I have a Droid 2 and the basic Multimedia Dock (not the XT, which is designed to accomodate the BP7X battery). I recently purchased the BP7X extended battery and found that with the new battery and back plate, the phone would not fit into the dock without using some force. I'd worry about using it this way due to the torque that seems to be placed on the USB port. It just doesn't seem to be a healthy long-term solution. This brings me to my question...
I found that if I remove the back plate, the phone fits perfectly in the dock without the odd twisting force on the USB port. I use the dock at work in a standard office environment, so I'm not in a high dust/particulate/humidity environment. I'm wondering if allowing the phone to be on (and charge through) the dock without the back plate may somehow be harmful to the phone in the short- or long-term. If anyone could toss in your thoughts or opinions, I would appreciate it.
