Accessories Steinheil Screen Protectors Now Available

I had a spare anti fingerprint (AF) lying around from my Touch Pro 2 days and this comparison is based on that. To be perfectly clear this comparison is a Steinheil ultra crystal (UC) for the EVO 4G vs a Steinheil AF for the Sprint Touch Pro 2. I am assuming that the material in the AF I am using has not changed in the AF for the EVO 4G. But as always ymmv since I do not have an EVO 4G AF to test. Since my EVO already has a UC installed on it I placed the AF on top of the UC over the lower 1/2 of my screen. Each photo shows you my phone sitting in landscape mode on the stand, the left half is UC, the right half is AF.

I vastly prefer the UC but the lack of fingerprints on the AF is very appealing, Let me know what you think.

thanks for conducting this "experiment"

I think the lower 1/2 of your screen looks yellowed...
but, is this because you have the AF on top of the UC??? that may explain...??

would love to see you remove the lower 1/2 of the UC and place the AF directly on the screen for a true side-by-side...

I have the UC on my EVO and love it, but agree, no FP's would be a nice thing...
Next would like to see a side-by-side with the antioleophobic....

Yeah that yellowing was not noticeable in person, it may be the camera's imaging of the 2 on top of each other. My objective was really to show the difference in screen quality that the AF introduces.

Is there any way to petition for the olephobic version for the Evo? Why do only the iPhone 4 users get to have all the fun?

...Next would like to see a side-by-side with the antioleophobic....

You guys should check out my post above (#120) that compared/reviewed the Oleophobic next to the Ultra AF. Granted neither are produced for the Evo, but it still gives a pretty good idea of what they are like. I've gathered that the Oleophobic does not work as great as it sounds, and I would rather see the Ultra AF for the Evo.

I believe it would be very possible to petition SGP to create the other screen protector varieties for the Evo. I suspect they manufacture based on demand(unless there is some sort of exclusivity deal like I alluded to before). If we could show them overwhelming demand for the other types of screen protectors for the Evo I'm guessing they would make them eventually. The problem at this point is rounding up enough people that would for sure buy them and organizing a movement of some kind. Most Evo owners probably already have a product they like or can stand and aren't going to go out of their way to try to get something new.

This is just my opinion. I'm kind of a pessimist, but I say don't let that stop us! If someone else arranged something I would be the first to join up and sign a petition or send an email (I've sent a few to SGP Corp. already) to try to get us the Ultra Anti-Fingerprint/AF 2.0 for our Evo's.

2 week Ultra Crystal update:

The protector still looks brand new with no scratches or other imperfections. It's also sitting very well on the screen with no hint of the edges lifting. I am very satisfied with this screen protector (as I always am with Steinheil products).
I'm having problems with my Steinhill Ultra-Crystal protector. It went on great and I loved it, then less than a week later it started bubbling and now it looks awful. I'm hesitant to put a new one on because I don't want the same issues. I don't understand what could have caused all the bubbling that I have on my screen now. It went on great and looked absolutely perfect for nearly 6 days and now it's just terrible. :(

having had mine for a little while now: holy crap these screen protectors scratch easy. I pretty much keep mine in a Starter track jacket pocket and there are scratches all over the thing.

There isn't any ugly bubbling or peeling; it's just destroyed. At worst it barely rubs on a button from coming out of my butt pocket. I wish I had a camera that wasn't my phone to show this to you since everyone on here is "pix or it didn't happen." But, seriously, these things start to get ugly with very little abuse.

I've had my anti-glare one since the first shipment, so over a month. On my first screen protector and yesterday I got my first scratch. I ordered 2 sets not knowing 2 come in a pack so I have a lot of back ups, with that in mind I've been less careful knowing I have more to abuse. So far I'm impressed by the quality.
From the comments if I need to replenish I'll stck to the anti glare and stay away from the Crystal.

^^Haha, so you prefer Zagg even though you've never used anything else. I had a Zagg on my Evo when I bought it & can tell you that the Steinheil is much better, if fact that Phantom Skinz that I had before was better & the Steinheil is much better than that as well.

Anyway, I just received the Crystal version today & will back what everyone else has said about it looking like the glass, but being less susceptible to finger prints. It was very easy to apply as well. Zero "orange peel" & it works perfectly with my TPU case without peeling up the edges.

I've had the Ultra Crystal on my EVO since they became available. It's been great but I do agree that it gets scratched up. It just looks kind of ugly when the screen is off and you're outside. Otherwise it's fine when the screen is on, even outside. Really it just shows me how much grit I'd be rubbing on my screen if it wasn't there. Had it at the beach, the mountains, camping trips. No bubbling, peeling or any other issues.

Yeah, I noticed the scratching on my Ultra Crystal as well, but I definitely prefer the screen protecter getting scratched up than the actual screen on the phone (even if there have been scratch tests on the actual phone screen). Nontheless, my favorite part about the Steinheil is the easy dry install AND the actual feel of the screen protector compared to everything else I've tried (I've had Zagg Invisible Shield, Ghost Armor, generic ebay, Phantom Skinz before).

I am not having any problems with "bubbling" or "scratching" with my UC, my wife has the same installed and keeps hers in her purse (mine is in a seideo clip most of the day) and she has had NO issues either...

Do agree that an OleoPh or AF version would keep the screen from looking like it constantly need cleaning...but my screen is safe for now, and the protector has a great "feel"...

Does SGP plan an Ultra-AF or Ultra-OleoPh version for the EVO....?

Bump... I keep seeing screen protector threads and Steinheil gets no love. I just put an UltraCrystal on my gf's new EVO and it looks fantastic!

After a couple of months, I'm finally starting to see some scuffs on my UltraCrystal. Not bad! Finger smudges are definitely an issue but I usually clean my screen once daily anyway. I am curious to see what folks think about the Anti-Fingerprint model tho...

I have the anti fingerprint and I like it much more than the zagg I had since new. The three differences that most appeal to me are 1) I don't have to try to ignore the ceiling lights when I'm looking at my phone 2) It is way easier to use the swipe motion on my phone 3) I haven't had to spray my phone down and clean it for almost a week.
There are two cons;1)The anti glare gives the same effect as having a slight astigmatism 2)The protector doesn't go all the way to the edges. Luckily I got it centered well or it would drive me nuts to have a shiny black band all the way around the edge of the screen.

Well, I finally had to put on my second Ultra Clear screen protector this weekend. The top right corner and along the sides were starting to not stick anymore. It lasted a good 6-8 months, which is really awesome in my opinion.

My new one doesn't seem to be sticking very well either though even though I wiped down the screen after removing the old one. I wonder if they don't stick as well after they sit around un-used, or maybe some fingerprint oil got wick-ed under the old one that didn't wipe off with my microfiber.

I may try to wash the protector and clean the screen better and re-apply, or I could put on my second AF even though I don't care for it. But I also have another theory I might give a go.

I've finally replaced the AF screen protector on my Evo with the UC and have forgotten how awesome the screen looks.

Af for the entire 8 months only had one scratch, Pros...left no fingerprints Cons...left the screen muted and dull because of the opaqueness of the film.

UC Pros...screen looks amazing, Cons...you guessed it attracts smudges and fingerprints needs to be cleaned every night.

Best screen protector bar none.

I have the one for the iPad and I'm happy, worth the money. Smooth and no drag perfect.

I had the Zagg invisi shield and I could'nt swipe or scroll, it felt like latex rubber on the screen.

Well I've had my AF one on for awhile and I will say this..if u play Wordfued every single minute of your life like I do then you will notice that the Anti-Fingerprint one from Steinheil will wear out around the bottom of the screen and I can see now I will have to replace my film in the near future. But other than that it is a good screen protector and Im glad they give us two of these bad boys.

Installed the Ultra Crystal last night, so glad they give you two in the package because my first attempt went pretty good, but there was a few noticeable bubbles in the middle I couldn't get out. The first application I just did at the office, the second one I did the shower technique someone mentioned and that went swimmingly. I was a bit worried when I went to bed last night because I was getting a bit of that rainbowing pixel effect you see when you get water on your LCD screen, but in the morning it was all evaporated and it looks absolutely perfect.

So glad I got this, will worry less about slipping the phone into my jeans pocket now. Also got the big Seideo battery and loving that too, 3G, wifi on all the time, brightness turned back up to outside viewable levels with no worries about the battery. Love my phone even more now.
