Root CyanogenMod 6.1/Android 2.2 Is here for GT540!

Whole procedure was as easy as could be, except for two parts.

Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:
1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place.

I ran z4root a few times and even though it said it rooted my phone MyBackup Root refused to agree. Solution was to download MyBackup free version, limited to 30days but I only needed it for 1.

Instructions to install CyanogenMod:

Now you want to download this file: Flashing CyanogenMod.zip and extract it to a folder called 'Android' (without the quotes '') on the C: drive (you'll probably need to make this folder yourself.

The ZIP file i downloaded and extracted did not contain fastboot.exe. Quick google search got it though.

Every other step was as it was written!
Thanks again for the 2.2 update, 1.6 was really beginning to bug me!

Sometimes z4root doesn't work.. But at least you found a solution! :D

The .zip does contain fastboot.exe, I just downloaded the file and checked...?

It's cool :D Enjoy! :D

Question. Is this project abandoned? I mean, 2.2 is great and all but the camera button is bugging me. Not fun to use touch button to capture a photo -.-
It's impossible to make camera button open "Camera 360" instead of the "Android Cam app"? Hard button seems to work in 360.

Quarx has stopped developing this ROM yes, but I'm not sure if anyone has continued from where he left off.. I'll look around :)

I don't think you can change the 360 to open as the default camera app..

For me when i get the fastboot mode and open CMD, the computer won't recognize the phone... after fastboot.exe -w it says < waiting for device > and for some reason the computer won't recognize it even though i installed the drivers that were provided on this website. When i connect my phone the install wizard comes up but it can't find the hardware for the phone. What do i do? :thinking:

Hi! Did you find a solution ! I have the same problem. !

Hi! Did you find a solution ! I have the same problem. !

Hi, the problem you have might be because you downloaded the google addons usb_drivers which doesnt work... i have found the proper drivers of LG for this, here's the link:

http://rapidshare.com/#!download|779l35|422145860|LG_Android_USB_Driver_Rebuilt.rar|6379

The how-to install or update this Android USB driver is in the link below:
Google USB Driver | Android Developers (WIN7/WIN-XP/WIN-VISTA)

apart of that you will need:

* Latest version of SDK:
Android SDK | Android Developers

* Java SE Development Kit 6 update 21 /24

* LG GT540 USB driver: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

* Android usb_drivers (link posted above)

* for AdbWinApi.dll missing error just unzip HTCMania: la mayor comunidad hispana sobre HTC y otras PDAs - Ver Mensaje Individual - android 2.3 liberado and copy into tools folder (SDK)

* recovery_clockwork_2.5.0.5_swift.img:
recovery_clockwork_2.5.0.5_swift.img

NOTE: for fastboot mode if HOME+POWER(at the same time) doesnt work, then pull battery, start it again and hold CAMERA+POWER(first camera wait 1 second then press POWER while keep holding camera button)

*
Once Recovery and fastboot are set proceed to install the ROM (last version of Android 2.2 is 4.4 and it won't be more updates. This project has been stopped for focus on 2.3 gigerbread release)

You're welcome :D

Hi, then you should uninstall everything and install again as i told you.
first the LG USB_drivers so when u plug your phone it will detect it and install the drivers once is done unplug your phone, then the SDK with th JAVA machine but once is done and a the SDK manager window pops up just check the first option (i dont remeber the name but only first option is needed), after that unzip the android usb_drivers into (sdk)/tools folder and follow the how-to: upgrade an existing Android USB driver on Windows 7 with the new driver. NOW your android phone wont show show in device manager as LG GT540 or something it will show you something like Android Composite ADB.
Once is "upgraded" plug your phone and check if windows recognize your phone check everything installs smooth, if no success try on windows XP
PS: i have windows 7 x64 bits wich has brought me issues installing but i did some research about the proper way to install all this and voila i have it working
* THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR MAKE IT WORK *
next step will be open cmd and type the commands... hope it helps!

anyone know why my phone won't send or receive mms?

EDIT: Also, how do i overclock this version? (I reverted back to CM6 because my sd card wont mount in CM7)

To send or receive MMS you need the correct settings for your carrier, what network are you on in what country?

To overclock the phone, download SetCPU from here and install it to your phone. Then open it and tap 'Select frequency's automatically' (or something along those lines) then drag the Max slider to how high you want to overclock to and check the 'Set on boot' box. DON'T go higher than 845MHz, the phone can't handle it and it might brick the phone

I Just have a to say that it took me AGES to get around to it considering i had what seemed like every little problem available to the installation of 2.2.1, then Cyanogenmod 6.1 including using parts of the C7 Thread etc...

But since i've done it and overclocked the processor (with setCPU) and got used to the much better interface of the phone i can't believe how much better this phone is! Thanks so much Dudeman1996 and Quarx and everyone else giving tips etc i'm a happy customer! :D

setCPU can be tricky to install (doesnt come with these update files), i had to use the root Explorer app to extract it to the extract folder on the SD card and then click on the first option (in russian i assume) to install it. For a while nothing happened it just said installing until i remembered to switch on USB Debugging before trying again. :)

I couldn't find a guide on setCPU so i thought i'd throw that in here for anyone intending to use it :)

Create a new APN and for the APN name put wap.voicestream.com and save, see if your data connection works. If not, try the same with internet3.voicestream.com
internet2.voicestream.com
internet1.voicestream.com
internet4.voicestream.com

If all else fails, call up T-Mobile and ask them for the APN settings, make sure you mention your running Android. They'll probably send you a message containing the settings

SetCPU isn't hard to install, you just install the apk which is downloaded from here and tap Auto select frequencies, then drag the slider to how high you want to overclock to :)

Enjoy 2.2, if you're up for it, go for 2.3 ;) (link)
