Shady Shady Sprint...

So I called up Sprint to voice my frustration with losing my "Premier" status and my promised upgrade in May. The CSR couldn't do anything (which I expected) and I said I just wanted Sprint to know I'm not happy with their recent policy changes. Anyway, right after that call, my phone started acting weird. My girlfriend couldn't call me and sent me an email asking if I had my phone off. It turns out my phone was switched to another number with a 717 area code. (Not even close to my area). I had to spend another half hour on the phone getting my number switched back. The CSR was shocked that I didn't request this and couldn't imagine how it could be done on accident. I think we both knew that the only answer was that the original Sprint CSR messed with my account because of my complaint.

At any rate, I've had just about enough with Sprint, it's off to Verizon soon. First they added the $10 fee to get "true" unlimited data, even though I was already paying for unlimited data before. Then it was they took everyone who got an EVO's one year upgrade away after it was already promised. Now some shady CSR is messing with my account.

so. for adding that $10 on for data. makes you want to switch to verizon.

Verizon -
120.97 (unlimited talk & text. $29.99 for data and navigation)

Sprint

$79(unlimited talk, text, data, $10 add for data. and unlimited navigation plus others. )

For that I will put up with the longer upgrades.

And calling and complaining about it isnt really going to help.

I don't know where you are getting your prices, but you should double check them...

Sprint unlimited everything (with $10 added data) is $109.99

At any rate, I would go with the 450 minutes plan, as that is enough for me (With free nights and weekends, and network to network).

Sprint - 450 minutes, unlimited data/texts $79.99 (including 4G fee)
Verizon - 450 minutes, unlimited data/texts $89.99 (no LTE fee)

Coupled with a work discount, Verizon is equal. They also have better coverage almost universally. Plus the promise of LTE is better than wimax.

I've always went with Sprint because they've treated me well. Well in the past year they've added and upcharge for unlimited data (which I was already paying for), removed a perk they had already offered me, and now it appears a CSR messed with my account because I had the nerve to tell sprint I was unhappy with their latest move.

So yes, I would change to Verizon.

Have fun. But watch your bill like a hawk. When I had verizon, they would slip in every little fee you could think of. Just google verizon mystery fees.

As for who changed your number, it is not actually that hard to do, most carriers can be tricked into doing it with out major problems. Every year at blackhat and defcon, it happens to someone.

But have fun over at verizon.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who always gets great customer service (on the rare occasion I need it) I had the worst experience ever with VZW custromer service. That is why I switched years ago. It wasn't the cost. The Sprint CSR's may not know a whole lot, but at least they are polite, and do as much as they know how to do to help if you have a problem. And, I think you get what you give, too. If you start off being rude and crass and demanding, they are not going to treat you with any respect because you aren't treating them with any. But hey, I'm just one guy. what do I know. Obviously everyone has different experiences.

GL with Verizon, dude. Bring the lube, because they sure won't.

On TOP of all that - if you live/work in a large city (ie Chicago in my case), 3G is basically useless during the day. USELESS! I can barely get a signal, it switches to 1XRTT constantly due to network overload. Switching to 4G works if you can get a signal - which often you cannot (poor building penetration). Jumping to Verizon as well... I am not going to worry about $10-$20 difference per month - heck that is the cost of a couple beers. I want to be able to use data that I am paying for.

You are not just one guy.I've been with Sprint for many years & haven't had any problems.I agree totally with you when you say "you get what you give".I always laugh when someone says they are going to switch to a different carrier because it's cheaper.I also have checked out others but I'm still with Sprint. The others will nickel/dime you to death.

Yes but with Verizon 450 minutes is 450 minutes. With Sprint I have not gone over 100 minutes or so since the added free Mobile to Mobile... any Mobile number not just Sprints. Not to mention no Data Cap ever. Sprint wins every time on this.
And I would just like to say it does suck if your number was truly changed but I would wager it was an accident i.e. a rep typed in the wrong ESN. You are paranoid to think that a CSR just didn't like your complaint and decided to mess with you. Just saying.

Exactly, I've used over 1500 minutes this month bit since 90% of my calls are to other cell phones, I never have overage charges. Ya really gotta consider the any mobile to ANY carrier Sprint gives you is a huge bonus. Nearly the equivalent of unlimited talk for many people. Some people definitely don't look at the whole picture, unfortunately.

I would hope you aren't refering to me. I've looked at the big picture. More people I talk to are on Verizon, by a huge margin in fact. Yes, free mobile to mobile is nice, but what is the point when I wouldn't go over 450 just talking to people that don't have have verizon anyway, they basically are ulimited minutes for me. I work during the day and do all my talking during the nights and weekends. Essentially making all minutes free in any case.

You are absolutely correct that they could change their policies on this any day however given the commercial that has been running non stop for a few weeks now with the Definition of Unlimited, changing that policy would be like a nail in the coffin so changing soon is not likely. As far as your upgrade date changing, I admit that it sucked when they changed this but I happen to be one of the ones who still gets yearly upgrades as I have been a customer for over 10 years. Sprint is trying to get more profitable and it makes zero business sense to let someone get a new subsidized phone every year that doesn't have at least a plan that allows them to still make money. They have to pay the manufacturers for all those phones. Absolutely they do so at a discount but they are in the making money business.
I disagree on the shady though. Sprint is, not without incident but, pretty upfront with the things they do and the policies they have. People were notified months and months ago about the upcoming Premier policy changes. Verizon and AT&T both just change things and hope people don't notice. Having said all that Good luck with Verizon. They are reliable and fast but will take your money even faster.

I get the need to be profitable, but my family plan is $220 a month. I thought that still fits the definition of loyal. But I don't begrudge them their right to make policy changes, it'd just be nice if they met the obligations they've already made for a customer of 5 years and a plan over $200. And after the obligations are met, then phase in the new plan. I felt the need to let Sprint know that their policies are starting to make me consider the competition and I never have before. As a business, I'd like to know what policies are unpopular and push people towards the competition. I was polite in my complaint and even told the CSR I didn't blame him and would answer the survey favorably if I were to get one. He was very nice the entire conversation.

I was referring to the fact that my number was changed during that call as shady. Not Sprints handling of the Premier policy change.

Ahh my bad I thought you were saying the policy change was shady. I would call the number change a bad coincidence. If your family plan is 169.99 simply everything plan before add ons and tax then the main line still gets a one year upgrade
