It seems like yesterday that I was waiting for the Fed Ex truck to arrive at my office with my New Eris. Having had a blackberry for 2 yrs I was so excited to finally have a touchscreen phone that could do all this crazy shit.
Honestly the Eris has been a complete let down. I am on my 4th refurb. This 2yr contract feels like an eternity! Bottom line is as appealing as the TB is I dont think I would want it. I really think HTC is garbage. I mean come on 4 phones in only a year and a half. That is ridiculous!
What really sucks is I do like Sense and only HTC phones come with Sense. Anyhow just warning anyone who is considering a TB to think it through before they buy an HTC phone.
Youve been warned.
You know I have had that exact same experience with LG phones. There was a little stent where I had gotten like 4 refurbs in a row, and each time there was something wrong with the replacement phone. And it wasn't always the same problem either. And they had even swapped me with different phones a couple of times. And I had bought different phones too. I went from the Dare, to the Env3, to the Chocolate-Touch, back to the Env3, and I had at least two replacements for each of those phones. The last Chocolate-Touch I had was about 99% problem free. lol (I gave that phone to my dad when I got the Eris.)
But I think sometimes that just happens.
LG makes quality stuff usually. And so does HTC.
For example, I am using a hand-me-down Eris, that my bro-in-law gave me. And he bought it when they first came out. And he is not one to baby his phone. No screen-protector, no case. Put it in the same pocket as his keys. Let his baby play with it. Etc... And when I got it, the screen had a couple of small scratches and one of the corners of the phone had a scuff, and the camera lense (not the actual lense, but the cover on the battery cover) was scratched. But the phone worked perfectly. Nothing at all wrong with it. I never even had any trackball issues. And the phone still works perfectly, but much faster now that it's running XTR-Rom instead of stock.
So I guess what I'm saying is, I am sorry you had such a bad experience, but it doesn't turn me off to HTC, not at all. I have always thought, of all the non-apple smartphones, HTC always made the best ones.
And in spite of all my talk of how bulky the Thunderbolt is, I bought one yesterday. lol
I didn't get it, because they are out of stock, but it's gonna be delivered to my house on Tuesday.
I did that thing where I activated another line for the cheap plan, $10 per month, and I dropped my text messaging from 500 down to 250 (as I never go over 250 anyway), so really it's only adding $5 per month to my plan. And in two years, I'll just cancel that other line. But I get the upgrade discount by doing that.
So I get to spend today and tomorrow with my wonderful Eris! But then it's on to newer better things. If my bro-in-law wants it back, I'll give it back to him. But if not, I'll put it on ebay.
It's been a fun learning experience playing around with this phone, for the few months that I've owned it. Well, whatever day I joined the forum was when I got the Eris. I can't see it right now, but it probably wasn't even 3 months ago.
I appreciate all the help from Doogald especially, but also from everyone else who answered my newb questions.
I've been lurking quite a bit on the Inc forum because I thought I was getting an Inc. Oh well. I'm sure I'll check back here often.
edit:
Sorry this post is so long, I didn't realize it till I posted it.
edit:
It says I joined the forums in August last year, but I haven't had the Eris that long. Maybe since mid January.
