hello everyone
iv just got a galaxy apollo from cpw in the uk and my mates flashed it with the following rom
pda:i5800xxjpf
phone:i5800xxjp4
csc:i5800oxxjpf
build info 2010.12

now im either being thick(which could be the case) or im just blind but i cant find the rom on samfirmware.
however my question is when samsung release the offical 2.2 firmware for the uk can i upgrade via kies as at the moment kies says theres no firmware for my phone which i kind of gathered there wouldnt be!!
if i can upgrade via kies do i need to download a 2.1 rom first.....
any help you can offer me i would be very grateful.

also on another not when i run navigator or maps and close those apps my phone runs like a bag of crap,is there a work around for this problem.

and one last question im wireless router is is "N" standards but even in the same room as my router my phone gets a crap signel and if i go into another room i lose it altogether...is this a known problem as iv owned a lg optimus gt540 and a iphone and always had a fantastic reception via my router

once again thanks in advance for any help

Hey Chalky,

Sounds like you're having an issue with your firmware.

To be honest, I would try out a different custom firmware from over at XDA:
Galaxy 3 Android Development - xda-developers

They have some nice custom ROMs. There's 3 really good ones. I've never had issues on the custom ROMs, but sometimes have had issues on base ROMs which it looks like you're using.

Once the 2.2 update hits Kies, you will have to install a 2.1 ROM from samfirmware.com, and update that way. Personally, whether they release a 2.2 update or not on Kies I'm not going to bother with it as the custom ROMs are doing perfectly fine.

Chalky,

Assuming you are on the right page of samfirmware.com for the i5800, the XXJPF firmware is the 3rd from the bottom in the first list. The latest version is XXJPM (second from the bottom), so you could ask your mate to flash your phone to this one and see if that makes a difference.

I have used maps and not noticed any difference after closing it down.

I also have a wireless N router and have experienced no problems with the connection.

I was on XXJPF but flashed to XXJPM and currently have a CUSTOM ROM installed.

If you go to the link "Check the status of your firmware here" at the bottom of the same page, you will see what all the letters/numbers mean. XX and XW are both suitable for the UK. I have tried XXJPM but not XWJPD.

As for custom ROMs I have not tried Lestacious - it seens too complicated to install.

I have installed Indroid 3.0 Honeycomb Remix JPM Stock laxfixed and am very pleased with it. The beauty of this ROM is that it is a 'one package' ROM so once you download the zip/rar/7z compressed file and extract it there is only the one .tar file to load in ODIN (along with the OPS file of course).

There are a number of custom ROMs on the go and you can find out more about them and see screen shots if you register with XDA and look at this link
