***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

The big thing for us was the lack of proper Exchange support in 2.1 so our only SF is retired now from business use, replaced with an iPhone4. Simply can't wait any longer and didn't want to root that one. I gave the SF to my wife to replace an aging Eris. Maybe I'll root it one day. It's an awesome piece of hardware and fine for her less demanding use. When it gets 2.2 she'll have Flash but little else new really.

Think of the millions of iphones that will never get flash. However the iphone does play some video streams that Android can't such as webcam streams right in the browser. Another good app to check out is Arcmedia. It plays wmv really well.

I think we all know 2.2 will come. But the length of time it has taken is a new low for Samsung despite their previous failures in this area. Hang in there and enjoy your phone in the mean time.

To add to the rampant speculation, check out this article on daily tech.
DailyTech - Report: Google Wants More Control of Android to Stop Fragmentation

Specifically this line:
Google has also gotten involved with an upcoming Android phone from Verizon that incorporates rival Microsoft's Bing search engine, holding up its release.

Interesting. Obviously the Fascinate is not an "upcoming Android phone" but an interesting statement none the less.

What does it mean? Absolutely nothing. About the same as most of the posts in this thread.

Am I incorrect to think that this cracking down would only be on companies trying to make deals such as Samsung and Microsoft [the Bing issue] and not hindering the creative delevopment of the user community? I mean since Google is the sole creator and owner of Android, can't it just say what can and can not be added to the phone without with holding source code and such from the user community. We aren't big business selling the phones, we are the consumer and bought the phone so we should be allowed to continue editing the software as we like...correct me if im wrong, but i assume that this is a good thing. All phones will come out to the consumer the same, then its up the the phone owner what he wants to do to it from there...

Last night I typed, in Microsoft Word, an 1800 character complaint letter and sent it to Samsung demanding a "rough" date as to when they will roll out the update. I received an answer this morning from their tech department and it was a vague computer generated reply which included no dates. As much as I love Samsung's phones, as a consumer, I'm pissed. Why should I pay the same data fee when others get more, such as flash? Sadly, HTC will get my business next time.

I have rooted before (Droid 1) but I feel that it shouldn't be MY job to jailbreak my phone for the latest technology; it should be the manufacturers responsibility.

I sympathize with you, but you're going to miss out on some state of the art stuff.

I'd remind you that the burden of proof lies with those making a claim. I'm simply pointing out the fact that all those so certain that Froyo is on the way are making that claim without a single shred of evidence.

Despite being a little late to the party on this particular back-and-forth, I'd just like to point out that you have stated as unequivocal fact that the Fascinate is not getting an official 2.2 release:

The fact is the Samsung Fascinate is -not- going to be upgraded to 2.2. Period.

Honestly, I have to agree with the sentiment that your posts (especially that first one) come across as quite arrogant.

Haven't been on the forums in a while, I still can't believe it's been over 6 months since this thread was created...and what have we to show for it?

As much as I like the phone this will be the last Samsung product I ever buy, same with my wife. Their shoddy support has cost them two customers.

For all of the people who keep telling me that updates don't matter, people don't have a clue, I need look no further than stories like yours to see the proof in how carrier+makers just are not getting it.

Ok. Well, this thing about leaving Samsung reminds me of when I broke up with Brenda in the eighth grade. She started looking prettier and prettier every day I saw her after that. ;)

Um... er.. um... No, wait,

uhh... err...

:D

So I was out of town for a few days, my wife got frustrated with her Fascinate and the GPS and bluetooth not working threw it up on craigslist traded a Pre 2 and $250 cash for it and said it was the best decision she has ever made.

I've played with it a little and I can see what she likes about it. Can't say I'm ready to make the switch by any means but Samsung has managed to drive one customer from android completely.

Possibly, but there are plenty of great manufacturers out there, I doubt skipping out on Sammy will kill me.

Need I remind you that a bunch of us said the SAME THING with HTC and the Eris a while back?

Not trying to defend Samsung. I'm mad too. Just want to put it in perspective. Like I've pointed out before, I'm hoping LG releases a great Verizon android phone so I can skip on HTC because of the Eris, Samsung because of the Fascinate, and Motorola for being a disgrace to the Open Handset Alliance and the "open way of Android" with their stupid worthless encrypted bootloaders.
