I would not put much faith in Quadrant scores anyway. There are others out there in the market, have a look. AVG, Norton, Blue Security etc.

Like I said earlier today, I'm waiting for Eset to release the Android beta. When that rolls out, that's what Ill be using.

Lookout causes a 500-point drop? I haven't seen much of a drop, if any at all. I am overclocked/undervolted at 1265 Mhz with Lookout and have seen Quadrant scores of over 1800 (over 1400 stock CPU speed w Lookout).

IMO Lookout is a great antivirus app - I haven't had any issues with it and have had it on my DX for several months...

I used lookout back when I was constantly installing apps 24/7. Lookout never once detected anything, and now i've kinda stopped installing so many apps since the newness of Android has worn off. So when I moved on to Apex I never bothered reinstalling it.

Just went back to Lookout. Phone seems to be doing OK. Over clocked at 1150. Never had it register a virus and, of course don't know if it missed any either.

Google will build new safeguards into Android Market.

lookout slows your phone down. in fact i dont see the point in an antivirus software for a phone. seems pointless

Dunno what you guys are talking about with Lookout slowing your phones down. I have it and have experienced no ill effects from it.

I have AVG (the free version) and like it. I didn't think I needed a scanner, but I'd rather have something now then wishing I did when it was too late. As far as performance, my stock phone, no difference. I don't even know it's there unless I see the "pill" on the task bar when it's scanning.

I agree. The only thing it slows down to me is when it checks an app after you download it and that is like 2-3 seconds.

i was under the impression that our phones could not get a virus.

but i guess in the wake of those malicious apps, lookout prompted you about it.

I figure I have been smart enough this long to not install crapola... so I will just wait it out and let Google do the work.... I'm not worried about it.

Here's an update on some of the malware infection problems going on right now in Android-land. Google recently released the "Android Market Security Tool 2011" to fix the DroidDream infection, but users are advised NOT to download it. The tool is already being pushed out automatically by Google to eliminate the DroidDream malicious software.

The other reason not to download the "Android Market Security Tool" is because there is a fake version on the secondary Android markets. The version on the Google Android Market is clean, but the fake version on the alternate markets is infected with viruses itself.

It's important to note that the fix does not eliminate the vulnerability exploit that allowed the DroidDream to infect Android phones. All it does is remove the infection. Only Android version 2.2.2 or above, fixes the vulnerability. So, it is up to the phone manufacturers and carriers to get their phones ready for that update. These leaves many of us with older smartphones 'out in the cold' regarding our vulnerabilities to potential future exploits.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up about this one, since the 'bad guys' are really getting insidious and crafty. Most of you guys are smart and cautious enough not to fall for these tricks, but we need to spread the word on this kind of stuff to protect each other. As always, do research and check permissions on any app you download.

I've been using Lookout, but I really question if at actually does anything.
