What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

apple does so many shady things. even back in 2006, they made unibody laptops and ipods.. just so they could charge you $120 for sending your laptop/ipod in for battery replacement.

they deleted some of your apps when you flashed your firmware, forcing you to buy again.

they tried to stop all accessory brands, so they could sell it themselves. at jacked up prices.

their macbooks consist if similar components as PC's, at almost double the price.

their phones have no diversity; all of them are 3.5", and only have one latest and greatest model.

when negotiating partnerships with other companies, they tell them "my way or the highway."

the whole att situation really shows what apple really cares about the most; sucking you dry of your money. instead of releasing their phone across all carriers, they signed an exclusivity deal with att. in return, they received a bigger margin of $ for each phone sold, and held att on a leash at the the expense of the consumers. i couldn't ever imagine google signing an exclusivity contract, because they just want their product to be in an open market.

also, doesn't steve jobs dislike adobe/flash because they wouldn't work by his terms? seriously, f that tyranist steve jobs and his unilateral negotiations.

Wow, what an impressive list of 'cons' you've compiled there. Now tell me 3 admirable things about the company. Can you do that? Should be a piece of cake for someone as thorough as yourself. That is, unless you're just another one of those maniacal critics?

Because honestly my man, I'm afraid that's the way that post sounded. You know, the way those bloody Apple fanboys come away sounding, when bashing Android, Windows, RIM... basically anything non-Apple. Oh how annoying it is listening to someone, anyone, rambling on and on about pure and utter rubbish.

Heck anyone with a half a brain cell can simply criticize... anything. Nothing intellectual about that. A truly impressive and admirable trait is someone who can list not only the shortcomings, but also the strengths of two competing products. And can intelligently converse their pros and cons in a debate above the elementary school level.

That's what I really liked about this site when I signed up last summer, there seemed to be a lot less playground mentality running around. Seemed like there were much more mature comrades hanging out in here than on certain other boards that will remain nameless. So sad to see it lowering itself to those other communities levels.

Listening to some around here lately you'd never guess that if you looked up Apple on the stock market you'd see their stock is worth around $350 bucks.... PER SHARE! How on earth did they manage to take a company on the brink of bankruptcy to here in just over a decade if they were nearly as stupid as some of you make them out to be?

Are you telling me Americans are no smarter than the Germans under the reign of Hitler? Really... you give them that little credit eh? Disappointing. I prefer Android myself, but I'm not so juvenile as to think (much less claim) that their biggest competition, the company that's been pushing them for the past two years, is dumber than a box of rocks.

After all, what would that say about Android that it took them this long to reach the top if their competition was as pathetic as they are made out to be? When two boxers duke it out for 15 rounds, and in the end it comes down to a split decision with the winner eeking it out over his opponent by a few measly points, that winner usually gives credit to his worthy opponent for giving him such a good fight.

.... if he has any class that is.

the only "good" things i can see from apple (for the consumer that is) is that it's very easy to use (ie: home button), more apps (though not a huge issue, since android is catching up), and maybe itunes is a good thing (though i hate it). maybe there's more, but i seriously can't think of any other pros for apple and its ios.

are you trying a little too hard to be "impartial"? sorry, i didn't know that i couldn't be anti-apple. might as well be impartial to everything. let's use your hitler/germany analogy. i shouldn't ever condemn the germans from ww1 and ww2... because i have to be impartial! it's hilarious how you are talking down to me, yet offered NO counters to any of my arguments. sounds like you belong to the tea party.

also, i never said apple is a dumb company. stop putting words in my mouth, trying to be so the cool impartial guy. if anything, apple is a smart company. they learn how to trap consumers, and then suck them dry of their money. please cite some examples as to why apple might be a good product, especially compared to the android. i haven't seen you mention anything good that apple does.

and fyi, i'm not an android fanboy.. i'm just a hater of apple and its business model/exploitations of consumers. and i'm not your typical apple hater either. i don't hate apple just for the fact of hating it. i hate it based on its history and what the company has done to consumers.

bottom line: i am, however, saying that americans generally are stupid and follow style over substance. it's a fact that more iphone owners use their phone as a smartphone less than an android, and it's very likely (at least from anecdotal evidence) that quite a few iphone users don't even know how to use their phones, except for phone calls. from these people i know, they chose to buy iphones because it's the cool trendy thing to do. hell, it's a fact. i've seen a scientific research on this already.

i've hated apple since they became big, which was in what.. 2004? to refer to another post, here are some (there are more, i just don't remember them all)

"they could charge you $120 for sending your laptop/ipod in for battery replacement."

Dell, HP or Lenovo charge just as much for genuine batteries for their machines.

"their macbooks consist if similar components as PC's, at almost double the price."

Compared to cheap creaky plastic laptops, yes they are expensive. Similar with many other premium laptops. Your basically paying for better engineering, materials and construction.

Yeah but these don't really mean anything. They're pointless if you ask me.

It's like those polls they take before an election, it's not always accurate. What is accurate is when people vote and they count the votes, that's how they know who won. And we voted when we bought our Androids and they bought their Apples. Which ever side wins this magazine thing will just win because more people who own that brand happened to vote. It won't mean anything more.

We've already won. Do we have to rub it in?

You are correct. Materials do matter. Apple uses top quality materials and the iPad engineering is fantastic.

As for batteries, if Apple charges 120.00 to replace one, they must take the unit apart, replace the battery, test the unit, reassemble, package, and ship. They also probably clean it well so it looks nice.

Trust me, products with metal cases are more expensive to make than using plastic. For example, the Palm V. Metal not plastic and extremely difficult to assemble. We used a machine that heated the metal cases to melt the adhesive and then the units moved to a cold side to set it.

Taking apart a device like the iPad to replace the battery is as costly (or a tad more so) than building it in the first place.

If the battery were user replaceable, the costs per unit might go up because of re-engineering the metal back to accept a battery door and the door would take away the nice, smooth look of the machine. I love the look of the iPad because it is sleek and smooth.

If you wanted to replace your own iPad battery it might be expensive. Look at cell phone batteries.

Relax big guy. Although it was you post I quoted, I was talking to a broader audience than just you. My biggest disgust is seeing this site erode into the same hate machine that you find else where. Seemed like there used to be a whole lot more intelligence to the comparisons between Android & Apple. Now there's a lot more simple hatred.

Why? Hate is usually reserved for something like the school teacher who molested your kids or something like that. Hate is powerful, why waste that kind of energy on a company that builds and sells computers/phones? I mean it's a ****ing device laying on a shelf. Buy it or don't buy it, it's as simple as that. Why do people feel like they have to jump on here and beat them with a blunt object?

I'm not impartial to things that actually matter. This, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't. It's not worth getting worked up about, and certainly not worth wasting 'hate' on. Again, I'm not singling you out here buddy, I'm talking to all tbe haters who seem to be migrating here.

You gave a few good points on Apple, shows you're a lot more intellectual than a lot of other s that post around here. Kudos my man.

You can be impartial and you are certainly allowed to have opinions. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinions but you are absolutely not entitled to your own facts.

You said "they chose to buy iphones because it's the cool trendy thing to do. hell, it's a fact. I've seen a scientific research on this already" OK, to be taken seriously, where is your source?

You arrive and proclaim how stupid Americans are. If you want to make friends and have your points seriously considered, stop with the comments about how stupid we Americans are. Read a little American history and you might learn that from meager beginnings, we grew to become an amazing country, and we stupid Americans can do anything we have the will to do.

stop trying to be so the cool impartial guy...

I don't think it's cool to be impartial, I just think it's uncool to hate unnecessarily. You say you hate Apple for the way they treat their customers. Man that's a little extreme, I served in the military during a time of war, I've seen reasons to hate. Marketing the iPhone as 'hip' ain't one of them.

You can disagree with their business practices all you want, there's no harm in that. I myself don't agree with their closed system. But you can't hate Steve Jobs for what he's done, hell you can't even blame him. He did his job, he took a nearly bankrupt company and put them back on top. That was his job, he did it well. If you owned a business and someone came along and made you billions if dollars you would love him. You would love him if he were able to get half of the country to think your product was THE only product for them, if they thought your product was cool. And if you had bought 1000 shares in Apple back when they were about to go under, and hung onto them, then I guarantee you'd love Steve Jobs!

But it's just business, you can't take it that serious man. He didn't drug half of America, he created a successful marketing campaign. I admire him for that. As for the customers, they have the same choice to buy those products/services as you or I do. Nobody has ever been forced into buying an Apple product.

What do I think Apple has done that's so great you ask? Well they sure shook the hell outa the smartphone industry and woke everyones ass up! Man I used to think my Blackberry was as cool as smartphones could ever get. Then Apple launched the iPhone and it's never been the same ever since. Android launched as a counter attack because Apple was literally taking over the entire market. And if that was their one and only contribution to the world (helping to inspire Android), then I'd be happy.

But they just keep upping the ante. They keep pushing Android further and further along. With every cool feature Apple puts into the new iPhone, Android has to counter it with something just as cool, if not even more cool. Can't you see, this isn't something to be mad about, this competition between these two heavy weights is benefiting US!!!

Don't hate them, cheer them. Man I hope the iPhone 5 is so freaking incredible it blows the whole world away. Because if it does, then you'd better step back and grab a hold of a solid object because Google ain't the kind of company that lies down and takes a beating. They'll counter with such force it'll blow our hair back so hard we'll all be bald!

That's why I love Apple.
