Samsung Fascinate Lounge

Alright, so I'd been having issues with my phone for a while and finally gave up and called Verizon. They overnighted me a replacement and thus far it's working much better in every way except one. I have the old style Android Market installed and I cannot get it to update to the newer version. I went to XDA and downloaded the 2.2.6 APK but when I try installing it through Astro it says "could not open as APK file."

Any ideas?

Did you download via your phone? If so, try downloading from a computer and moving it over to the SD card. If you did already download it from your computer and try again (obviously, I'm thinking you have a bad download).

Okay...Well...I bought a Galaxy Tab last night online at Tiger Direct for $350. Needed something to replace my Archos 70 as I just can't stand the 256MB of RAM. You can't hack that and even if you could, the development for the Archos Gen 8 devices is crawling...it's pathetic.

That's something "fascinatistic" isn't it...? Just kind of the same thing with a bigger screen, front facing camera, and well...2.2 from Samsung of course LOL

Bought my wife an iPad too . I know it's a little taboo...but it's the right device for her (but she hasn't opened it yet... anniversary gift :)). Seriously...Bejeweled 2 with Blitz sold me on a tablet. Crazy!

I've been resistant to tablets for awhile. Then I played with one for a few minutes this weekend and right afterwords went onto my GF's laptop. I can see the niche market for them. Bridging the gap I suppose.

3 levels of mobility. Laptops, Tablets, & Smartphones.

Didn't seem necessary to me either...but when I got my Archos tablet to play around with...I'm sold on the idea. Scary thing is that I am also starting to justify the higher priced ones. But I'm not quite ready to spend $600+ yet.

I'm not really liking the Zoom. I've played with it a few times in the stores and I don't know what it is...but I just don't like it. My wife's iPad is nice for sure...but I don't really care for the form factor (or the OS of course :)).

I keep getting drawn back to the 7" tablets and I think that works well. Maybe a 8" or 9" tablet will hit the sweet spot, but 7" is big enough and 10" is too big IMO.

The one thing that surprises me is that having a 4"+ phone is even more important to me having a tablet. You get used to the bigger screens that the tablets offer and I'm thinking a 3.5" screen (or smaller) just wouldn't cut it...not that it ever did.

Yeah once used to the Fascinate's 4" I know I wont likely go smaller. Having handled the Tbolt and weight and thickness side seeing that it is the same length and width with a bigger screen I confident a 4.3" screen will be a nice upgrade for me, even 4.5" I think is do-able as long as the footprint doesnt get much bigger.
My rule always is what will your new gadget do your old was doesn't. Usually I upgrade infrequently enough that my new gadget is a quantum leap up from my previous. So with digital cameras, tv's computers [and/or pc components], you name it my new one is always spec'd out as a true upgrade. Its the whole reason Im probably going to be riding out the Fascinate all year long. Nothing coming out this summer to me really seems like a quantum leap to me a dual core phone with the same screen res like the sgs2 is still kinda meh. Even a qHD screen seems like a mini step rather than a leap. Im just not one of those guys who makes incremental upgrades I suppose. Its why there's a real chance it will be 2012 before I leave the SF for a quad core, 1280x720 screen, 4G, 2GB ram, microsdxc phone. Now that'd be an upgrade to me :D

Yup, I gots Froyo this morning, enjoying it quite a bit.

Back to tablets though, I still think a rooted NookColor is the best bang for the buck tablet right now (although a $350 Galaxy Tab isn't bad, although apparently Sprint has theirs for $250 right now). That said, I got to play with my buddy's wife's iPad 2 and was absolutely wowed by how slick the things was. I too know it's forbidden fruit but I want one. No way I'm spending that kind of money on a toy though.
