Root Never leaving Serendipity again

Serendipity, I'm sorry. I cheated on you yesterday and flashed another ROM. I don't know why - I guess I thought maybe it would be exciting or maybe this other ROM would give me some things that you couldn't. I felt horrible the minute I hit volume down>volume down>volume down>volume down>volume down>volume down>power button and confirmed my indiscretion. FWIW, I was thinking of you the whole time and I immediately flashed back to you the minute I was done.

Now that you've given me the option to package all the optional add-ons like email, battery mod, QuickOffice, etc. in one tidy package, there really is no reason for me to ever stray again.

Seriously though, thank you MikeyMike01 (Confirmation number: 2F168635VG705492E - I guess that's the best way I can show appreciation). I wish I could donate more. You've helped me love my Captivate.

X2 - and what improvements do know noticed besides better battery life?

Appears to me (and others) to be snappier. Being human (?) I must add for full disclosure that the snappiness may or may not be real. Sometimes if you wish for something you find yourself fantasizing that it's real. ;)

From xda site:

"Hardcore deserves all the credit here for the awesome speedmod kernel. I have taken his kernel and added OC/UV support and compiled several different versions. The default paragon kernel is OC to 1.2ghz with HZ set to 100hz. No OC by default. Turn on from voltage control app."

BTW, I'm using it out of the box with no OC or UV tweaks.

Oh, and P.S. GPS has proven better for me although that, too, is subjective. I live in Georgia and the GPS now shows me in Alabama rather than Texas which, as you can see, is an improvement.

I'd rather be in Alabama anyways! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! ;-)

I've thought about flashing something other than Serendipity too, but I KNOW that I will feel just like you did and come right back to it! I've gone as far as downloading plenty of other ROMs saying that I was about to flash it, but set the phone down and walked away. Thats how much I love this ROM! IF I was to ever try one, Paragon would be my choice though....just not sure if I will ever do it. I'm looking forward to the next full rebuild of Serendipity! C'mon 6.0!

my first flash was cognition v4.1 which was great, but battery life was not that good.

i then tried serendipity 5.12 and there wasn't anything wrong with that, but i wanted to try something different.

i just flashed paragon rc 6.0 and i like it.

you know.. i like the custom ROMs. they're awesome. i can't seem to stick with one though. :)

but i might go back to serendipity though.

Not really here to sell ROMs...but. Cog was my first ROM I flashed and stayed with it till 3.04. Didn't see anything happen with it for a bit and started hearing great things about Serendipity. It updated 3-4 times since my last upgrade on Cog. So I gave it a shot. Been with it since. Main thing I've seen is the battery life is better. I always seem to have more RAM available than I did with Cog. Don't really know what to tell you about it. Right now I'm trying the Paragon Kernel but otherwise I like the Speedmod Kernel (K13c is what I flashed )that it comes with. GPS is great with both. Just wanted to see if battery life is any better than it already is. All you can really do it try it out and be the judge. I will say I just ran a Quadrant benchmark and it was much higher with the Paragon Kernel by about 300 points (High 1900s).

I also started with Cognition before switching to Serendipity. While I had no problems at all with Cog, I do like Serendipity better: seems faster, measurably so, updates are more often and MUCH easier since you don't have to flash the entire ROM to update. GPS performance and Battery life improved when I switched to Cog.. and did again more with the switch to Serendipity.

The bigger power users here may weigh in with more details of the differences but for me this is enough that I'm quite happy with it. But again, I had no complaints using Cog.

When I first started flashing I, too, went with Cog and loved it. I like that it is built specifically for the Captivate's hardware and it most certainly runs infinitely better that stock. It's a great ROM as well.

I went back and forth for a while between Cog and Serendipity and have just found Serendipity to be more my style. Definitely seems faster, GPS rocks, and I also have better battery life with Serendipity but, especially with battery life, YMMV. Didn't get around to flashing the Paragon kernel yet but excited to try that out next.

Each custom ROM has its own flavor but one thing's for sure - they all taste better than stock.

Weird , not trying to start a food fight but I feel that team Pheonix offers so much more with their roms, from easily flashing themes to updating, after you flash the rom you pretty much never have to hook up to your PC again. Serendipity was alright alot more fun than Cog but it just seemed that it missing so much. Firefly has gotten crazy fast and with the addition of the Firefly app updating is a joke, and the guys themeing the roms they are just getting more and more ridiculous. I understand that speed and stability are alot of peoples main want, but I just felt that I was getting only that with serendipity. They are all good Though compared to anything stock. I just feel the way you guys do about a different rom, weird.

ive been really trying to like firefly and ive used it for several days but its just not as fast, opening the market and stuff just seems to take so much longer but it does look great. i went back to paragon last night and it just is faster on my phone, by a lot

That's what makes Android the best, there is just something that is a good fit for everyone, and I am glad because if we all ran the same rom and kernel and theme we would be IPhone users, and much like cancer, we wouldn't want that.

definitely, i really want to like firefly but it doesnt play nicely with my phone. i really liked his app he had with it, eventhough i did install a theme through it and got some force closes but thats probably just my phone not liking it. i think the newest paragon is the fastest ive had, i really dont like the notification bar though, i love the pure black on most of them

I've been running Serendipity since last Thursday and am amazed at how little the battery drains. It's only drained 40% since I woke up at 9:00AM to play a few holes of golf. Now I just need to convince my sister to let me flash her X10 with a similar ROM. BTW, how much better is the battery after flashing the Paragon kernel?

Flashed the Paragon6 1300. Full charge this morning at 9 and its at 66% right now after a full day of light use. Used very little wifi but had the gps on and checked a lot of mail. Light gaming. I've had great battery results with Serendipity and the speedmod kernel they use but I must say this Paragon Kernel (Modified speedmod kernel) is the best yet.

well I have been a flashing fool and I must say I too came back to serendipity I just love it. However I used to get great battery life and now it really sucks so I am gonna flash the paragon kernel also. Does your phone have to be fully charged to flash the kernel like when you flash a rom or does it not matter?

thanks

BTW is there a way to get the stock mail app back ?
