Froyo EC05 (DI18 users - Install instructions post 39)!

I've had enough. 14 years on Sprint and this is just an inexcusable disaster -- especially after they had the nerve to initially charge an extra $50 for a phone they can't support.

Sent a message to Sprint support. Either trade straight-up for a Nexus S or wave goodbye. The Epic 4G is a lost cause, no matter how good the hardware. After the ATT-TMO deal, Sprint just can't afford to lose any more subscribers. Mind boggling.

Say what you will about Apple, they do *not* have these support problems, nor do they impose crapware on you. The only alternative on Sprint is the Nexus S, where it's straight Google. Everything else is at the mercy of Sprint and the handset manufacturer.

Wow! Really? Do your research before you post about how "apple, does not have problems nor impose crapware". I guess you forgot about antennagate. You know, the issue where apples iphone4 couldnt retain signal strength for how many months? And every iphone (every phone actually) will always have whatever bloatware is provided by carrier. Att as well as verizon put their stuff on their iphones.

And dont blame it on sprint. Do i agree this update is lackluster? Sure i do, as most of us probably can agree. But to cry that "wahh i'm gonna leave sprint" is a bit much! You need a music widgit? "There's an app for that", so just download one. If the phone is unacceptable for you now, then just get another phone. The evo is still a strong phone in sprints lineup, their froyo version is up to par. Me personally, i'm waiting for my evo 3d. Until then, i will deal with my refurbished epic (that cuts off on occasion, media volume is lackluster along with the checkered browser is a PITA since the froyo update, and needs a battery pull at least once a day) patiently and enjoy it as much as i can.

Sprint is saying that I got a bad OTA update and that's causing some of my problems. However, the store does not have the file for EC05 for them to reload the stock ROM. Am I able to reflash my phone back using ODIN to DI18 then from there do the EC05 update and basically do the same thing?

Or does anyone have the EC05 files so I can just reload my ROM that way?

TIA.

Yes, you can flash back with Odin and retry.

Spoke to a knowledgeable guy at the repair store. He said they're doing it in slower waves to reduce traffic in the repair stores since they are having to fix upgrades. He said they have been able to do so but Sprint is starting and stopping the push to see how each batch goes. He fully expected all phones to get it besides DK28, but the timetable has expanded and that it is going in version order of DI18, then EB13 when DI18 push is nearly complete. Don't know how true it is but fits the pattern we see.
Not a "knowledgeable" guy. They currently have no working method to upgrade from c13 to e05

This is Sprint's fault. I'm holding Sprint accountable if this isn't fixed.
Nah it is Samsung. Samung has for YEARS the worst reputation in post release support of phones/. It is well earned. We who bought were just fooling ourselves.

I happen to know for a fact that with this entire update Sprint was insisting that Samsung fix GPS problems that were present on every Epic (assistance cache isues) and that Samsung denied it.

I think Sprint, Samsung, and Google have their own portions of this debacle that we can thank them for...

No, I'm not rooted. I'm running Froyo EB13 that Sprint pushed to my phone, breaking it. And I looked on the Sprint Forums. Apparently I'm not alone. In fact they are discusing the fact that there's maybe 1 customer who had EB13 who received the update who has posted in the forum.

Grrrrr! If I see another, "If you don't have an iPhone, well, you don't have an iPhone." commercial again, I'm going to scream! Even with all of these issues I'd rather not have a stupid iPhone!!!

Ohhh. Your running EB13. Thats why you haven't gotten the OTA update yet. I keep reading they pushed an OTA for EB13 to EC05 and then i read they haven't.

Oh and read post 922 here:

Sprint Community: 3/21 - Samsung Epic Maintenance Release...

A Sprint Rep. just acknowledged that NONE of the people stuck with EB13 got the OTA update as was promised.
Of course they had to say that eventually because even though those are third party Public relations people that can be used to spin BS, at a certain point, outright lies cause legal issues and other blowback.
As I said they don;t even have an installer package that works with eb13, so it isnt a quesiton of a few getting, stepped deployment, etc, no one person with eb13 has gotten ec05 ota.

Can you please limit your posts to helpful things. After 10 posts we are aware your version isn't working and that you haven't gotten the new update. Beyond that you're trolling. We can't force your update to happen. We can help you with Odin if you would like. If I have to read another post about how Sprint broke your phone I will report you for trolling. It is not helpful. Please call Sprint or Samsung's consumer affairs division if you are looking to complain. They are they proper channel.

I got my epic 4g about 3 weeks ago and I just got the update message. I have rooted this phone and wanted to know if it is safe to update for rooted epics. Thanks in advance!
All ROOTING is done at your own risk.

Now with that said go ahead and update but keep in mind if you update a rooted a phone and it fails then you will not be able to take it to sprint to get it fix. I would unroot the phone then update

Just called my local Sprint Store and they said all the Epics they are selling now are sticking with 2.1 and that these users will NOT get prompted for a 2.2 download.

They said there are plenty of bugs with the download so they've stopped it until further notice.

I wanted to buy this phone today now that 2.2 is out, but it looks like back to the drawing board or I'll buy an EVO Shift. I'm a Moment user and I've already been through this BS with them.

Does this info correspond with what you guys are being told?
