Okay, The glass on the TB sucks!

I have never had a broken screen on any phone i have used. This phone treated no different. Case. Handle with care. Wipe screen with soft cloth. The same cloth i use on my $700.00 Camera lens. But tonight i was online. I swept the screen up and felt something on my nail. I look closer and it is a hairline crack. I honestly can not think of any way this could have happened. I have never dropped it, or banged anything on the glass.

I turned off the phone to take a pic and send it to Wirefly for a replacement. I see tons of swirl marks on the screen. I cant feel them, But they are all over the glass. Swirl marks! I grab the Fascinate and look at the screen closely. Not a single swirl. Man, These phones are not cheap and if i am going to get a cheap product then I can not justify the cost or a commitment to a plan. I am so pissed! I was loving this phone, But the quality has to be there. Its not. The glass is a huge issue!

I refuse to be denied a replacement or my cash back. I am pretty sure there is a 14 day return policy from Wirefly. It isnt their fault, But they gotta make this right, One way or another. Im so bummed.

It has nothing to do with the screens. I used micro fiber cloths before, and always, it was a big mistake. They attract way to much small particles like sand (sand can tear through any glass easily), or other things that can cause hair line scratches. I had gotten a hair line scratch on my Droid from using my micro fiber, and under a micro scope, I saw what caused it....(believe or not)...a jello grain. Found out the hard way you should just use a cloth shirt because it attracts small particles far less from my own research.

My incredible has been naked over a year, wiping with a cloth shirt and not a mark or scratch.

In time, more of you who are using the device naked will find scratches all over this thing. The glass is of average quality at best. Get an exchange, put a screen protector on, and resume the love. I have had the bolt less than 2 weeks, only used a cloth shirt to wipe, and have a small scratch on mine. It's just not high quality glass - but a screen protector is a easy and cheap solution to HTC's profit maximizing build quality of the thunderbolt. It's not always ignorance or laziness that bring about these issues by the way. A lot of people seem to like the feel of this type of phone with out a screen protector, case, ect.. But it seems as though in the instance of this screen on this phone - put some clothes on it.

I'll chime in....to the OP, yes my man you are right 100%! HTC's glass is not the best available, not by a long shot. However, scratches so happen, and they even happen on Gorilla glass. So the forum members that are screaming Gorilla glass, and the TB sucks, and this and that, get a grip. It's possible to scratch a gorilla glass screen, my first Fascinate wound up with a phantom scratch? However these things happen, you prob got a real faulty one, i'd do a swap and try again, but that's up to you.

As to the micro fiber cloth debate, good ones, like the ones for camera lens are ok, however, you have to take a lint roller and clean the cloth about every 3 days. Believe me, it works! And yes, you can use a nice soft T shirt, usually an old hanes or jocky T shit works the best. I tend to go the micro fiber route.

Good luck my man, hope it all works out.

sorry about the cras post above... i'm thinking of getting a shitty screen protector now. i dislike those this as much as phone holsters. just my opinion.

are there any privacy ones that arent viewable from a side glance? thats when i'll get one.

i would take it back and get a replacement and do a screen protector from the go. might cost u $35 restocking fee, but worth it in my mind

upon looking on the VZW site, i see this about said screen protectors:

The screen protector is small than the actual screen. Does not reach on both sides and bottom, one side is rounded corner and the supposed bottom part is square corner. Does not cover the Home, Menu, Back & Search buttons. (Does not cover the fit the entire screen)

i get the protector not covering the bottom buttons, but the sides? anybody have these?

They are better for a stop gap but do not cover the whole screen as you mention. I got them on day one just to have something on the screen. spend a couple more bucks and get the SGP Ultra Clear. Really nice and worth the cash.

I just recently got the VZW protectors. I actually think it is a pretty decent protector. I do wish it covered up the capacitative buttons at the bottom, but the sides are just the right size. If you use a case, you will find that the protector is just the right width.

I actually put mine on a tad closer to one side than the other (just by 1/32 of an inch). That side kept getting pushed up by the VZW high gloss case I put on, so I used some scissors to trim just a hair off the side that was too close and it is perfect now.

I used my HTC Incredible for 6 months w/o a screen protector - never got one scratch. I decided to go ahead with the VZW protectors and see how I liked them. So far, I think thye are pretty good.
