Tablet Wish

I wish that developers would put two USB ports on a tablet to connect devices. I want to attach a card reader and an external hard drive to a tablet and then copy from the card to the hard drive.

I am a photographer and would like to back up my memory cards when traveling and this seems such a simple and practical application. Just make the tablet hardware capable.

Couldn't you do that with one usb port and a micro sd card slot? I know maybe you don't use a micro sd card for your camera but I just thought if you did...that would be a way to transfer data.

There are portable USB/Firewire hard-drives with sdhc & compact flash slots that allow you to transfer photos directly to the hard drive off-site. All you do is pop in a card and hit an OTG copy button.

The problem with using something like a tablet/phone is the big file size. I shoot RAW and all my photos are 20-25 MB each. One photo shoot can take up 200-400 Gigabytes. It would be painfully slow to move all those files through a low-power host device running on an ARM processor.

Also, some cameras allow you to copy off from the camera to a connected device.

Most of the Pro/Semi Pro SLRs use larger formats. I have a separate one that takes a card and copies but dedicated ones are expensive for the amount of space they have. Also, true backup is at least two copies.

I would also like to view pictures on the larger screen. One port with a hub would work but that is more stuff to carry.

The Flytouch2 or Flytouch3 has 2 USB ports!
I understand that the USB ports also support OTG HDD but has to be very low power ones as the tablet power is more limited.

I regularly use ASTRO file manager to do multiple moves/copies between locations.
