I won't even go there on forums anymore. I have too many iPhone owning friends and even (yes, embarrassing) family that there's just too much material and too many funny and scary stories.

I lost count on the number of arguments/debates I've had over what the 4 means for the Evo 4G versus the iPhone 4.

Chap, you must share at least 2 stories...lol

Well, in that case, I don't know how you know that applies.

For people in the market for smartphone that are not making impulse purchases, it doesn't take them long to go from uninformed to informed.

And as this thread is discussing people upgrading their existing Android phones, many with Evos such as yourself, everyone here does know it exists.

Case in point:
Go to the Sprint website. Boom. You are greeted by the EVO 3D ad.
Watch TV (you are bound to see the EVO ad, or the Shift ad, and I am sure the 3D ad will replace it soon).

If the 3D is going to be LTE/WiMax compatible, the phone will have to carry a sim card.Don't hold your breath about the phone having the ability to support LTE.

There already is a GSM SIM card version announced for France. If they fit the sim slot on there I am sure they can fit it on our current version. Now, I am not saying this is probable, just saying I wouldn't rule it out under those grounds. The slot could easily be under the battery.

Not feasible because it makes too much sense. Glad they got a clue about increasing the size of the battery. For an EVO, I would rather have a larger battery than more storage space any day. Not to say HTC can't even both of those out.

The Bolt is using more power-efficient chips, so the battery size actually probably evens out or exceeds what the Evo can do, when set up properly, and Verizon tends to insist on phones have more memory as a differentiator.

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the battery of the Thunderbolt like the EVO had complaints. But people have to set up the phone properly I guess. Verizon did have the 32gb storage cards for sale upon launching the Droid X. I guess having those cards in the Thunderbolt makes sense. Feels like you are getting a better deal than buying an iPhone.

LTE won't be widely deployed within the next 12 months, and certainly WiMax will still exist as it does for the next 24, so.. it doesn't matter. The next phone after the 3D will support LTE as one of it's big things.

Got my 4G on launch day, plan on doing the same for the 3D. I have absolutely 0 interest in the 3D capabilities of this phone but the rest of it is a beast. No phone can even come close to matching it's power. One thing that worries me is the news from kmobs (CM/Team Douche member) that the new crop of HTC's will have encrypted (no, not signed like the tbolt) bootloaders. In that case I will return it.

Also, to all of you expecting to grab a sys dump of the 3D and have a new ROM for our 4G's, it won't be that easy. qHD resolution means they will have to do sufficient work to downsize the images for 800x480.

i never said that manufacturers just blindly throw a product out to the public without having a target market.. what i said is that i dont think social class is the determaning factor.. i think that age group, gender, hobbies, and interests are the key focus when making a phone.. for example a phone like the motorola cliq with its motoblur heavy integration into social networking, teenagers were obviously the target there.. i dont think their going to cater to one social class, when these phones are affordable items and basically have become a necessity (not smart phones.. cell phones in general)

Far more difficult ports have been done. It'll happen. Probably within a week or two of the 3D being released.

the crazy thing about the anual upgrades is you can just pay the $200 to get this phone and then sell it on ebay for 4-500 all day long and then go back to your evo 4g and pocket the 2-300. minimal effort and you you could still get another phone in june 2012 when a big leap forward phone is likely to come out
this 3d looks kinda cool, but it's a half step at best.

The next big step will be for the phone to use the Qualcomm 8960 (the 3D has an 8660) - a big step up in every regard. However - that'll probably be 2012 before we see those...

When I do upgrade, my Evo will serve as an additional internet appliance via wifi around the house (probably for the HTPC and RemoteDroid, at the very minimum). Much as I'd like the found money - the idea of actually parting with my Evo just doesn't sit well with me. For me, it would be like giving up a favorite pet - as in, not gonna happen. :)

While I'm looking forward to the 3D - it's really not something I expect to grow on me like my Evo has.

I've seen plenty of down/up sized ports but they always have gfx glitches. Some images might be scalable .9's but the ones that aren't need manual editing or replacing and there is a few thousand files to edit.

Also look at the ports we got awhile back from the Desire Z, they were the same resolution so no editing had to be done but look how long it took for them to get everything working. Almost 2 months. Evo 3D will have a even newer version of Sense probably requiring lots of kernel differences from the 4G, that stuff can take a long time to fix.

I'm all for having the newest firmware on my 4G even though I'm gonna have the 3D, but it takes a lot more work and time then your giving.

i love the Evo because of everything it brings, although I have realized, i text WAY TOOOOO much to not have a physical kb, i have swype and all that stufff, i kind of wish the 3D had a slide version coming out with a kb. then i would def upgrade but my next phone might just be one that has an actual kb

That's interesting because I text a lot also, especially because of my job and having little time to talk to people during the day. I used to be a diehard physical qwerty guy, but with the EVO, I don't think I'm ever going to want a thicker phone ever again. On certain things, I sometimes wish I had a physical qwerty, but for the most part I've been able to function just as efficiently with the EVO and Swype as I did when I had the Mogul and Touch pro.

HTC's is locked, but unlike Motorola it's not encrypted. I unlocked mine within weeks of buying the Evo, 2 days after launch.

They went from locked to signed with the Thunderbolt and there has been much rumor that they will start encrypting them for the next round of phones (3D, Sensation). I hope they don't.
