List your biggest complaints about Thunderbolt

I'm sure battery life is an issue for many people, also no skype video chat. Is there anything else you don't like about this phone? I'm on the fence on this phone right now, and wanted to hear out people's complaints on this phone before i pull the trigger.

No Skype video chat??!! Why the heck not??? What is the camera in the front for?? OK. I just arrived here, but really, I thought the camera was for skype(or whatever).

Because Skype doesn't have their app ready yet. There are other video chat apps out there. However Skype was suppose to be available at launch, Skype didn't have the app ready on time and still doesn't.

You will love this phone people just expect unrealistic things from phones. The battery life isnt that bad, but its not great either. Other than that I love the phone and once 4g is in my area I will love it that much more.

I love the phone as well. But battery life is horrible. You may find th 4G, as great as it is will effect your battery. Im in the middle of a big 4g area and my phone is always on 4G. I read somewhere ta 4G is a battery hog and I believe its true. My phone when on WIFI can lasts all day. 4G....not so good. Ive seen the battery drop 50% just sitting on the coffee table after 8 hours. My buddies EVO has a setting for using 3G or 4G. He has told me that he runs on 3G most of the time cause th battery life sucks on his as well when using 4G. I wish we could switch it to 3G when we wanted to.

Someone should edit the OP to list what people's legit complaints are maybe 2 sections, Hardware and software, and what items have been resolved or have suggested solutions.

In no particular order

  • Charger location in respect to the kickstand
  • Hidden LED notifier
  • location of the volume rocker - I'm constantly hitting volume up or down the way I hold my phone - I'm prolly just doing it wrong.
  • Lack of physical mute button and the need to unlock the screen to mute the phone.
  • Lack of hardware buttons - at least 1 would be nice considering the 'mushiness' or low profile of the power button (i've returned 1 TB for another issue and the 2nd power button was definitely lower than the 1st)
  • Bloatware - rooted and fixed.
  • Flakiness of some of the sense widgets/apps. **
  • 6 gigs of missing space. *
  • Mic is unusable for phone calls when regular earphones are plugged in
  • Media speaker sounds very Tinny when the kickstand is open
Overall none of these issues would keep me from using the phone. Also I specifically didnt mention battery life - while it would be nice to be longer, the truth is the battery lasts as long as it can based on usage, so mileage will vary. I'll be happy when a aesthetically pleasing and effective inductive charger comes out to use while at work where I'm constant picking up and putting down the phone.

And since theres cons up there how about some pros:

  • Built in kickstand
  • Dual flash
  • Storage space
  • Speed
  • Photo/video quality
  • HTC's Flashlight - this totally was a pleasant surprise - for those that dont know it turns on the dual LED flash instead of using the screen. More efficient on the battery and much brighter.

*I'm not even close to using this space but at some point I expect I will. Removing the vzw bloat has not found this missing space.

** I specifically wanted to use the sense UI because of the idea of integrating all communication / contacts over various platforms. I'd seen it on friend's EVO's and loved it. Saddly now that I'm using it, I can see there is definitely room for intuitive improvements. Also some of the widgets aren't that great at getting data updated at the set intervals and the overal single utility of much of the apps/widgets. So much for combining things.

In terms of the space issue, the word from people who have talked to VZW support is that the space is a file system set up error and will be able to be fixed with an OTA update (probably when they release Gingerbread this summer). As far as Sense goes, this is a very new version of Sense. In fact I believe the TB is the first phone that has Sense 2.0, so there are going to be bugs, I honestly feel that this will also be fixed when the next OTA is released.

(oh and BTW since you mentioned you are rooted, the ROM devs will have both of those issues fixed long before the OTA is pushed. :) )

When I take a step into my law school's main hall, my mobile network connection cuts out. Sometimes I get 1x but never 3G or 4G. HTC Incredible and Verizon iPhone all get perfect 3G signal all through this building. That wouldn't be the end of the world, because I just log on to wireless, but it screws up my 3g/4g radio so when i leave the building, even after turning my wireless radio off, it will not connect to 3g/4g, still only 1x. sometimes turning my phone off and on solves this problem, but not always.

love love love this phone when it works. but jeez louise I can't deal with the network not working 75% or more of the time.

Returning it today, not sure what I'm going to get instead.

Try a different unit first. If that doesn't work, wait for another phone. Maybe the Incredible 2 or the Galaxy S 2

If you dont care to root or mod, wait for the Droid Bionic.

Reliability/Build Quality-

First bolt was returned due to screen issues(light leak, bottom buttons stopped lighting up).
Second bolt has network issues. I'm smack dab in the middle of 4G area, but no 4G on the phone. I have limited 3G and a smattering of 1x. I've factory reset, battery pulled and scoured the forums for a fix, but so far...nada.

Maybe 3rd bolt is a charm? :)

**edit** Had 4G at work until Monday, now it's gone.

The only thing I dislike about this phone after using it for 2 weeks (other than the overabundance of bloatware) is the placement of the charger. It is incredibly awkward to use when plugged in. Tried texting while plugged in and I wasn't really sure how to hold it. Not to mention what has already been pointed out a thousand times - can't charge and use kickstand in landscape mode.
Regardless of this annoying issue, I'm pretty happy with this phone. :)
