Root [ROM] ApeX V1.4.1 for Droid X & Droid 2 - Refinement and Ease of Use (2/22/2011)

Thanks for the great ROM. So far I am loving the balance of Blur and AOSP.

A BBIIGG issue for me in the THX startup sound. How do I disable that?

I restart my phone multiple times each day and I'm in a cubicle environment, so that doesn't work for me.

It's an option in the toolbox.

Open terminal and do the following:
su
apextoolbox
Select 6 for "goodies"
Select 3 for "Toggle Custom Boot Animation"
Select 2 to "Disable THX Sound"

there you go...

I just rooted for the first time yesterday and installed my first rom.....Apex. So far I am loving it and see myself never going back to stock. Now I read this sad news that the project is dead. What will this mean long term? What else could have been improved? Seems pretty stable. Eventually will I have to move on to a new rom?
Thanks fab! Awesome work. Much appreciated!

It means that when, and if Gingerbread comes to the X, there will be no ApeX for it.

P.S. There's always something to improve, a tweak here and there ;)

Is there a way to use the ApeX MMS.app (or aosp MMS) without using the ROM? I've tried to install Fab's with no luck at all. It keeps force closing when I get a text.

If there is a way to use the aosp MMS on a rooted droid (with no ROM installed) I'd be grateful for any tips or directions :)

Thanks in Advance!

My prediction.. The X is definitely getting Gingerbread. The leak is out and currently being tested. All the .340 based roms will be suspect then. For those resistant to the 2.3 update, the old roms will still be around though support might not. My prediction is developers who continue to work on DX roms will work with great .340 roms like ApeX, based on what was learned, to build super-roms on Gingerbread. Trick is, getting Gingerbread rooted. It's like Froyo all over again, except at present it's not reported that Gingerbread has been cracked/rooted.

So I think, on blurry roms like ApeX, you may see an auto-update notification. I'm currently on RubiX focused (blurless) so I won't.. Which suits me fine. I'd rather go Gingerbread once it's rooted, and I suspect that will take a while as in weeks.

And while I'm here.. Once again, awesome work on ApeX Fab! Bravo!

The THX sound is one of the things I love. It goes great with my Jedi Droid boot logo and Jedi Droids slicing the Apple wallpaper. I don't have to worry about sound though.

Wow, this thread has really died off. Hopefully someone can answer my question.

I really appreciate the built-in ad blocking feature in ApeX. Does anyone know what ad blocker it uses or what I can do to get the same functionality in Gingerbread once I try it?

Thanks.

Once GB has root...you can get adfree from the market.

Running the rooted Gingerbread now. Can't wait until Apex is updated to work on this OS. That will be THE BEST setup for the Droid X!

I want to try gingerbread, but I've seen mixed reviews about flashing directly from Apex. I have Apex 1.4, can I just wipe data & cache and flash the gingerbread ROM?

Or did you end up SBFing? I just recently updated my phone to Apex 1.4, I don't really feel like going through the whole SBF thing to upgrade :(

Thanks!

I did that route and it worked out fine for me (wipe data/cache and then load the rooted zip file)

Ok, I need help. I've never rooted anything but a beet or a potatoe so be gentle. I have downloaded the root zip file fabulous_ApeX_V1_4_zip and need help. do I copy it onto my droid x? I am assuming I Do a backup, but how, and will it give me a much better battery life than 6 hours?

thannks--Newbie

Hey man there are instructions on how to root your Droid X on various websites including droid-life.com. First you need to do that. then with the file you mentioned placed on the root of your sd card via astro file manager or computer you need to purchase dx bootstrap for 2 bucks from market. go into this app click the top button. then the bottom. it will reboot. using the volume keys scroll to apply update from sd card select this option with your camera button. scroll to select from sd card and click camera button. find the file mentioned above and select it with camera button. scroll to yes and select. boom it will flash your new custom rom. after its done hit back key and select reboot. and walah you have ApeX woo hoo.

these instructions can also be found via droid-life.
