Root [ROM][12.21.12][SC 2.8 End of the World Edition]2.6.32 Voodoo and Nonvoodoo

Now I'm starting to get confused. I flashed sc 2.8 without issues. I used whatever cwr was included to backup and flash my theme, without issues. Is the 3.0 cwr included in roms? What is the purpose of flashing that if you can't flash zips with it? Or can you? I just dunno anymore

No it is 2.5.1.X not 3.0 CWR. You get what you need when you installed SC2.8. Out of curiosity did you install the voodoo version or non-voodoo?

I installed the voodoo version. I have been on voodoo since it was first available on sc/eb01 (whatever version that was, lol). I went from 2.0>2.2>2.4>2.5>2.6>2.8 , with only wiping dalvik and cache partition between flashing the new versions. My phone didn't like 2.2 very much, super laggy/freezing up, but I had that for about a day until 2.4 came out. I just never knew why I would need the orange/3.0 cwr (is that even right?). Apparently, I don't need it...

I'm with Karib, I haven't researched this much either, but I haven't used the Orange CWR yet. Anyone who can explain when it is needed, what purpose it serves, when it was developed, etc. would be helpful.

Also, with 2.8, whenever I miss a call my phone stays turned on. I like my screen timeout set to 10 minutes so I think my missed calls are keeping my phone on for 10 minutes every time. Anyone else having a problem with this?

Thought I would stop by and update my battery results, my phone has been off of the charger for 23 hours now and the battery is at 47%. Wifi, and gps have been on the entire time, and a half hour trip to the store with wifi still on. I believe the keys for my phone are 1. run the bstats script and let the battery fully cycle to empty and re-charge; 2. Every reboot switch to airplane mode before turning off; 3. Use wifi when able; 4. I have Account and sync settings frozen.

While running all roms prior to 2.8 I was lucky to get 12-15 hours on a full charge with the same amount of use. Tomorrow will be a good test since I do not have reliable wifi at work.

Edit: My bad, what I was trying to say was, when I installed 2.8 I got orange CWM and not red. Why?

it doesn't come that way. Either you installed the new 3.0 Orange CWM before and didn't do a proper wipe before installing 2.8SC or you installed Rom Manager afterwards and clicked the "Flash Clockwork Recovery" within Rom Manager. DO NOT DO THAT. You no longer need Rom Manager at all honestly. 2.8SC if installed properly will have the correct Red 2.5.1.X CWR pre-integrated into the kernel so when you choose "recovery" from the power down menu it will boot into the proper Recovery for the 2.8SC Rom

When installing 2.8SC you need to boot into CWR, wipe data, wipe cache, go to advanced and wipe Dalvik cache, back on screen, choose "install zip from sd card" and then "choose zip" on the next screen, choose the 2.8SC Franken whatever file...let it do its thing, go back to the other screen and wipe Dalvik cache again for good measure then reboot. That will install 2.8SC clean and will already have the proper Red CWR 2.5.1.X installed. DO NOT INSTALL ROM MANAGER AFTERWARDS. That is how you get Orange 3.0 CWR on your phone with 2.8SC installed already. Many people are doing this because they are used to installing Rom Manager and then telling it to "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" which is what we used to do....stop doing that with Superclean Roms until something changes.

I'm with Karib, I haven't researched this much either, but I haven't used the Orange CWR yet. Anyone who can explain when it is needed, what purpose it serves, when it was developed, etc. would be helpful.

As far as what 3.0 Orange CWR does differently i dont really know, all I know is it has something to do with Edify scripts and the Superclean Roms are not yet compatible with Edify scripts, so if you install the Orange 3.0 CWR you will only be able to use the backup features, the other necessary and useful features wont work, and Adrenalyne recommends not using it so just don't for now. I imagine he is working on making the next Rom "Edify compatible".

No, not here, might do a clean re-install to be safe making sure to wipe data/cache/Dalvik

and if battery life seems wrong for anyone after installing 2.8SC you should do a full charge and reset by:

A. charge overnight so you know its fully charged

B. Open Terminal Emulator (free from Market), and type

su (give terminal Root Access if it prompts you then hit enter)
bstats (hit enter)

the phone will reboot after a couple seconds

that resets the battery stats so it will report correctly, otherwise it will think it is fully charged when its not or other screwy things that will make it seem like battery life is terrible or stellar....

i use mine as am mp3 player all day, sometimes streaming Pandora all day on Wifi or 3G both....also some browsing and also have two email accounts that are push (instant notification) and i get maybe 10 good hours out of mine, but i am a heavy user

I guess I'm a little confused...I installed this ROM and understood that it was supposed to change the kernel from EB01 to EB16. Yet, when I look in 'About Phone', I see that it's on Baseband EB01, Kernel 2.6.32.9, and Build number EB01.

Is that correct?

cwr 3.0 was made to be gingerbread compatible as apparently older version of cwr did not work on other phones with 2.3

It's EB16, just "secretly." It doesn't actually show up as that in settings.

Hi everyone, I got it up and running! I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out =)

I'd also like to offer a solution to a problem I found along the way. I had the enhanced Google search on my phone. Once I got 2.8 running I got a 'process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly' error a lot. When I removed that from my app list, all was well. Other people had the same issue citing contacts/calendar as the issue. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks again all!

Hi,

I am currently on SC 2.2 and downloaded the v2.8 onto my SD card. I tried to install thru ROM manager (CWR 2.5.1.0). My phone flashes into CWR, but I get an error at line 4..any idea what this is about?

Am i doing something wrong. Not sure if using ROM manager is the best way to go. Please help if you can. Thanks.

What did you remove from your app list and how?

I removed the Google enhanced search.

I lost my text messages in the move...any idea how to get them back using TI?

Edit: This is what I had done previously, and removed to fix my issue.

http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-google-search-fix

I just uninstalled it the same way I would any application...it was called 'google enhanced search update 2.1' ...since I wasn't on 2.1 I guessed that was the problem.

You can use sms backup (app)

But I've found that over several 1000 text messages is difficult to restore. If you try to, you won't see the date of the latest text message, which tells me that not all get restored. But you can view the texts in the archive file in case you need to track something down.

Okay. I'm a n00b at rooting, so pretty please bear with me.

I'm trying to follow this guide to get froyo onto my fascinate, but it's outdated for SC 2.2 and I'm going for 2.8 which I understand has more files built in (is it just the kernel? Or is it all in one and I just have to push that?)

Feel free to tell me I'm doing this completely wrong and point me in the right direction if you can.

Once I get to post 5 in that guide (skipped the ROM manager part from the previous post because I've seen it's not needed anymore), I get a little lost. Do I still need to push the EB01 modem? Or should I go straight for the steps to flash the froyo ROM and use the super_frankenclean_2_8nv_final zip? (That's non-voodoo, if it makes a difference). If anyone can help me with what to do from here, I'll love you forever.
