HTC Sense, Do you love it or Do you feel Sense is old and played out?

wow after thinking about it, i used to try and get launchers that were similar to sense.. its looked cool to me. moto blur? seriously? anyway, i came from a OG D1 so vanilla is always my sweet spot, where u cant really go wrong!! LP is nice, ADW is nice and on and on... 4x5 layout of icons is so so so so so boring to me. i would try an iphone but feel i would get somewhat bored of it after about a day or 2.

i LOVE the sense layout. just hope when i do get around to rooting, i wont be swayed away.

I know that sense use to lag but on this phone I see none. I love sense, especially the widgets. Though there are replacement for some, the replacements are not usually as good. And with addition of skins, I'm really liking Sense over other launchers. Now if Sense can get to the point of adding customiztion to the actual laucher I will be in heaven.

I am such a n00b it hurts, but could someone explain to me what exactly Sense is? I'm new to the whole scene and I'm totally lost. :/

Sense is HTC's user interface. You're using Android 2.2 but it doesn't look like Samsung's 2.2 phones, or Motorola's 2.2 phones because they all have a different user interface. The other UI you'll see/hear of is the "vanilla" Android interface.

Lack of common sense in latest version:

- Got rid of being able to turn off the ringer with a click and press. What genius now made it a widget I have to enable somewhere and toggle?

- No space after spelling corrections?

Things are starting to decline at HTC. It's showed itself in other areas...

Okay. Kinda getting the hang of it. I downloaded LauncherPro so I could have a home screen go to landscape. Would it be terrible to get rid of Sense? And if I do, would I be able to get it back?

The only way to "get rid of Sense" is to root your phone, and install a custom ROM that lacks Sense.

If you are using LauncherPro, Sense is still there in the background, you just can't see it. If you ever uninstall LauncherPro, you will see it again.
There may be a way to disable LauncherPro without uninstalling, but I haven't ever been able to figure out a way.

I think sense is the best skin out there, by far. That being said, I still use LP+. I dislike the sense launcher with a passion, but I like certain elements of sense. When ever I run AOSP or CM7 I always feel like I'm missing something. I prefer a senseless ROM that has most sense stripped that way it's not all AOSP and not all sense, a nice happy medium.

I agree. Sense Launcher sux. But I like Sense widgets.

In the end I'll probably be using LP+ again.

I personally love Sense, but I do mix it up with ADW, LauncherPro and Go Launcher every now and then. It's nice to have options to keep you from getting too bored. I had JUST rooted my Incredible before getting the T-Bolt, and some of the awesome feature I got with root I have stock now. I can't wait for the next Sense, though.

I was able to try that SPB 3D shell and hated it! Way too cluttered for my liking.

really, the only thing i don't like is how the contacts are set up and also the music player is a bit counterintuitive. i do like the last few apps being in the status bar, as well as the polish in the main settings menu. also, the skins and widgets are great but i installed adw ex since the sense widgets don't really increase productivity as much as polished, cool factor. the contacts aren't organized very well (imo) but it doesn't matter since you can find who you want right from the dialer, and the music player is very polished but can still be counterintuitive :/

I like the Sense framework stuff...like People, the keyboard (I know there are alternatives out there that are similar), widgets, etc, but I just don't care for the launcher. Sense does look nicer compared to vanilla Android...just more polished, until I get ICS. I use Beautiful Widgets and Launcher Pro for the customizable, scrolling docks. If Sense had a customizable dock, even if it didn't scroll like LP, I would use that all the time. I'd still use it even if it meant giving up landscape mode.

A customizable dock is coming with Sense 3.6 for those phones getting the ICS update (like the TBolt) and Sense 4.0 for the One series.
