SwiftKey vs Sywpe.

I'll chime in.. I LOVED swype when I first got my phone, but over time it just stopped worked. It is probably wrong 90% of the time now. I've tried to reset it, and tweak it.. but it just doesn't work. I downloaded a free iphone-type keyboard, that I enjoy.. but there was no word prediction since it was the free version. I downloaded Swiftkey the other day when Amazon had it for free, and I've had nothing but luck with it since my download. It really is physic lol. So for the record, I love Swiftkey!

My experience has been similar to ohhnoregrets.

I started out with Swype, because it was new to me and pretty cool. However I never really got comfortable with Swypes input method, not to mention I wasn't thrilled with the accuracy.

I've had Swiftkey for the last month or so and absolutely love it. The main keyboard is much more functional than stock. In addition to the text predictions, you can use long presses to type the alt symbols you would normally have to hit alt to access. The duration of the long press is also customizable. This is a huge time saver for me.

I found a lot of words were difficult to type, even if I made an effort to hold my finger over the letter longer just to really indicate it.

Example, trying to type purple always came out "people." Until I I swirled my finger over the u and r. It's not perfect but I like it better than using the normal keyboard much better.

i also just downloaded swiftkey and am enjoying it more than Swype, simply because of how annoying swype became.

I do like swype, just hate how it adds words to dictionary that were spelling errors and how i get a stupid tutorial/hint pop up everytime i select a word from the list.

now if there was a hybrid of swype and swiftkey made i would be in love.

I am a huge swype guy. While it's not perfect, when I have to type out a new word that isn't in the dictionary it is a good reminder how it sucks to type e v e r y letter.

If they made a desktop type swype deal that was just built into the desk I would ditch a keyboard forever. I mean really, don't we think swype is the future of text entry? Be a part of the solution. (full disclouse: I don't work for swype) lol

Typing on a full keyboard is 10x faster than swyping

Its all about what you get used to. I started swyping in Sept when I got the SF. After a few months I tried SwiftKey and SmartKeyPro and a few others. Im back to swype now. Over time you either get it or you don't. I can even one hand swpye but darn well. Its not for everyone though. Thats the beauty of options and choices.

Certainly, I don't really sit and type long emails/letters etc so WPM is not all that important for me. I'd rather have the desk space open and I hate keyboard trays.

This system would also allow you to touchscreen on it instead of using a mouse too; maybe it'd be better to have a touchscreen monitor anyway. IDK, I'm not a details guy, somebody just cut me a check for my idea and I'll be on my way. ;)

wait..why is swype and swiftkey being compared? i just went and purchased it and its nothing like swype..its completely different...i dont get it?!? its like a regular keyboard..am i missing something....
I don't think the reason of the post was to say that Swiftkey is like Swype, but rather to compare the two input methods. You are correct though - SK is NOTHING like Swype, which isn't a bad thing. SK is a genius lol.

I was using swype since day 1 of my SF. I thought is was the virtual keyboard that was driving me insane and I couldn't type. Just switched to SK and loving it. Thank God because I was ready to throw this Android out the window and go find a BB for my emails and texts. SK saved my sanity ! :)
