When i do a backup before i switch roms, should i backup everything or just the apps i want to have backed up? like the system files and htc stuff included when i do it? -Dont want to flash a new rom then restore some stuff that would slow it down ^^(new rom supposedly faster)

Just backup apps and their data. You can backup system data if you want, but DON'T restore the system data. Only restore apps + data. The option I use under batch restore is "Restore Missing Apps and Data" and then I uncheck apps I don't want restored.

You can restore some of the system data, the rule with this is that you should only restore the system data with Green text. The system data in green text is the system data that should remain consistant across roms (stuff like SMS, MMS, calendar entries, bookmarks, wifi settings, your homescreen layout, etc.)

As long as you only restore the green system data you should be good.

this is true for now, since we dont have AOSP roms yet. once we do,you will prolly be better off only restoring apps+data. especially if youre going from 2.2 sense to 2.3 AOSP(cm7 :D)
