The good, the bad and the ugly!

No good or bad, it'll mostly be the ugly side of the O2x :p
All the good stuff is mentioned in reviews :D and they are true BUT:

All is great and good - fast phone, minimal lagging in UI (mostly on startup and on random scans from the antivirus (F-secure preloaded)), but after tinkering with it for a while, it got really hot!
Like it was some computer being OC'ed without proper cooling >_< I've never tried that on a phone - is that normal :S ? Couldn't the battery take damage of that, considering heat is the worst thing Li-Batteries know?

Another thing that has been annoying me is the signal/antenna! My previous phone was a Nokia n900, and through Maemo OS, I could easily switch between 2G only to 3G only or both 2G/3G. I know it takes a little time for it to make the switch, but sometimes on the LG I have to reboot the phone to get a signal!!!
Could it have something to do with the OS (2.2) and now that they've promised 2.3, it might be better?
I haven't called the support yet, cause they'd probably have me send back the unit and change it! >_>
Anyone else having such problems, or is it a faulty unit? :p

The phone? Well, here in Denmark, yes. CallMe (carrier) got about 80 of these, and I was on the preorder list :) I don't hope they gave me a prototype :p The box seems to be retail, and it also got the HDMI cable and headset, which did not come in the pre-release units.

I haven't seen a retail box with the HDMI cable included yet, so you just might have a pre-production unit, those seem to be some faults that not many other people are experiencing.

I've seen preproduction boxes, and this is not like it. A friend of mine also got the O2x from another carrier, and he also got an HDMI-cable. Plus, there is no headset with pre-production (as far as I've seen)

Talked with a support guy earlier today, he says that it can take a couple of minutes, but not more, for the signal to go from 2G to 3G, when changing the settings.
Heat problem not yet solved. Until now, it's only been when playing tegra2 supported games (Dungeon Defender).

Overall I'm really enjoying the phone - it's been a great upgrade from the n900, even though I miss the FM-transmitter ;)
But one thing I'm hating about this phone: Too many games and not much time! :D

Any other question, just shoot!
(uploading a picture of the box and content)...

The pre-production box I've seen (same goes for nearly all "unboxing" vids on youtube)
YouTube - LG Optimus 2X (Tegra 2) unboxing

My box:

Another retail box:

And the content in his box seems to be the same as I've got: HDMI, Micro-USB->USB, wall charger, headset ..

As for heat, I have the Motorola Droid X (since last July), and yes while playing games it can get VERY hot!!! But it hasn't seemed to effect battery life so far, and I've had it for 3 quarters of a year now, so I'd say it's a non-issue.

I'm seriously considering jumping to T-Mobile to get the US version of this phone in a few weeks. There has been a shit storm brewing around Verizon, and I'm ready to get out while the gettin's good. This looks like a great device, I'd really like to get the Optimus 3D, but it's going to AT&T. And jumping from Verizon to AT&T is like jumping from the pot into the fire.

So G2X (as it's being badged over here) looks to be my next device unless T-Mo springs something else out there on us in the next few weeks (doubt it). I'm really excited about having an unlocked bootloader! Have you guys heard much about custom ROMs coming out yet? I'd heard that CM7 could be just around the corner.... oh how I want a true Cyanogen mod on my phone!!!

I've got a Call me 2x also and honestly, I think it is a piece of crap.

I can no longer play video files that I have recorded, I am crapping around trying to get the smartshare to work with my LG DNLA TV, the battery life is just rubbish, I hav3 a 32gb Kingston Micro SDHC that sometimes appears and sometimes does not, honestly what a piece of junk.

I am very close to dumping the unit on someone else and buying an iPhone 4 as the thing is just rank.
:( This is my second Android unit and it has killed any faith I had in Android, as the first unit was utter rubbish also.

Sad to hear that you've had such a bad experience with android and O2X, cause for me it's pretty much the opposite!
Loving android the more I learn about it (recently hidden menu ;) ) and I can't stand an OS (read iOS) where I'm not in control!!!

Back to your phone, you're in Denmark, we've got the good laws behind us! I've worked in an electronic repair shop before, and as long as you are experiencing the problem, you can make them give you a new device or switch to another (if you're really good u can get your money back but its the O2x!! ;) )

You're still in the first month after the purchase, so they will just give you a new piece if you send to rep! Call their workshop and ask for a technician - their phone-guys are not the brightest (or at least the one i talked to)!

Well naturally you have the right to choose which ever phone suits you best. However I must warn you, with the flood of iPhone users making it to this side of the pond is probably going to make for a strong current to fight against while trying to make your way to the other side.

So me hopes you're a good swimmer!

hah... honestly, nothing like my experience AT ALL.

The only thing I can suggest is you have a dodgy unit.

The only concern I have so far, is that some stuff has to be tinkered with to work flawlessly.

Had to fix my GPS (gps.conf missing, APNs not configured correctly and greyed out so you couldn't change them)

and had to freeze the CarHome app to get decent battery life.

According to Paul @ MoDaCo LG screwed up pretty badly on some software topics.

I love tinkering with it, but it takes some of the sparkles if you have to tinker with a factory new phone to get it to work as expected.

Can't wait for the gingerbread update.

Here's my side of things:

The Good:
  • The phone is fast, there's no denying that, but maybe it's just because I'm coming from a second gen iPod Touch, so I've got nothing to compare app loading speed against, but I'm very happy with the app loading speed and transitions between home screens.
  • The phone also looks amazing, the back cover is very thin and feels cheap when off the phone itself, but when supported by the internals of the phone it feels solid and very comfortable in the hands, I really like the soft touch of the plastic as well. The tapered edge glass is also a nice feature and feels much nicer than non tapered glass when your fingers slide over it.
  • I also really like the music player that LG have supplied with the phone, when in landscape mode the player looks really nice and has wowed my family who are all apple fans, It's very easy to navigate either artists or albums or individual songs and the motion when scrolling through the songs is very fluid.
  • Another thing I noticed is that the screen is very responsive, just as responsive as any Apple product and I have yet to have non-responsiveness in the screen. The screen also looks very bright and crisp, the colours are better than the iPhone 4's screen colours IMO, but the resolution isn't, but the difference in resolution is not noticeable unless you squint very far in. Very very pleased with the screen.

The Bad:

  • Some things can make the phone go very slow, on my very first day of owning the phone I had the camera app force close on me, then everything went very slow until I restarted the phone.
  • The battery life out of the box is also not that great, but after freezing the car home app and F-Secure I found my battery life to be much better, but it still depletes rather quickly when playing games. If you are wondering whether the phone can make it through a full working day that answer is yes, but with medium to heave use don't expect to go through a whole day on one charge.
  • The phone comes with no external SD card, but that was ok for me since I'd already ordered a 32GB SD card thanks to people on this forum informing me there was no external SD card in the slot. If my memory is correct, I think the internal SD card has 5.51GB free when you get the phone and the internal phone memory has 1.28GB free at the moment. So If you have a large media library is is definitely a good idea to invest in an SD card.

The ugly:
  • I have yet to see anything noticeably ugly on the phone except for the lockscreen and the camera app, but I have yet to see all the apps I have installed, so I might update this in the future If I come across anything particularly ugly.
