Root One Stop Shopping for Fascinate Kernels

It probably won't unless you're doing 3d gaming, I'm guessing it locked up going down the hall/up the stairs?

Some phones don't agree with OC. I just ran quadrant twice since you mentioned it, no locks.

FWIW the difference is barely perceptible.

You nailed it. Locked on the stairs.

The difference between OC and standard? I'd imagine it isn't much different, I had just never tried running one before, so I thought I'd try it out.

Welcome back, Saps. Thanks for explaining SetCPU. I've always known of it, but never used it. Quick question: I flashed the EC10 OC UV Voodoo EnderstSpecial and installed SetCPU. I opened the app, and it was already set to conservative and max at 1200...so do I do anything? Or am I overclocked just simply by flashing this?
If you notice on the very first screen of SetCPU, there are 2 sliders. Now that you installed the OC kernel, the slider on the top should be slightly off the highest setting (and set to 1000000 or something like that). If you move the slider all the way to the right (and set it to 12000000 or whatever) that should enable your phone to hit 1200mhz. (At least I think, as that's what I did.)

The phone is set on Conservative by default on boot unless you have the check box checked that says "Set on Boot" and the drop down is set to something other than Conservative.

Edit: Nevermind. There was an additional page I didn't see. Whoops.

Mine locked up eventually while playing a game, worked fine for a long time though. Last time Nemesis started making OC kernels, it took a few revisions before one was totally stable for me.

Yeah its quite common to lock going up the stairs in Quad. To be honest I actually ran one quad test and I also locked using nem's kernel but you know what Im still using the kernel because for real world use its stable for me. Its been a day and night I didnt charge it last night either and Im still at 40% battery. So pleased to have UV kernels again.

Now admittedly imnuts now has kernels out with greater UV but since I had already re-set batt stats with nem's I figured I owed it a full charge cycle.
Many people will choose the massive UV for the maximum battery life and thats fine and good. I myself often run imnuts kernels back on 2.1. Its true its hard to tell the difference using the 1.2Ghz but every now and again sometimes it just does seem a tad snappier. Bottom line for me is if the battery lasts a day Im content. So if I get thru a day with 40% battery remaining with and OC/UV versus 50% with just a massive UV its less of a selling point for me since both got me thru the day with plenty to spare.
There always has to be some testing of different kernels especially when either OC and/or UV is involved. Find the best one for your phone and go with it

Mine actually made it through the 2 quadrants I ran just fine. But eventually after an hour or so of gaming it gave up the ghost out of nowhere.

I am also one for whom the battery increase from mega-UV isn't a big deal. I charge every night and have a spare battery in any case. I'll take the OC for sure. Maybe Nemesis will do some revisions like he did with the old OTB to make the kernels more stable.

Yeah Im sure nem will tweak and like you said if I can get 14-18 hours thats all I need.

Very thorough, Thank You. i think i might be addicted to flashing my Fascinate. :D
Its a common addiction. Good news is there is a cure....more flashing :p.

Actually the temporary cure is a semi-bork and then you get gun-shy for awhile, but that usually wears off ;)

Yeah at its worst I know guys like myself and nitsuj17 and others would be flashing various themes, kernels and whatnot 5-10 times a day at least

OP updated to add nemesis2all's new uber kernel.

Boys and girls this is the best kernel I've ever used period. In combo with the voltage control app [free in market]. You basically get to pick your own OC and degree of UV. Im currently running a top speed of 1.3Ghz [1.4 is finicky on my phone :(] but I also get the benefits of having all my steps 1200 and down uv to the degree I choose so -100mv on the bottom steps for instance. My highest recommendation.

1.3 makes my phone freeze up lol what're you setting your uv to on 1000-1300?

Here is a copy pasta from my xda post :

I'll let the pictures do the talking. Please note on the steps though not shown my 100Mhz voltage is the same as the 200Mhz.

Also nklenchik I tried mimicking imnuts straight uv values with -100mv at everything and something was amiss. As always YMMV but I believe some of my steps could be dropped by another -25mv maybe even -50mv on the lowest two I just haven't made the time to test each one individually to find the perfect combo yet. The voltages above for me are 100% stable. I would judge this to have for me on par battery life with nem's 1.2Ghz with -50uv, its not quite as good as imnuts -100mv but then again Im also gaining the extra 30% in top end clockspeed. This really is the best of both worlds in terms of performance and battery life.

I have to ask, how are you testing stability? I was using this for a while, but I felt like even at 1200 mhz my phone froze up occasionally. But at ridiculous times. I can run benchmarks fine without a problem, but while running pandora, and trying to open another app the phone froze up on me.

Mainly how do you test each step for stability?

Once I had the basic pattern then anytime I adjusted a steps value down by -25mv I'd run a few benchies as well as some scrolling thru the 3d gallery which for me is a classic freeze point on a unstable OC/UV. For instance, I was originally using -25mv at 1300Mhz but this froze on me once during 3d gallery scrolling so I moved it up an increment. Its likely I will re-try going back down 25mv again.
Also I often just let the phone sleep and make sure it wakes up. I do use the 100Mhz setting although many dont finding they cannot wake up from it. I'm really quite pleased with the set up I have listed above. Since my phone is often at rest the low -100mv 100Mhz values really help battery life. Part of my ability to declare stability is the fact that for over 24 hours now on this kernel and the only voltage adjust I made up was that 1300Mhz increase of 25mv.

Originally I went nuts and had -150mv at 100 and 200 and -100 for all steps 400-1000Mhz but something wasnt right there so I went to the current set up. Now it will be a matter of time dialing it in perfect.
