What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

That was awesome. I don't see myself using a Tablet for anything, so I probably won't get one in the near future, but one reason I can see people getting an iPad over other Tablets such as the Xoom or the upcoming EVO View is that you can get them without data plans, where as the new top of the line Android tablets have to have a plan (from what I have seen; please correct me other wise and point me in the direction of where I can get one without a plan).

I know you can get a WiFi only Xoom. I believe it also matches the price of the WiFi only iPad of the same capacity.

The Android tablets released thus far are nothing to get excited about. The 7" form factor is cool but overall the Android tablet market is not even close to mature yet. The Android fanboys should stick to the defending against the iphone fanboys :)

I personally think the Xoom is significantly better than the iPad 2.

And that's the FIRST Tablet released with honeycomb... Can you imagine what a tablet would be like with the quad core tegra 3?

Yeah, let's take into consideration that Honeycomb is the first attempt at creating a tablet OS. It seems to be well ahead of their first mobile phone OS. So if it matures anywhere near as quickly as their mobile OS did then it'll be pretty serious in no time.

I've noticed a pretty substantial amount of Apple Animosity on here. Apart from posts, there are numerous avatars with Android logos taking a whizz on Apple logos, etc.

Where exactly does that all come from? I've gotta say, I've got an android phone but I've also got an iPod touch, and the GUI on the iPod is just sooo intuitive. I recognize that we've all Android folks here, but I'm not sure how you could pick up an iPhone or iPod and find it ergonomically or technically flawed in some way. Yes, Android does some things better and that's why I have one, but it seem to me that the better marketing message is, "standing on the shoulders of geniuses, but doing it better" as opposed to "Apple sucks."

Thoughts?

My thoughts?

I was tempted by the iphone when I first saw one up close. But I personally dislike the way Apple insists on complete control over everything when it comes to their hardware.

I also think the iphone (all variants of it) is VASTLY overpriced. Why spend all that money on an iphone when you can get an Android phone, which can do pretty much all useful things as well as an iphone (and in many cases better) for a far lower cost?

While I wouldn't go as far as displaying the Android wizzing on Apple avatars, I do have a dislike of Apple as I think the company, and Steve Jobs in particular, are arrogant beyond belief, and their reaction to the iphone 4 signal debacle (hold it differently) just confirmed that they care little for the people who do pay excessive amounts of cash to buy their hardware. In this respect, I think Apple are far far worse than Microsoft, who are often the targets of jibes in the tech world.

Just my opinion though!

Good point, though all of the previous Android OSs helped them get to that "first" tablet OS.

iphone is simple to use.. it is designed for general smartphone use.

android is easy.. but can be more complex ..if you want the extra customization.

iphone = chewing gum and walking..
android = pick the favor of gum, the size of the piece so that it is your favorite package in your pocket...then from then on chew and walk.

hahaha LOL...

double the flavor ..double the fun!

I just hate how everyone says iphone is easier to use.. which is true!!!!
it just makes them assume the opposite is with android..

but it does not make android... as hard as programming a VCR!!!!
or setting the blinking clock on your microwave. which is easy too!!!
android is easy too!!!! just has more to set if you want to set them.

Eek. My first day on this forum and I'm already stumbling into some massive nerd rage. It wasn't unexpected, though.

The thing most people who engage in these debates fail to realize or admit is that both Android and iOS devices are popular for a reason. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. They have both provided us with features and benefits that have changed the way we lead our everyday lives. However, at the end of the day, they're still just devices, and not worth fighting a holy war over. Android fans need to admit that Apple is always going to have a place in the market. They make an incredibly sleek, well-designed, intuitive, and polished device, and that's going to appeal to a great many people. On the same side of the coin, iPhone fans need to realize that Android isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Android devices have an appeal to the more technical users who prefer to tinker with their devices and prefer to customize them in whatever way they see fit, and have the time, knowledge, and resources to do so.

That's what annoys me the most about the enthusiast community. Many people will see others who have opinions that differ from their own, and are hell-bent on calling for a jihad against the unwashed heathens. It's ridiculous, to be honest. I happen to see the strengths and weaknesses of both platforms, and have a slightly higher opinion of iOS devices than Android devices. However, my opinion of both is still quite high. The nerd-raging fanboy jihadists on both sides of the fence, though...the world could wake up all day to find all of them gone, and it would be a much better place.

i of course agree with the point you're making (both devices having their strengths), but while sleek, intuitive and polished, i certainly wouldn't call the iphone4 "well-designed", what with the whole antenna-gate thing and the fact that a sharp cornered glass phone isn't particularly durable
on the other hand i think your assessment of android users being nerds who like to tinker with their device is close to a couple of years obsolete

I love tech I read about it go on forums such as this and listen to podcasts about it. I understand the hatred on both ends however my view is whatever works for u. I personally use all of what I own for various things my windows laptop self explanatory I can't afford a Mac. My iPod classic hold my oversized music library and is used for storage and car. My touch stays mainly in home for music and radio before my smartphone was used for that my android is used for everything sometimes music sometimes podcasts games texting Internet and oh yeah an occasional call. My newest addition my Verizon clearance of the iPad 1 is now used for reading music games surfing anything I don't have to lug my laptop out for my point....why can't everyone just enjoy all these products I think its exciting to just wait and watch what's coming next and in the meantime enjoy both os equally

Personal preferences are not limited only to device capabilities, UI or the apps that support it.
It is also depends on our view of the company behind it, its goodwill and PR. From this perspective, Apple has a negative image for me - arrogant, control freaks, overcharging for their products. Since I have a freedom of choice, why would I go to their shop instead of the competitors?

I agree with you on every point, but I have a slightly different take on it.

Apple's company culture (I know several engineers that work there) is filled with the idea that they (Apple Employees) are superior to others. This is created and fostered by Steve Jobs primarily, and has been the hallmark of the company since day one. This is an attitude that I strongly dislike.

It's publicly displayed by Steve himself at the drop of a hat.

For example: the first words out of his mouth, when asked about the antenna issue on the iPhone 4 was a very condescending "you're holding it wrong". Translated "you idiots', don't you know how to hold an iPhone?"

Stop and think. The correct response from a responsible CEO that appreciates his customers, would have been, "this has just been called to our attention. We are going to look into it immediately."

That said, the reason I'm a very avid Apple customer is the product.

I'm not about to let one jerk CEO, prevent me from using some good products. I remember when Jobs was a great guy, but then the success, money and power went to his head and it got so big, he's really obnoxious now.

Notice I said some good products. I evaluate each product on its own. If it works for me, then I buy it, if it doesn't I don't.

Therefore unlike many of the Apple Faithful, I'm not one of them. I don't buy everything Apple. I also don't limit myself to Apple only. I have some great PC laptops running Windows 7 as well as some great Android phones.

The bottom line, is I'm a tech enthusiast and not married to any company or platform. I buy what I like and what works for the task at hand. :)
