Root [ROM] ApeX V1.4.1 for Droid X & Droid 2 - Refinement and Ease of Use (2/22/2011)

Hello!

Ok, so heres the deal. I own a MEXICAN Droid X (its called MOTOROI X here), but it is the exact same phone (MB810). My carrier (IUSACELL) is known to use imported VERIZON phones PERFECTLY.

So, this is what my phones "about phone" screen reads:

************************************************************
SYSTEM VERSION:
Version.3.0.15.MB810.Iusacell.en.MX

MODEL NUMBER:
MotoroiX

ANDROID VERSION:
2.2

BASEBAND VERSION:
BP_C_02.02.00P

KERNEL VERSION:
2.6.32.9-g6a7e50e
dbretzm1@il93lnxdroid22 #1

BUILD NUMBER:
IUS

ERI VERSION:
1357

PRL VERSION:
320
************************************************************

So, as you can see, its the SYSTEM VERSION the thing thats bothering me...

My previous phone was a T-Mobile HTC G1 on a mexican GSM carrier (Telcel). Never had any problems with it, i loaded custom roms at least once a week (Cyanogen was my fav... although SuperF was the fastest froyo around)... So now, i wish to load ApeX onto my Droid X, but i dont know how... I already have root, via OneClick; already have bootstrapper (obviously)...

Please help, one of my best friends owns the same phone by the same carrier.... so, were two guys asking for your help.

Hopefully ill get a reply this time...

I lost the SMS notification if I left my screen at the sms application. If I got a reply from the person who I just txtd I don't get any kind of notification. I used the toolbox to switch to the AOSP messaging client but then I couldn't find a txt app at all. So I tried to go back to the Blur app and nothing happened at all. I tried updatetb....something happened now I don't have a toolbox at all.

I am really messed up, anyone know what I should try?

Anyone else having problems with "updatetb" or getting their toolbox to run at all? When I try to run my toolbox now I get /system/xbin/apex.sh: 1: Syntax error: newline unexpected

HELP!

Here are the instruction to install Apex on you DX.

-Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery
-Select Factory Reset (delete data/cache)
-Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card
-Choose ApeX and install!
This will work. It is not very difficult. Just make a nandroid backup of your current rom when you boot into recovery, 1st.

I am having a issue I hope someone can help with, I have tried to download some of the add ons through the toolbox, I have tried to download the clock fix, blur toggle and weather widgets and the files downloads fine but when it goes to run the command it read file corrupt. I got the clock patch to work when the rom was first released but no luck now.

Has any one experienced this and know a solution.

Also I have even formatted unit and installed clean to see if this may be a issue with some customizing I done with no luck.

I'm from another country, i was using cdma like Verizon, it not show on my fone ( Sfone Wireless :( - that's what i need).
I'd try to use change by hex edit but its not work. ><
_ Default apex does not show the wireless name right ???

Just install the attached zip through Metamorph and it will change it to Verizon Wireless for you.

fab's site is down, he is swapping hosting companies and it should be back up within a few days. That affects the toolbox because it looks to his site to pull the applications down to the phone.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can get my SMS and Corporate Sync apps back? Without knowing his site was down, I used the toolbox to switch messaging apps and in the process lost them.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Back to Apex after 48 hours on Liberty 1.5. Glad to be back, had some annoying bugs that required battery pulls. I've never had to do that once on Apex. It didn't seem any faster anyway.

One thing I am missing - can I get the music controls on the lockscreen that will control Pandora, winamp, ect. like Liberty?

Also, I'm having an issue where the Liberty boot screen still shows and then Apex boot screen comes up...--- nevermind, flashed the zip of the stock boot logo.

The 2 things I would do would either be restore the backup from before you tried to make those changes or take a backup, flash apex 1.4.1 again and it should restore the original system apps as I understand it and shouldn't mess with anything else. If it does you have a backup to get to until fabdroid is back up.

^^^THIS!...If Fab could work this out i would love ApeX even more!

the boot logo is handled outside of the ROM...so you either need to find a stock one and flash it...or find a different one you like and flash it...or quick restore a backup of Liberty and use the toolbox to change it back...

So how are you guys getting those rediculously long battery life? I'm OC with QCA, and when I'm at school all day using the music app, my battery will be in the 30% within 4.5 hours. Is that normal?

Just took it off the charger for less than 30 mins and its already at 90% with no use at all o_O

well this thing is not an iPod...there are other services going on other than the Music player...so listening to music for 4+hours is going to put a hurting on your battery...

Used attached file will restore stock M boot logo

So anyone know of a way to get rid of the notification bar animations?

Go into Spare Parts and disable the animations...

Running stock except for conservative governor, I am able to unplug around 8 am and listen to music for around 4 hours a day and minimal use besides that and still have 50% battery around 10pm

Running stock except for conservative governor, I am able to unplug around 8 am and listen to music for around 4 hours a day and minimal use besides that and still have 50% battery around 10pm

so you're not stock at all...because your CPU governor is set up specifically to save battery...

and you're seeing a 20% increase in battery life with half an hour less of music use than the person i responded to...that doesn't seem too far off..

since you've messed with the governor, are you rooted? any frozen bloatware?

What the ?!! I listen to about 4 hours as well, maybe even less. I'm running Blur if that makes any difference.

there are many other factors to think about...

1. You're overclocked. And even though you may be undervolted as well, its possible that the music app is calling for more juice from your CPU so its always ramped up at the higher clock speed...

2. You're not running a conservative governor, which ramps up on the juice less aggressively than the stock CPU governor

3. you say your at school while doing this...schools tend to be large concrete buildings that act as blocks for cell phone signals...a poor signal will drain your battery like a mofo...

for instance...over the summer when i take my accelerated grad classes we are usually stuck in basement computer labs...class lasts from 8am to 2pm...cell service is ATROCIOUS in the labs and i can chew through 30-40% of my battery without touching my phone because its constantly going from service, to no service, to bad service and all over the place all day long...once i leave class, the remaining battery will last me all day...

my suggestion for testing this would be to do two tests

Test 1
1. Charge the phone overnight
2. When you get up turn off the phone
3. let it stay off while you get ready to leave for school
4. while still on the charger, turn it back on
5. remove from charger
6. when you get to school BEFORE you start listening to music, put the phone in airplane mode
7. listen to music as normal throughout the day
8. see how your battery reacts

Test 2
1. Repeat steps 1 through 5
2. leave the phone in NORMAL mode
3. do NOT listen to music during the day
4. see how your battery reacts

- if after running test 1 you get similar results to what you're seeing now then you know its the music app draining the battery, if your battery lasts, then its related to intermittent cell service likely...

- Test 2 really covers the same idea, but it just approaches it from a different angle...

Hi guys,

I've been having a reoccurring problem since installing Apex 1.4, and was wondering if anybody else gets this as well. It has to do with headphones. Many times I will plug in my headphones to listen to music, or watch a video, only to find that there is absolutely no sound coming through. I'll then unplug the headphone jack, and the phone speakers will verify that there is indeed sound...plug back the headphone jack, and no sound once again.

The only fix for this is to reboot the phone, which is annoying since this happens almost all the time.

(Also, don't know if this is related, but sometimes when I make phonecalls there will be no sound: I can't hear the other person, the other person can't hear me, I don't even hear a ringtone or anything. Again, only fix is to reboot)

Anybody else get this?

Good points, I wasn't really thinking when I posted. But if we want to get technical, i must be rooted since i've changed the governor ;) (if you don't i will feel extra stupid lol)

But what I meant by stock was that I was not overclocking or undervolting. I have deleted a decent amount of bloatware such as FM, News/weather, backup assistant and a few other things.

I've had my X for about 6 mo's now. I tentatively initially installed Fission's rom, really like that for a while. Then I lost all fear of flashing custom roms, and decided to test drive some others. These included, Ultimate Droid, DarkSlide, Liberty and Gummyjar, to name a few. Then I decided to try Apex 1.4, and fell head over heals for this rom. Clean, fast and extremely stable. Added a touch of blur, and a pinch of customizing and dash of overclocking/undervolting and what you wind up with is the best rom one can install on your X. Thanks guys for the effort. No need to play the field anymore. Need to buy you guys a beer or two.

Totally Satisfied.
