Help Charge Thunderbolt with OG Droid charger?

I upgraded to the Thunderbolt from the OG Droid, and I'm loving it!

Of course, the battery life on this beast is pretty measly right now, and if I forget to plug my phone in at night, I'm a dead man at work the next day.

Even plugging the TBolt into my computer doesn't seem to charge the battery at all.

Has anyone used the Droid's wall charger to charge their Thunderbolt?

I don't want anything bad to happen to my new phone, and I'm wary of using something that's not built for the TBolt without knowing for sure that all will be well.

I use the OG Droid charger sometimes and it works fine. No damage yet. If you look on the chargers themselves, they both have almost the exact same output. I don't think it should do any harm, mine hasn't been hurt yet, and I switch up fairly often. My OG Droid charger is in my travel bag, and I'm away more than i'm home.

Micro USB is Micro USB. It's a standard. There will always be some minimum level of compatibility between chargers. The rate of charge may not be optimal but it will always work.

I'm still using 2 year old blackberry chargers throughout home and car and have with 2 other android devices and now tbolt. No ill effects whatsoever.

Question, you say you cannot charge your phone via pc?

I do this every single night since my laptop is always downloading something, and it allows my phone to be closer to me if I need it...

Your particular USB port may not be putting out very many milli-Amps. The voltage will be correct, but there may not be enough current to noticeably charge your phone.

Looks like I'll be bringing my Droid charger to work tomorrow.

@Vehtemas: Yeah, it's weird. Just this morning I had my TBolt plugged into my PC with Charge Only settings, and my battery was still draining, even though the lightning-bolt/battery icon is present.

I'm going to re-mount and select Disk Drive mode and see if there's a difference.

How old is your pc? I believe older machines didn't have a power spec for usb, but most newer machines should have no problem charging for you.

This is pretty strange.

When I have the phone plugged in to my PC and have it set to disk-drive mode, it charges as well.

When I have it set to charge only, it shows the charging indicator up top, but seems to be losing its charge instead. In other words, it isn't charging at all.

I have a fairly new Dell XPS 410, so I'm not sure that has anything to do with it.

Can anyone try to reproduce this weirdness?

I'm no pc expert, so I'm just going to guess that when you have it in drive mode, the pc knows it's there and adjusts voltage accordingly and when it's in charge only mode, it's not recognized by your dell and adjusts power as needed, which is to say none to low.

Charging via PC is just a trickle charge. There is no way it should take the place of a wall charger.

I use my moto droid car charger with my TB. No problems yet. I'm glad I didn't have to buy a new one for this phone.
