Help Is the volume too low hearing someone on the DHD?

And while I'm at it I'm definitely not impressed by the touch screen, again the two year old Nokia has a much better a more positive and responsive screen than the HD.
A more positive and responsive screen on Nokia? You're kidding me right! Nokia uses a resistive touchscreen and HTC uses a capacitive touchscreen. Any given day, the capacitive touchscreen is always more responsive. Always.

Btw, some notes: You maybe tapping too hard on the screen. The technologies are different so you must change the way you use them too when you change between them.

Capacitive touch screens only need a light touch from your finger, and you don't need to apply any pressure at all, but you can't use styluses or thick gloves/mittens on them (except those special capacitive stylus).

Resistive touch screens can be used with any kind of object even your regular pencil or mittens, but you need to apply some pressure on the screen before the touch is registered. (This is much less responsive than a capacitive screen and irritates the hell out of me.)

I've just got a Desire HD and the sound from the external speaker sucks. I've got a 50p radio that sounds better than this thing. I'm especially annoyed as the publicity made much of the the great sound that it could produce. The HD is a replacement for my Nokia 5800 music express, (a victim of being run over by a taxi) and the sound is hugely inferior to that. Not only that I have read quite extensively about this phone and its only now that when I buy it I find this problem, none of the many reviews I read mentioned anything about it. Mind you one review used a

Well i too have contacted htc about the ridicoulous volume on this phone so awaiting reply. i'm also now convinced that this is a software problem because i got the zedge app today which is basically free ringtones and wallpapers. out of curiosty i searched the ringtones and found one called loudest ringtone so downloaded it and low and behold the speaker suddenly kicked out some right sound i was amazed!!!! don't get me wrong the ringtone was nothing special and was quite annoying but it was LOUD which proves to me the speaker is capable of more than what its giving us. so this amazing phone is obviously being restricted somehow but all the apps i've paid for haven't helped. come on htc its now obvious this fault can be fixed. spend more time fixing this problem then concentrating on your next release :(

Careful there buddy, you may burn your speakers out. Did you play the ringtone after using and exiting FM Radio? How about playing it after using (and exiting) FM Radio followed by playing a video in the Gallery in Dolby or SRS mode? Surely the second time must be much louder.

I was kind of asking you to try doing it. Try doing the following, I mean:

Did you try increasing the media volume after you plugged in earphones and turned on radio? And I hope you know the radio broadcast plays on the earphones, not the loudspeaker.

Anyway after you exit from Radio (by pressing the on-screen power button or by unplugging earphone), test the ringer volume*. Then go into the Videos app and play a video in either Dolby or SRS mode. Then exit out of Videos app and test the ringer volume again. Is there a difference?

* To test Ringer volume, go to Settings > Sound Settings > Volume > Ringtone (move that slider to max).

@ADTC i ended up taking the phone back to shop they did a default factory restore and the radio corrected itself. got a reply from htc who advised me to use a loud ringtone (obviously!!!) and to watch out on the there website for possible software update regards low volume :)
Please test the speaker volume for ringtone (as directed in my previous reply) before and after running (and exiting) FM Radio. I want to know whether hard resetting (factory restore) can permanently solve the problem. Please post your test results.

Not really the best thread to ask in mate.
Try re-posting in tips and tricks.
As for your question I am not sure but it depends really how you listen to the music. Like with headphones or on full volume, etc.

Bye the way I found that if I play music in winamp after using FM radio will also solve the quiet sound issue.

I have 2 DHD in the family I just purchased and I am upset at the volume issue. If they don't have a fix, which I see by these threads, is a long time coming, then i guess they are going back. If you can't hear it, you can't answer it, let alone listen to some music or video. Disappointed with HTC's attitude about having such a demand for the phone, they haven't had time to solve this issue. It would seem to me that they would fix them before shipping so less people would complain.

I recently contacted HTC regarding this problem and they said this:
Dear ADTC, This issue is confirmed and we are trying to collect customer data to feed back to tech department. Regards, HTC
Let's hope they do something about this soon.
Meanwhile, what you can do is, once you've turned off FM Radio, you can go to your Videos and play a video in Dolby or SRS mode. That will immediately correct the problem (no need to restart phone).

Good News Folks! HTC has just rolled out an update that fixes this issue permanently! I got it over-the-air today about 4-5 hours ago.

After you install this update, your Android version will be upgraded to 2.2.1 and the issue of volume going low after using FM Radio will be permanently fixed. You will never have this issue again!

To check for updates, go to Settings > About phone > System software updates, press the "Check now" button at the bottom.

Yes sucking... when you play music on the external speaker it does not go very loud at all even if you have it at max.
You can't expect your phone to sound like a portable hi-fi system. If you want nice loud music, carry a boom box around. Lol. iPhone's loudspeaker sucks even more. HTC is much better. One call on speakerphone can prove it.
