Any reason why i SHOULDN'T get a Nexus S?

I take battery criticism with a grain of salt. When the Hero came out everyone also complained about its battery life, but mine was fine. Same with the EVO. There's 2 guys at my work who complain about their EVO battery and 3 others who have no issues. Its all about usage and how often you have your phone checking for email, weather, facebook updates, etc. If you set everything right you can get more out of your battery. Just my $.02

I'm just saying Wimax is a battery killer. It's a known scenario and if the nexus S just gets through a day now how much do you think Wimax will drain

I tend to agree...some people are constantly on their phone and the display is usually the biggest drain on the battery, so having it on alot will drain the battery faster. It's those users who complain the most about poor battery life, and I don't blame them.

That kind of makes my point...what good is a smartphone that can do all those updates, use wifi, bluetooth, play video, etc., if you have to disable half of the features to get decent battery life?

I've said it before, I think the manufacturers are focusing too much on thin and not enough on battery life. Every single review talks about how thin a new phone is, and how light it is. A few extra millimeters and milligrams to get another 80-100% of battery life in the phone is well worth it to me. I'm not talking about fat heavy phones, I'm talking about a very small amount that you wouldn't notice except on paper or in side by side comparisons. Seriously, as an example is the iPhone 3Gs really that much "fatter" than an iPhone 4 in actual use?

I recently picked up the Motorola Atrix and although I'm a bit disappointed in the performance (Moto firmware is slow and Blur widgets are ugly), I'm also saddened by the fact that it has one of the largest batteries out there today (1930mAH), yet it still only lasts 5-6 hours of display time. My HTC Desire I used prior has a 1450mAH battery and lasts 4 hours of display time. So basically they're the same when it comes to battery/hardware performance ratio. I was hoping the Atrix would have a much more efficient chipset even with the dual-core processor and the larger battery would give it a good 8 hours or more of display time.

So that's why I'm here...I'm considering returning the Atrix and getting a Nexus S when it gets released here in Canada in the coming weeks. But if battery life, GPS, and WiFi are all weak, then I'm not interested.

My $.01 (due to taxes!).

Tempted to buy one, just got rid of my HTC Desire, looking for something a little newer...

Very tempting the Nexus S is. Hmm will i be downgrading? OR is it the right move to make:rolleyes:
I'm about to upgrade from Desire as well and since today I saw an announcement that Nexus S is coming to Canada, so I'm deciding between the Nexus S and Desire HD. So far:

Nexus S - 4.0" AMOLED, vanilla Gingerbread and updates directly from Google, 16GB storage, 5MP camera, 1GHz Hummingbird with 512MB ram

Desire HD - 4.3 SLCD, HTC Sense HD Froyo (should get Sense Gingerbread soon) 1.5GB storage with microSD slot up to 32GB, 8MP camera, 1GHz Snapdragon with 768MB ram

So far the AMOLED and exclusive updates is the advantage on the Nexus while Desire HD has better camera, SD slot and more ram.

NFC is still in it's infancy in the US but it has potential to be a big plus. I read about an app that uses the NFC chip to inventory mass transit fare cards. Google is installing a bunch of POS terminals in San Francisco and NYC, presumably to let you pay with Google Checkout by tapping your Nexus S.

Bah, just another way for the Illuminati and the New World Order to take over the world. I'll pass on that bit of technology

It is a very good phone but make sure that you remember that the new tegra 2 processors are coming out soon and they will be awesome!

Not really until Google releases the next version of android also known as ice or ice cream. sure it will be great overclocking but it will always be unused potential until google put out that next update that allows for dual core acceleration or whatever its called

No expandable storage.

As some one who has never had a phone with out a memory card slot , I can't imagine a phone with out one .

Whats your thoughts on this , does the lack of this useful option stick in your side like a thorn, do you miss this option . Can you live with out it ,how do you cope , for me this phones got it all - except expandable storage :(

I'm not a typical smartphone user (code for I'm old as dirt), but I only put about 4 gigs on my iphone 3G/8GB. I never really felt the need to carry around more than a few hundred songs at any one time. I created several playlists, and would just swap them out as the mood would strike me.

I also didn't carry many videos or photos. But 16 GB is a fairly stout amount of memory if you manage it right.

Good luck with your decision! It's a great phone!

I had few phones with memory card slot, Nexus S is my first without it. Why do you need it so badly? Just connect the phone to the PC, copy the files and that's it.

Just want to comment on this. Example thunderbolt on LTE cant get more than 4.5 hours of battery while on LTE but on 3G it gets about 13-15. Its so bad verizon is giving the bigger extended battery for free. The new 4G technologies LTE and Wimax are battery hogs and until their is optimization, the extra speed will be worthless because your phone will be useless

The Nexus S still leaves me undecided on whether I love it or not. The more I use it, the more I hate:

The styling - the NS seems really fat in places especially the bottom end. I also dislike the amount of plastic above the screen where the earpiece is.

It has started to reboot from time to time.

The calibration on the keyboard seems a bit iffy. I find myself hitting space too often.

The battery life is only good if I use the phone lightly.

Ringtones are too quiet.

GPS is terrible (although I get a sat nav with my new job/car so it's not as much of an issue now).

On the other hand:

Screen is still amazing.

The phone is zippy enough.

Internal storage for apps is great (especially after the N1 where apps to SD was still not enough)

Call quality is good and signal/reception is great.

Android 2.3.3 is nice to have.

However I'm seriously thinking of the Atrix when it comes out in the UK. That qHD screen and enormous battery are very tempting. I'll wait till May!

I find that I'm getting less and less bothered about updates (unless they're to fix problems). I want a phone that works and with a battery which lasts all day with a good amount of use.

I can atest to this. I owned the Atrix for about 3 weeks. I took that POS back.
Same here...I bought the Atrix on launch day in Canada, and took it back a week later. The hardware is great, the software is aweful and slow. If the Atrix didn't have a locked down bootloader and custom ROMs were available, I would have kept it. But as it was, the software just sucked and was annoying to use - Motorola really dumbed down the phone. When I returned it, the staff told me they had 5 other returns that week, half of their Atrix sales were returned, all with the same complaints like me. That says a lot about the lousy implementation of the phone.

I'm now debating the Incredible S and Nexus S and will get my hands on both before deciding.
