me too pal!!
I think what they mean is that it will be $30 unlimited plus an extra $15 if it is 4G so $45 unlimited a month for 4G!

Then again, it is entirely possible I have my head up my ass and am way off!! :p

It doesn't matter what smartphone it is, dumping an extra million on a network is going to affect that network. Of course, that depends on how many iPhone users switched, and no one seems to have revealed it yet.

Im not trying yo say they are a data hog. Im trying to say vzw is better the att. And once all the iphone 3g users contract is up im sure we will be getting more congestion. Vzw still has the unlimited data and better coverage. They will be migrating to vzw.

I work down the street from a decent sized commuter school and I can definitely tell when the students are on break or when classes are in session. I can stream radio or Pandora flawlessly over the summer, around the holidays and most Fridays when the campus is empty, but the rest of the time the internet is spotty. I have not noticed any decrease in performance lately, tho.

I had a large drop in performance when VZW merged and shut down the Alltel towers in my area. Prior to that, my 3G performance was flawless all the time.
