Accessories Charging Cable Puzzle

I have two cables, both 'official' HTC, one is the straight cable for the wall plug charger the other is a curly cable from the in car kit.

My charge for the Desire normally comes via USB from the laptop/desktop using the straight cable and is definitely a slower method than charging from the wall plug.

But, if I use the curly cable and charge from the laptop/desktop the charge seems as quick as from a wall plug.

I know I'm not going mad, the speed of charge is really obviously faster using the in car cable from a computer over the straight cable.

It makes no sense.

different cables allow different voltage throughputs its quite likely as the car has a smaller charge rate the cable allows more throughput to compensate

maybe so, but what if the standard charge cable is not allowing the 500ma thoughput?

What utter tosh. Cable simply transmits the voltage/current its fed. Put too much voltage/current through a cable and it overheats, melts and catches fire.

PC charges at a max of 500ma. Wall charger at 1000ma. You're going mad OP. HTH :D

I'm old enough and wise enough to know (without timing it) that what I'm seeing is actually taking place but also to realise that it does not make sense.

It does not change the fact that using the in car charging cable on the laptop charges the Desire noticeably faster.

There are a few other differences which are simple to explain away, there is also no data/tethering option with the in car cable but this should not effect the charge rate.

cables make a massive difference
buy a cheep cable and try and use it with the same car charger or vice verse
youll understand what im on about

you say the pc charges of 500ma, i know this. we are talking about the cables not allowing or restricting the throughput not that the charging levels from the socket themselves are restricted

500ma or 1000ma is not going to get hot or catch fire!!!!
and you say what im saying is utter tosh ROFL
