I just wanted to say thank you to my eris and you guys. It was my first Smart phone and I fell in love with Android so much that I have moved on to a thunderbolt.

Anyone else planning to?

Take care eris forum! I'll check in every now and then. The eris still has a special place in my heart

I checked out the TB today at the store. Damn, it was fast, and damn it was BIG! I'm not happy with the size of it, so didn't get it. I just wish they'd re-release the Eris with a faster processor and 4G. I love the size of the phone, and the track ball.

I would go with an Incredible if they updated that phone.

I agree about the TS being too big.

What updates are you saying you'd like to see for the Incredible? 2.3? The TS doesn't even have that, does it?

You may not have heard, but the Incredible 2 is coming out soon. 4" screen and may come with 2.3 out of the box. Not 4G, though.

I agree that the Thunderbolt is way too big for me. I hate this tendency for good Android handsets to become enormous-looking slabs. It's definitely not what I want.

I've read several rumors about the Inc2 as well, though I'm not sure if they are fitting that 4" display in a phone that's the same physical dimensions, or if the handset will be slightly bigger as well. The current Dinc is just about as big as I would want a phone to be, at the max.

It definitely is taking me some time getting used to the T-Bolt's size. Biggest issue is battery life.

I agree, it will be a bigger phone than the Dinc, just based on the pics. At least it will be smaller than the T-Bolt. Also, it has the same size battery as the T-Bolt. Good luck.

I just played around with one in the store a few minutes ago. Also played with the Inc and X, and honestly the TB feels bulkier and more awkward in my hand than even the X does. If feels bigger than the X for some reason. And the X is not small.

After having some hands-on time with all three, I'm still leaning toward the Incredible. I don't care if it's just about to be EOL'd. It's a great phone.

I played with the X a few months ago and I didn't mind it that much (not a huge fan of Moto Blur, though.) I think it's thinness makes it acceptable. I still haven't seen a Thunderbolt in person, but I have played around with an Evo, and it sounds like it's the same.

I like the Inc, too, but I worry that I'd be sitting around on the latter side of my contract cursing over the fact that it is not powerful enough to run updated apps, as I feel now. But I really have plenty of time before I need to worry about this.

It seems like yesterday that I was waiting for the Fed Ex truck to arrive at my office with my New Eris. Having had a blackberry for 2 yrs I was so excited to finally have a touchscreen phone that could do all this crazy shit.

Honestly the Eris has been a complete let down. I am on my 4th refurb. This 2yr contract feels like an eternity! Bottom line is as appealing as the TB is I dont think I would want it. I really think HTC is garbage. I mean come on 4 phones in only a year and a half. That is ridiculous!

What really sucks is I do like Sense and only HTC phones come with Sense. Anyhow just warning anyone who is considering a TB to think it through before they buy an HTC phone.

Youve been warned.

I started out with an eris about a year ago. I have since gone through over 10 phones in the past year. I went Eris-Droid-Droid2. I wish I had stayed away from the droid 2. It is such a letdown. I have gotten all the phones as replacements and am sick of motoblur/ninjablur. I want sense again. And once you get your first phone replaced youbget crappy refurbs ttill you buy a new phone. Thankfully I am somehow able to upgrade super early and so I think I am going to jump at it

You know I have had that exact same experience with LG phones. There was a little stent where I had gotten like 4 refurbs in a row, and each time there was something wrong with the replacement phone. And it wasn't always the same problem either. And they had even swapped me with different phones a couple of times. And I had bought different phones too. I went from the Dare, to the Env3, to the Chocolate-Touch, back to the Env3, and I had at least two replacements for each of those phones. The last Chocolate-Touch I had was about 99% problem free. lol (I gave that phone to my dad when I got the Eris.)

But I think sometimes that just happens.
LG makes quality stuff usually. And so does HTC.

For example, I am using a hand-me-down Eris, that my bro-in-law gave me. And he bought it when they first came out. And he is not one to baby his phone. No screen-protector, no case. Put it in the same pocket as his keys. Let his baby play with it. Etc... And when I got it, the screen had a couple of small scratches and one of the corners of the phone had a scuff, and the camera lense (not the actual lense, but the cover on the battery cover) was scratched. But the phone worked perfectly. Nothing at all wrong with it. I never even had any trackball issues. And the phone still works perfectly, but much faster now that it's running XTR-Rom instead of stock.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I am sorry you had such a bad experience, but it doesn't turn me off to HTC, not at all. I have always thought, of all the non-apple smartphones, HTC always made the best ones.

And in spite of all my talk of how bulky the Thunderbolt is, I bought one yesterday. lol
I didn't get it, because they are out of stock, but it's gonna be delivered to my house on Tuesday.
I did that thing where I activated another line for the cheap plan, $10 per month, and I dropped my text messaging from 500 down to 250 (as I never go over 250 anyway), so really it's only adding $5 per month to my plan. And in two years, I'll just cancel that other line. But I get the upgrade discount by doing that.

So I get to spend today and tomorrow with my wonderful Eris! But then it's on to newer better things. If my bro-in-law wants it back, I'll give it back to him. But if not, I'll put it on ebay.

It's been a fun learning experience playing around with this phone, for the few months that I've owned it. Well, whatever day I joined the forum was when I got the Eris. I can't see it right now, but it probably wasn't even 3 months ago.

I appreciate all the help from Doogald especially, but also from everyone else who answered my newb questions.

I've been lurking quite a bit on the Inc forum because I thought I was getting an Inc. Oh well. I'm sure I'll check back here often.

edit:
Sorry this post is so long, I didn't realize it till I posted it.

edit:
It says I joined the forums in August last year, but I haven't had the Eris that long. Maybe since mid January.

Another victim of the 2 year contract here. I'm not eligible until October. If I was it would be a tough choice. It would be nice to get locked into the current 4g unlimited pricing before it goes up, but the phone to me is not that impressive. It's basically a warmed over evo, kind of like the eris and hero. I'd like something at least dual core, and smaller would be nice. I'm interested to see what the boot loader is like on the bionic.

played with my friend's new TB today for about an hour, the speed of surfing the web is amazing on 4g, as fast as my home cox broadband, but the battery is indeed a joke as I couldn't believe how much I used in just an hour and my friend says he is lucky to make it half a work day before charging. I also felt it was just too big and bulky. I'm sticking with my eris which I just updated to xtrsense 5.0 and it is humming along beautifully, certainly no speeds like the TB but the battery is great and I love the size and screen display. 4g is the only reason I would consider upgrading as that is nice especially with wireless tethering which I have, but I can live with my 3g speeds as long as my eris continues with great battery life, no lags, great call quality and handling all my apps...unlike some I have never had any issue with my eris which I originally got in Nov 09.

Mostly because I have absolutely no need for a 4G phone (really 20mbps? I don't browse nearly enough for that to be worthwhile), don't want to deal with the battery drain LTE causes, and don't care for a 4.3" screen, I'll probably wait until the Inc 2 drops and upgrade to that when I'm eligible in June. Plus, I will still be able to grandfather in my 3G unlimited plan hopefully.

For those mentioning being "stuck" because your contract isn't up for a new phone at a discount, there are ways to get a new phone for a great price. I recently purchased a brand new D2 for $240. You don't have to wait and then sign ANOTHER two year contract with your provider to upgrade. Just check out eBay, Craigslist, or other local classifieds in your area. People are selling practically brand new phones all the time. Unless you want the latest released phones, buying from other people is the perfect way to upgrade.

And the bonus with getting new phones this way is that you don't have to tie yourself to a provider with another contract. :) As for the one who didn't like his D2, that's too bad. I LOVE my D2! You can root and remove all the BLUR stuff if you don't like it. Great phone, no issues after two months of use. Perfect size, too. Only slightly bigger than the Eris, feels much more solid, and a physical keyboard available when you want to use it.

Well, if you want the Thunderbolt so bad, just wait until the next new phone comes out and all the idiots who switch to a new phone every time a new one comes out (or get a newer phone right before the next best thing comes out, then get the newest and sell the one they just got). People will start selling Thunderbolts for equal to or less than contract pricing.

You're never "stuck" because of your contract. You can always find phones at good prices. Just takes patience.

outside of one city that I go to maybe once a contract period if even that, there is no 4G in my state. so the thunderbolt sounds overpriced overkill for my area 100x fold.
I like my eris still have the first one I got in nov 09. other than a glitchy trackball that is near defunct entirely its been a good phone. although i have a strange charging issue that only recently sprung up which has me a bit bummed.
