Only 2.5 gb free (not 8gb and not 40gb (37.5gb usable) total as VZW and reviews tout)

Sorry folks, but saying there is 8gb internal is already a stretch (for all devices), since only about 7.5gb or so really can can be usable, but to have an additional 5gb missing out of the gate borders on false advertisement.

Is there 5gb of bloatware on this? This would be a record of no equal if so. The normal way it works is the OS and stock roms are in the actual main rom chip (512mb or 1gb). Seems HTC are using a lot of the space already.

I will stick with my Incredible until someone has a rom that hopefully purges bloatware. Perhaps if I had 4G, my perspective would be more forgiving. Probably would change, since 4G would be sweet. Late summer at best for my area.

How much device app storage?

How much media space?

A review I read said it had a little over 2gb for media storage, so about 5gb of app space?

I'm assuming you have never used a pc before? All hard drives do this since a gigabyte does not actually equal 1,000,000,000 bytes of data.

I clearly point out that 8gb only equals about 7.5 gb usable space. Point is why mention it when not available? 5gb usable space is missing.

No, the Droid X has two and a half times more space for apps, so the TB is not the most. DXs 8gb is a little closer to advertised. Blur sux though, regardless.

Well, aside from some folks here thinking that 2.5gb usable out of 8gb is normal ;) It seems the TB has broken all records for bloatware- about 5gb worth (that is where the space apparently is). Question is can this be used (uninstall apps), or for non-rooters, will this always be cut off.

The 40gb touted should be about 37.5gb of usable space. Actual is 32.5gb. Point is do not tout the space if not available to the user.

Let it go man. It's NOT that big of a deal. You seem to be one of the only people, if not the only person, on this and other forums complaining about this. It's a VZ phone and it has bloatware. SHOCKER.

5GB sure can store a lot of game roms or videos. Seems instead of bloatware, it is boatware, but if people are happy- cool. None the less, the luv dust will settle and then people will be reporting the pros and the cons, so fence sitters can make a decision on the TB.

Again, 4G trumps everything IMO, if in your area :)

Once the phone is rooted the bloatware will vanish . This phone has more ram and memory than 90% of the folks will ever use anyway.

100% correct. I am being Eeyore, since no 4G in my work area until late summer/fall and not where I live until next year. Even my "grandfather" strategy of buying to invest in 4G unlimited has holes, since grandfathering is only good through the term of the signed contract.

I am bitter- need beer. added: I do not like bitter beer, regardless (bleh).

i too am ticked off by this. this is not a case of 1000 bytes != 1 kb. this is an issue where either vzw is putting more bloatware on these phones than most phones have total storage space...

*or* something with HTC programming where they're poorly managing space. i wonder if this is something in response to the low space issues we were getting on the inc - maybe they cordoned off gigabytes worth of space so that we don't complain about the low space issue =P

either way, it's not good.

i just checked my coworker's phone - he has the inspire 4g - basically the same phone. it comes with 4gb, but he only has 0.88 gb free. granted, he's probably installed some stuff, but now i'm thinking it's an HTC issue...

I'm wondering what the real reason for the missing 5GB... it must be partitioned for some other use -cache??

But I really don't see where I would need that space anyway. I have an Eris with like 150MB of internal store... I've only used about 100MB. I can't see getting anywhere near filling 2.5GB worth of space.

Based on the break out that JohnnyBoy mentioned with his demo TB, it seems some is allocated to the OS, but most is bloatware (games, apps, demo videos, etc).

Rooting should fix most of this issue and also open the door up for a 3G/4g toggle and setcpu :)

I'm sure this will get better when the phone gets rooted and you can delete the bloat, but seriously, even 2GB of internal storage is a hellva lot in Android. Have you seen how big the average app is? Most are around 1MB. Even the storage hogs are only 20MB or so. Don't worry so much right now. Just enjoy your new toy.

So I have an OG Droid with 256MB of RAM. I've been looking at the TB and the specs say 768MB RAM, 8GB internal storage, and 32GB SD card. Coming from a phone with just RAM and a 16GB SD card, I'm confused about the 8GB of internal storage. What is it exactly and how is it different than the 768MB of RAM on this phone? The memory on the OG Droid is the thing that really kills me.

I would assume it should work like the droid x? Where the 8 gigs of internal memory is just for apps? I quite like the setup.
