so you're complaining about not having anything to complain about now?
I think the point he was trying to make was that the boards have kinda become desolate in the absence of a major complaint to address. There are GPS issues and shutdown issues still, but the Froyo issue spanned EVERY user of the Captivate. Without it, people aren't flocking here for a place to voice their displeasure.

I don't think it was a complaint so much as it was an observation.

I think the forums started becoming desolate around December as more and more people jumped ship to custom ROMs. The forum was WAY more active during late summer and fall of last year. Samsung took so long peoples' shock, frustration, and anger fizzled into acceptance. When the official 2.2 actually came out I expected a lot more excitement on these forums. Maybe this is just my impression.

ive been saying it for awhile, all the people here were complaining that 2.2 wasnt here but i knew as soon as it came out 95% of people would be disappointed, they had expectations that 2.2 would fix absolutely everything and the phone would be 400x faster and whatever, but the truth is most people probably dont see a huge difference. probably the best part of the update was the gps fix

I just showed up here in February, so it's always looked this 'quiet' to me.

I will say though, I like surfing on the Cappy forum for one reason. I really hate the format over at XDA - There is a ton of technical info over there, but when a thread has 100 pages of msgs OVERNIGHT, it's just toooo much activity. I still use XDA for a more in depth technical info base, but I like the atmosphere, look, and functionality of this site WAAAAAYYYY more.

Everytime I venture over to XDA, I immediately feel I'm thrown into the iconic picture of the stock market operations (papers everywhere, can't hear yourself think over all the talking, very crowded).

I have noticed a few threads here and there in various device forums started by somebody who wanted to express how much they love their phone and that it's trouble free, etc.

Just a few.

I would never say my phone is perfect, no phone is but, I do love my phone. Shame such a great device got such poor treatment from samsung. Sadly I would buy another rsamsung as long as dev support is there with awesome hardware.

I want Android 2.3 on my captivate!!!! Or at least give me 2.2.1 so I can BT voice dial on stock
/sarcasm :)

happy now? LOL j/k

I do agree it has seemed dead in here. I don't know if it is b/c people have Froyo now or its b/c they jumped ship to one of the new android phones on AT&T

I actually was looking forward to the blue tooth dialing. Kind of disappointed.
Now that I am fairly certain that no more official updates are on the way I will probably delve into the custom rom thing.

Well, there's plenty of that sort of disappointment expressed toward Samsung over in the Fascinate forum as well as here.

Frankly, I'm not so sure it's Samsung so much as the carriers and their special criteria for their devices/customers.

I have no inside information at all, just speculating that it's possible the updates are generated by the manufacturer, but are sometimes, on some devices, held up by the carriers for their reasons.

Same here I have been considering it for awhile now and researching to figure out my best options for what I want.

Most of the custom ROMs all act somewhat differently - My advice, get familiar with the flashing process/technique and pick one and start... Most likely, you're not going to stop at one! :)

I've flashed probably about 1/2 of the ones currently available, and am ready for more...

I actually agree with you there.

I mean if they can look out and see samsung taking the heat, why would the carriers care if customers are unhappy?

As long as samsung is the scapegoat.

NOT saying samsung is totally innocent.

However, It does bug me that people refuse to blame anyone else..

Who else would you like us to blame? Faulty GPS, lag, and random shutdown issues. That's all Samsung. After Froyo? The phone works the same. Still lags, GPS still faulty, still shutting down randomly. Again... all Samsung.

AT&T didn't design the thing. The most they can be blamed for is selling a known faulty device. But no one seems to care too much about that.

Again I ask, who else would you like us to blame?

Lots of people blame JUST AT&T. I remember arguing that Samsung should take most of the blame a few months ago. People hate their carriers just as much in my opinion. In this regard I agree that Samsung deserves most of the blame and AT&T for the reasons that you stated. Also, for not pushing harder for an update...but that's them just being themselves.

I was more bemoaning the loss of the excitement as rumor after rumor re: Froyo came up. There was a tension and a buildup that made it kind of fun to come read the posts. I'm not exactly complaining that there's nothing to complain about, no, trust me, I can find plenty to complain about outside of my phone (which, btw, I thought worked pretty decently with Eclair and better with Froyo).
