Help 2.1 OTA Deleted clock and weather widget

After updating to the 2.1 ota update my entire clock and weather widget is gone. I've read posts of people having the weather app force close or the clock not displaying the right city but I haven't found one where the entire widget is gone. After looking in the widgets folder the only clock widget i have is an analog clock.

I thought one of the new cool features was the weather floating across the screen and now i dont even have a clock! Is there anywhere I can download the HTC stock clock/weather app? I know there is a million clock apps and weather apps but I actually want the stock one.

Help? I dont want to take the phone to Verizon because all I ever deal with is incompetent people there and I'd prefer fixing this on my own if possible.

Thanks!

I had the same problem - missing widgets seems to be a common glitch with the update. I restored mine by doing a factory reset, just be sure to backup your data/take note of your applications, etc., and your SD card data won't be erased so that stuff should be fine. This route definitely isn't convenient, but it does fix the problems.

But what if you don't want to do that? If I do a factory rest it'll take me back to 1.5 - then I'll have to go through all the updates to get back to 2.1

Anyone have any other suggestions?

No, actually a factory reset does not take you back to 1.5 - it basically just wipes all of the custom apps and data off of the current software (running 2.1) and resets the phone as if it was turned on fresh, but does not roll back the OTA updates.

However, if that widget is missing from a homescreen, you can long-press where you want it to go (or press the "+" on the bottom-right), choose HTC widgets, choose the clock widget, and then scroll to (I think) the fourth clock widget (it will be obvious when you see it) to get the standard clock/weather widget on a home screen.

doogald thanks for the reply.

I can't add the widget back to my home screen because it's no longer appearing in the list of HTC widgets (it's been deleted from the phone - as described above). Or I suppose possibly it hasn't - maybe it's just no longer on that list. When I go to the full list of Applications maybe it's there, but if so I don't know what it is called.

But I am interested that you say a factory reset won't take the phone back to 1.5. Are you absolutely certain of this? Has anyone ever tried it on a phone that was originally on 1.5, then upgraded to 2.1? I've already factory reset the phone a couple of times (before I went to 2.1) & from that experience it just feels likely that it would genuinely be reset to how it was when I first got the phone. Any comments from someone who has done this?

Thanks, Chris

I am absolutely 100% sure. I have actually done this myself - I bought my phone in December 2009, received the OTA update in May 2010, and did a factory reset shortly after, so that I could build 2.1 from scratch rather than carry the deadweight of data that I had built up in 1.5.

The factory reset does not undo OTAs. The OTA replaces all of the 1.5 system files with 2.1 versions and is not reversible. You will definitely have 2.1 with the March OTA when you are done.

It's strange that the HTC widgets get removed, though. I wonder how that happens?
