I Just got my new EVO 4g Sprint, this weekend. I have already rooted with unrevoked and installed root explorer. I have been researching all the rom's and I am going with yours. EXACTLY! what ive been looking for.. and the "ELITE" status of it, takes the cake. Being a noob I do have a few questions, if you have the time to answer the.
- Will I lose my data (contacts, pics, videos, downloaded apps, etc) when I switch to your rom? It will be the first time I do a flash, Up to this point I have only rooted, done a nandroid back up and deleted some sprint stuff.
- Im guessing all the Sprint apps have already been deleted or will I still be able to go in and delete some that I havent gotten to yet with the root explorer?
- Will i need an additional battery optimizing kernel? I think is the right word or is there no need for one with ELITE.
I apologize if im getting my terms mixed up, but Id rather ask than brick my phone. Thank you so much, i hope to hear from you. and loving android.
Welcome to Android Forums!!
1. Everything on your SDcard will be safe. That doesnt get touched unless you intentionally wipe it. Your apps, settings, contacts, etc. on your phone, all must be wiped though. Refer to the Rooting for Dummies guide for instructions on how to flash the rom.
Contacts will come back when you sign back into gmail. If you have some stored on your phone though, you will lose them. While in your contacts list, press menu, then "View". It will give you a list, for example:
Google (420)
Phone (
47)
Facebook (275)
If you have a number by
phone, youll want to back those up. Again, while in your contacts list, press menu, and then "Import/Export". Then,
export to your sd card your
phone contacts, not your gmail contacts, or you will have them listed twice. It will save them as a file to your SDcard. Repeat this step, except import them, after you flash the rom to get your phone contacts back.
2. All of the Sprint bloatware has been removed (if i remember correctly all of it has). If there is anything you want back, you can get an apk and reinstall it, or download titanium backup free in the market and use it to uninstall any other apps you dont want. A list of apps ok to remove is floating around here somewhere.
3. The stock HTC kernel comes with the rom. It worked quite well for me. I recommend leaving it for a couple days, and seeing how well it works for you. If you want to try something to see if you can get a little more battery out of it, a netarchy kernel would probably help. When you are ready to get one, we can help you choose one that will work. Sometimes kernels can be trial and error, so thats why you want to get a baseline down of what the stock kernel will do for you, then try out some others and make sure they play well with your phone.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Just follow the Rooting for Dummies guide closely and it will all work perfect. If you follow that, you wont even come close to bricking your phone. So you dont even need to worry about that
