What features do you want on the Evo 2?

No kickstand is very disappointing. Also, does anyone know if the camera scratches when you lay it down?

Holy cow did someone hack Blue Screen's account? Just about everything he posted was wrong. Front camera, kickstand, logos, netflix, port locations, etc. He said that during the announcement they would be elaborating on everything he was posting, plus showing even more stuff that he wasn't posting. I haven't seen anything new, and most of the stuff he posted about was either wrong or not even mentioned. If he really got a lot of stuff right back in the OG Evo launch days then someone may have hacked into his account. The real Blue Screen may not even know that he has been posting recently.

I hate to say it, but I am pretty disappointed with this Evo 3D. I did not expect features to be removed (kickstand) from what we already have.

Man really don't understand why they wouldn't give it stereo or "surround" speakers. The EVO 4g is one of the best looking phones ever IMO, the 3D is kind of hideous. And it being almost the exact same thickness as the original makes it look like old tech since most non-slider phones are thinner now. Guess it's all that 3D crap they had to pack in(probably why no kickstand also, couldn't make it fit).

There are a few things that I love about it, things on my "list of wants" for the next EVO.

1. 1gb RAM/more app storage. Original didn't have much room on the phone for apps at all even when app2sd came with Froyo. I'm on AOSP now so more room without all the Sense BS taking up space.

2. Higher resolution screen. Being overlooked. The only thing I prefer about the iPhone is higher resolution. So this is nice.

3. Processor..This thing is gonna fly. Was also disappointed with the EVO in that it could actually be laggy.

Do I recall correctly that he was the first to say the E3D had some memory tricks that only verified today?

Yeah you recall correctly there. still hoping hes the real deal. you saw my last line right maybe its true? lol anythings possible.

Though there are some big misses here(ports on top bottom only, kickstand, NFC...) and i'm hopeful that they still make it into the final product. only time will tell.

Beast of a phone in the end!!

If I remember correctly, he did the exact same thing last year with the original Evo. The most obvious things he got wrong, but all the details that nobody outside of HTC or Sprint could know he was right on.

Not unheard-of for marketing to put the swerve on r&d over user-obvious features, while r&d presents the real goodness internally. ;)

I posted this on another forum, so whoever's seeing both, I apologize.

The USB/HDMI port on the Evo 3D is an issue for me, because we can no longer simultaneously charge the phone & output to HDMI. This also then brings up the question, how long could we stream/output on a single charge?

The Evo was nearly perfect as is! All they needed to do was stuff in a dual-core processor, qHD screen & add NFC. That's all! If they wanted to go above & beyond, they could have improved the camera sensor, added additional mics for noise canceling & moved the speakers to the front of the phone (a la HD7).

One year ago while this event was going on, I was hanging on every tweet and drooling. There was no doubt I was going to buy it, off-contract to boot.

I'll likely end up getting this one. But I'm not even half as excited about it as I was the Evo.

HTC Hero to HTC EVO == rosie o'donnell to heidi klum
HTC EVO to HTC EVO3D == heidi klum to natalie portman. yea, natalie is hot...but in a different way, and doesnt knock your socks off like heidi does.

i guess thats the best way to describe how im feeling.

My Theory on the Kickstand, dont know if anyone made this point

If you compare the back of the old Evo to the new, with the addition of the new dual cam, the battery will now be further down on the phone, the same area where the last kickstand was mounted. Now there is no solid housing to mount the kickstand because of the large dual cams on the phone.

Im am not a fan of side charging. I have a Blackberry and it just makes it uncomfortable most of the time.

I watched the UStream live and an HTC rep said that there would be a USB -> USB AND HDMI splitter that would either come with the phone or be an accessory. So this is a non-issue.

Hope this helps!

So.

You lost your virginity with the Evo and really haven't looked closely enough at the new girl because you just caught a glimpse of her in the office.

Well, these things happen. :D

But srsly -ROSIE?!?!? :p

Right, but later on in that stream he went to another table where they had the microUSB/HDMI cable hooked up to a monitor & it was just a single cable. Who knows?

No kickstand built in but there will be a kickstand case.

Alright, I figured I might as well combine and condense what BlueScreen has said about the phone into this thread and compare it to what we actually have been told. I really want people to focus on the quote below:

BlueScreen said:
I remember the original EVO release date was publicly announced and we still had gold work left. It was unlimited OT for almost a month straight. I have to say we did understand what the fans wanted and the time line they wanted it in, but it was/is a product we believed in. I think most can agree we crammed in a good amount fun factor considering it was a year ago.

What BlueScreen said would be on the device:

  • HTC EVO 3D & 4G

  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

  • Sense UI 2.0

  • Kickstand – it will go into landscape on all window screens, beefier and contoured to the back side of the case, curved kickstand

  • Full HDMI Out

  • Dual Data Stream

  • Scorpion Chip Set is very OC friendly

  • Larger Battery (8am to 6pm under stress test and no need to plug in)

  • Front Facing Camera is 3mp

  • The screen is mainly just touch screen, there is no room for the HTC emblem or Sprint at the top of the device but there is still the EVOish metal grill.

  • Data ports and jacks are still located at the top and bottom

  • 1GB RAM will stay Dual Channel, until the need for Tri-Channel then ROM becomes RAM. So, it is classified as 4GB of ROM, physically speaking they are really RAM Silicon.

  • 4.3” QHD 3D Screen

  • Form Factor will be a bit smaller

  • EVO won’t be shipping with a boot loader lock

  • Bluetooth larger library

  • No FPS lock

  • Battery will be red

  • Dual LED Flash

BlueScreen said:
1) HTC EVO 3D will isolate twin cameras to produce the firsts 180 degree panoramic photo at 5mp resolution. (Option will be in sense UI)
2) HTC EVO will produce the first ever 10mp photo on cell phone by using what is called paralax photo capture (each camera will capture an image and over lay it to produce 10mp photo) (Once again tap on 10mp photo)
3) Light sampling will be independent of each CMOS sensor to produce what will be close to night vision capture (Night Owl)
4) EVO 3D Hollywood, EVO 3D is only device on the market with next generation Qualcomm processor's with built in DRM. EVO 3D will support all digital streaming content (Netflix, Hulu, and other independent sites with DRM subscriptions.)
5) YouTube 3D part of the EVO 3D Hollywood pack.
6) True 4G, EVO 3D will be the industry first (LTE+WimaX) device. Sprint has plans for all 4G devices to be backwards compatible and be able to support (Wimax+LTE) (Shift/Epic/EVO/etc.)
7) Will be the first none Nexus device to launch with Google 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
8) Worlds first qHD 3D display on a 4.3in screen (Pixel Density Classified)
9) Industry first dual channel 1gig DDRRAM and with active 4gig tri-channel ROM (5gig total Ram with unlimited ROM as SDcard will act as more like a HD drive)
10) That is just a few of the industry first that will be presented on EVO 3D launch.

BlueScreen said:
Big news that nobody is talking about is DLNA and DRM.
DRM: EVOtees have been clammering for Netflix, Hulu, and Blockbuster. You all know that it’s been slow going due to DRM issues. This will not be the case with EVO 3D. Scorpion chipset and some back door work not only enabled this, but polished to a point of being effortless. DRM validation is instantaneous.

DLNA: This technology has been out for some time, but I feel sense UI 2.0 has been able to put the polish it needs to shine. The DRM issue resolved, DLNA will not only allow for digital content to stream to EVO 3D, but to any DLNA certified HDTV/PC monitor/DLNA Mobile device. I am sure your asking what does that mean and how does it apply to us? (Example) Sitting in a local coffee shop, your friend is sporting HTC View tab and you HTC EVO 3D. You ask if your friend has seen this movie.(No) You say start up HTC Media Link and we can check out together. Both of you are watching the same movie on your "OWN" device having a cup of Joe.

HTC Media link will be incorperated in both View and EVO. So far we have tested and ran. 720p/1080p/BMP/GIF/JPEG/XVID/3GP/WMV/MPEG4/H.263/H.264 video formats and Audio: WMA/AAC/MP3/ACC+

Everything he posted that was announced at CTIA I will highlight in Red. If someone could help me out that would be appreciated.

Don't jump the gun and think he let us down. Reread quote at the top. EarlyMon also mentioned earlier that it is

hmm so looks like non of the first three that bluescreen stated was true. they did not mention anything about panoramic display. nor did they mention anything about using the 2x5mp to compress to 10mp pictures. nor did any night vision stuff was mentioned.

also no kickstand. HMM, and they totally forgot about my favorite ferrari red interior!
-I do have to agree with someone, why not include stereo surround sound like the touchpro2

Only that wasn't Engadgets source nor report. They do have some exclusive ones but then you'd see an engadget watermark on them. There's a "source" link at the end of every article. Their just re-reporting what BGR's inside source leaked to BGR. Also the apparent CTIA announcement schedule thing yesterday was from pocketnow.

Moving on it seems like Blue does work for HTC. As he just about comfirms himself he isn't involved with manufacturing and from the sound of it works on software and has an internal phone. Once its in Sprint's managements hands they can make several changes.

I already gave one example, HTC's Hero being modified for Sprints and whatever they've specified(And why HTC changed the red earpiece on the Evo when at release). They decided to give it a very bland corporate look. Another example is changing the HTC Diamond's unique back a few years ago to some rubber burgandy. Rest of the carriers released it mostly intact to original design.

Sprint was probably given the base phone and told HTC what they wanted tweaked. Namely they -HAVE- to have a bigass Sprint logo on the front. And if they have to put Sprint logo on one corner I bet they figure why not have HTC too.

I'd say its more Sprint's fault if you dislike the modifications.

So I'm reiterating something I stated like at late 7ish this morning. Top parts in response to dkortic(sp?) with the rest being the good stuff.

This mostly answers to anyone shouting out -lier- towards BlueMoon.

Now I have to admit from what I've seen there's dlna and usb but Micro hdmi port is out and there's a missing kickstand plus 1.3 front camera, not 3. Even if Sprint's heavily modified phones befpre after they get the base prototype from HTC this seems extreme. I'm hoping BlueMoon can clarify. Keep in mind I haven't really read this forum yet but its just a post thats anticipating community backlash.

id imagine they have different types.

All in all for such a big hoopla I really thought they would of brought the heat today but nope. they better have Netflix on this thing by release.

I'm thinking the reason they put the ports on the side now is b/c they couldn't have the kickstand and in turn to make up for it to allow for the dock clock they moved the ports.

This also begs to ask the question how could they fit all the stuff in there on BSOD's model since he clearly stated it had all this stuff. The way he described the kickstand made it seem more like the thunderbolts......

I have serious doubts about BlueScreen's credibility.

For those of you interested, the EVO 3D page on HTC's site is now live. Here's the link to the specs page:

HTC - Products - HTC EVO 3D - Specification

Looking at the webpage, another thing that BlueScreen's gotten wrong on the hardware front is the amount of ROM. It's listed as 1GB, not the 4GB, triple-channel ridiculousness to which he's attested.

So, perhaps rather than just highlighting in red the facts that he's seemed to have gotten correct, we might also choose a color (too bad red's already taken) to mark off the facts that he's blatantly missed:

I can start a list:

1. 1GB ROM (Not 4GB)
2. No kickstand
3. No LTE support
4. 1.3 mp front camera (Not 3 mp)
5. Maximum 5 mp 2D photo capture (Not the 10 mp stitching/combining)
6. No Carl Zeiss camera lens

A lot of other postings look suspicious too, but perhaps this is a good start

I don't know why but, I feel robbed. I have had an emotional fantasy attachment to the new EVO 3d and thinking that everything the original evo would be there or at least enhanced and improved got me excited! The kickstand was seldom used, but I find myself thinking about the times I did use it. On the coffee table or not to be descriptive but on my throne I would find myself kicking it up as a speakerphone or media tool. I will not carry around a portable stand. Is that a deal breaker, not yet. Now, if the charger port and hdmi port are combined, this is over for me. I finally had a house where all phones used the same chargers and car chargers. The new screen and processors are awesome. 3D is cool, but I honestly would trade that out for a more pro model phone and not some gimmick thing that may run the course or not. I returned a thunderbolt phone that was very nice and now I am wondering if I made a mistake?!?
