so, i was patiently awaiting the 'bolt like many out there but at this point i don't believe it'll be released any time soon. the last statement verizon made referenced 4g phones being released q2. not q1. i'm not in a 4g area (service supposedly arrives end of the year) but i did (and honestly still do) want the 'bolt. i am thinking of getting a certified incredible on a year contract (really cheaply) and just use that til the next wave of smartphones comes out. do y'all think i'll be happy with an incredible for a year? i'll likely be rooting, doing some light gaming, etc. thoughts? recommendations?

Yes, i am happy with my incredible, actually i have been very happy. i have been running gingerbread for about a month and a half and i love it. The only thing i am envious right now is 4.3" screen. I mean everything else about the incredible is amazing. I just want the bigger screen, hence my urge for the Thunderbolt. The only issues i have with the Thunderbolt is no dual core processor and a SLCD screen. I really love amoled but to be honest my next phone will most likely be the Bionic. I love the specs it has. Im not huge on the body style but it seems like it will be top of the line for Verizon. Anyway, back to the topic, the incredible is a fantastic phone. It has gotten better and better since launch. I highly recommend it, just buy a 1500 or 1800 mah battery and youll be happy.

I am so frustrated with my incredible. The 3G is too slow now, downloads take forever, and everything fails in the last 5% of downloading or when I get a call. The speaker is terrible, body materials are cheap and too fragile. Also, if you do root, the ROM's with sense 2.0 aren't that great. They randomly reboot, kill and revive calls while the other person is talking, battery life on it is garbage. I can't wait until I can afford the Thunderbolt so i can stop pretending I have it. I would rather have a stock sense 2.0 ROM with changeable skins than a ROM other than Virtuous, which is old and doesn't have many themes.

The Inc really is a piece of work. I've had a few friends get me to root their phones (captivate, fascinate, droid2, Evo, and a MotoX), and although the Samsung phones with their killer hardware and super amoleds once rooted are brilliant, the Inc rooted holds it's own in a more friendly pocket form factor imo. Stock there is no comparison the SenseUI on the Inc/Evo is head and shoulders above blur and touchwiz. I said I was going to go for the Bionic, but I think I'll wait till I see what HTC has in store for us this summer. Oh and I don't care whether it is dual core or not.

I love the Incredible, to the point I just bought a spare off eBay (wanted AMOLED, took a while to find a seller I trusted and AMOLED). The spare has a bit different speaker which has a protective screen over the transducer. Otherwise, it's perfect. Now I'm using that one, and I have another AMOLED in the closet as an OMG spare. I will keep this phone for at least another year or two.

My only gripes:
  • Battery life: Get the HTC 2100 mAh (fat) extended battery/back cover
  • The power button is WAY too sensitive to the touch
  • The volume rocker is in a very bad location and again WAY too sensitive to the touch

Luckily for me, i was able to snag my dads DINC when he switched to the droid x, so i have the Dinc and my upgrade is intact til the TB comes out. So im set no matter what!

Im very impressed with how well the dinc does considering its age, much smoother operation when compared to my EVO, but ya, I gotta have that larger screen and kickstand. 4g doesnt hurt either...

Love my Dinc. Not on this forum as much as the past because I'm spending more time in the Xoom forums. I use my Dinc to tether my Xoom and have no problems with DL times. Maybe that's an area specific issue? I watched ESPN3 Saturday via tether and only had a couple of blips. I'd say get one, root it, see what's coming this summer and make your jump.

I've had my Incredible since release date and overall I love it. The form factor is perfect, the screen is great, although troublesome in bright sunlight.

Batterlife is my biggest complaint. I refuse to get a 2100mA batter because I don't want to make the phone bigger than it is.

I still haven't rooted, but I'm considering it. Looking for a real compelling reason to do so. So far, I haven't found a good one yet.

Overall though, I think most people would be happy with with an Incredible for at least another year or so.

I love mine except for these stupid minor issues that probably only annoy me: only two colors for the LED, plus it's VERY small and useless compared to the Droid/X. Battery kinda sucks, but there are plenty of 3rd party solutions.

I guess that's really all.

I'd have to disagree that the Incredible's screen is "useless" even compared to the X. It's not THAT much smaller than the X. And it's much larger than the Eris that I'm using now, and I wouldn't even call the Eris' screen "useless."

But maybe "useless" means something different to you.

The Incredible has a pretty substantial screen compared to most smartphones. It's not large, but it's not small either. And if you keep your phone in your pants pocket, it's just the perfect size. The X screen on the other hand is so big it makes the phone too large to comfortably keep in your pocket, or really even on a belt-clip. It's about halfway between a normal smartphone and a tablet. Which is cool in some ways, but kinda impractical for most people.

There is a reason we don't use clunky phones like this anymore.

He was talking about the notification LED, not the screen.

Cool! I like the part about them having 10 new 4G devices by Summer.
Surely some of those will be new Android phones.

What does the TB offer over the Inc, besdies a larger screen?
I really am curious. Because I think they have the same processor, right? What about memory? Same? They both run Froyo Sense? Or does the TB run Gingerbread?

I just read somewhere that it does have a 1Ghz processor, and is running Froyo-Sense.

I know the 4G is the main selling point, but isn't 4G coverage going to be very spotty for the forseeable future?

Call me crazy, but if I really don't care for a phone that bulky, and 3G is plenty fast enough for me, I can't see spending the money on a thunderbolt.

I am not even eligible for a new-every-two until July 2012, and I'm using an Eris now. My wife is going to get me a nice but used Incredible from ebay for my b-day next month. An I think I'll be quite happy with it until July 2012. By then maybe there will be some better 4G alternatives to the bulky Thunderstorm. Maybe a newer phone with the same form factor as the Incredible would be nice.

Thanks!

The 4g map has definitely grown since I looked at it a few weeks ago.
I got a email this morning from verizon saying the thunderbolt is available today and am slightly tempted but trade in on my dinc is only $100. I think I will have to wait. Hopefully not too long, since the dinc value has dropped $50 in the 3 months. And they currently have the unlimited data, but that is suppose to end still. I want to get grandfathered in.
